Cheap so I guess designer furniture is out of the question... why don't you try IKEA tongue.gif everything there is contemporary.

Otherwise Lorenzo and Harvey Norman comes to mind... altho my choice would be Macy I esp like Macy's sofa's and fabric choice thumbup.gif

Hi,

Wife and I did it ourselves....

No cash to use an ID. May I suggest the following:

1. Read tons of interior / home decor magazines. To save cost, just browse through the bookstores....

2. Obviously, deciding on a theme is especially crucial. For our case, we decided on a minimalisitic theme with earthern colours. Recommend "Barang-Barang" - which is a store which has a variety of earthern coloured furniture if u r interested. They have a store in Ikano power center. A bit on the pricey side - but it's not exorbitantly priced. Personally, I don't favour Ikea - IMHO opinion, their furniture is a bit passe and commercialized. It's just too common for my liking.

3. Please do not underestimate lighting, curtains and deco items like Art. Art pieces here are cut-throat. We normally buy ours whenever we travel overseas.

Cheers.

the key to contemporary style is to make it "simple, light and natural colour" Ikea stuffs are too funky and strong in colour IMO.

brotherhood,

Do you have any kids or plan to have children?? If yes, avoid all expensive and breakable furniture. Forget decoration too. No glass furniture and so on. A well decorated house is a bad place for children to play in.

I have minimal furniture in my house. Whatever that I have are solid wood Merbau chair, table, and so on with Italian marble top. They can stand the abuse by children aka scratch and dent. They retained their value because the wood itself is worth a lot of money.

I prefer a children friendly house than a house that is like a museum. Too many breakable stuff.
