TS,if you're not in a rush i suggest you be friends with google and read up on reviews.it's better to get some knowledge rather then listen blindly to what other people say.i mean the recommendations are solid but some reading up is better as you would know what kind of parts you really want and won't get conned as easily also. my dua sen lah.

Very true. If u know nothing about pc it is for sure u'll be conned easily by the sellers since u'll take whatever sh*t they throw at u, especially those who want to get rid of their 'no good stock'. U say u can't even check the specs of ur current system, c'mon! If they throw inferior hardware at u then u wont even be able to know it! The simple way is to check it under "Start>Control Panel>System".

I too, have nil knowledge on desktop stuff but have read up many stuffs recently before I start my first built. It is the hard earned money matters afterall.

@youloong118 and @LYNsucks, rather than complain about others and spam in this thread, perhaps you can do better by giving some recommendations for RM1500 budget? wink.gif

@waikit, here is another one I came up with...

Intel Core 2 Duo E5300 = 279
GigaByte GA-G31M-ES2L mainboard = 175
4GB Kingston DDR2-800 Value RAM (2 x 2GB) = 168
Sapphire HD4830 512MB GDDR3 = 380
Lite-On SATA DVDRW = 69
Seagate / Western Digital 320GB SATA HDD = 155
AOpen ATX casing without PSU = 59 (from Compuzone)
Vantec ION2+ 500W PSU = 219 (from Startec price list)

Total: RM1504

A bit over RM1500, no biggie.. biggrin.gif Slightly faster graphics card, downgraded the processor a bit (by 100MHz).. icon_rolleyes.gif

No, I'm not complaining or anything. It's just that he should at least have a lil bit of knowledge on this stuff before buying. What if some of the components u suggest isnt available for sale? That'll render him helpless. If he have some idea then he can at least choose other components flexibly which r more or less the same if the said item is outta stock. Not to forget some shop might even con "oh bro i tell u this n that is not good bla bla bla instead i suggest u to pick bla bla item..."

It is dangerous since he don even know how to check the specs. I don suggest any since those suggested by u already seems quite fine.

Why worry about that? As long as he sticks to the specifications and/or gets similar parts at almost the same price, that would be fine.. TS can always hunt for those parts anyway, not necessarily have to buy from a single shop... And many of these parts are very common, so why worry? Only parts that are considered tricky is the graphics card.. such as the 9600GT one (many sellers selling this higher than RM400). wink.gif

That's why always check on the spot at the shop there, you can ask them to open up the casing so that you can inspect the internal components are correct. Its the shop obligation to let the customer know if they have changed any parts inside due to no stock. Always check and see that you have bought the correct stuff. wink.gif

Why do some people like to buy things on spot if they dont have any knowledge whatsoever on what they want to purchase? If the seller recommend u a card, try checking via internet to check if the card is any good. Try comparing prices also, like checking through the lowyat's pc price list to make sure that the price relatively close to expected. Could be that ur friend just wanted low budget pc so they decided to recommend what's best but as cheap as possible, so you cannot really blame em.

Same. Cause a good gaming rig doesnt come cheap at the end of the day. And honestly RM1500 can probably only help left4dead at highest setting. For the rest, u may need to settle for medium setting and such. As long ur rig can play starcraft 2 and diablo 3 should be enough lol.
