 Iphone 2g shut down itself, Why?

Here's the case.I bought a second hand iPhone 2g.It came to me with 2.1 firmware.
I update using QuickPwn to 2.2,unlock,jailbreak & install stuff.Running great for a month.
Then it start shutting down itself,to turn it on again i gotta push the home & sleep button for 15 second or so.
I thought it was something i install so i restore a clean 2.2.But still the same. sad.gif

Just today i've updated to 2.2.1,still the same.It shut down itself.
I havent QuickPwn it yet so its the original untouch 2.2.1 update.

What happen is,it is still in the slide for emergency screen.You know the one where there's picture of iTunes & a usb cable.
If i just left it on the computer it doesnt shut down.But if i push the sleep button when not connected to pc or charger & left it there maybe for 30 second,it die or shut down.Have to push home & sleep again.
Pushing the on/sleep button only wont do anything. sad.gif
Does this have something to do with the battery?

The question is why it happen & how to solve it.Anybody have this problem?
And also how to know if the battery is still in good condition or need to be replace.

I think i already done that.Now im back to 2.2 & have unlock,jailbreak.
Same thing still occur.It dont shut down by itself if connected to pc/charger but if no pc/charger connected it will shut down by itself.
Even if the battery is full.

What exactly you ment by enter the DFU mode first..newbie here.Is this it

i think dfu mode is when u see itunes logo and connecter on the screen

1. Connect your iPod touch/iPhone to your computer with the USB cable. (make sure iPod/iPhone is on)
2. Hold both power and home buttons at the same time and count to 10 (1 onethousand 2 onethousand etc. )
3. Let go of the Power button, continue to hold the home button until the iPod/iPhone connects back to iTunes

Correction if you don't mind..I would strongly suggest you find out more info on what's DFU means via google before attempting to suggest a solution which is impropriate.

Here are the steps to enter DFU mode for the iPhone.

Get the iPhone into DFU mode. When in this mode, the iPhone screen is black.

1. Connect the iPhone and your Mac/PC
2. Shut down iTunes
3. Hold Power/Sleep until the red slider shows up, slide to shut the iPhone down. If this aint work hold Power/Sleep and Home until the iPhone shuts down.
3. Hold Start/Sleep and Home for 10 seconds
4. Let go of Start/Sleep but keep holding Home until...
5. ... iTunes starts up and finds an iPhone in restore/recovery mode. The iPhone screen is black.

actually i might not be able to help either
not to scare TS but my first phone had issues like that too but not to the extent of every 30 sec it offs itself

mine is like a girl, when it likes to throw tantrums it goes in the way of it doesnt go off, its just that the screen wont wake up even though u push the home button or lock button no matter what.

that particular issue started after i dropped it for the first time on the floor, literally flying off from my hands heading to the asphalt below during the first few days of cny last year.

so TS, i hope you're not having hardware problems like mine does.

When iTunes starts up and finds an iPhone in restore/recovery mode.It looks like this,right?

Now you can close the window and reboot your iphone.

It does not kill battery time as much as the other solution and it defenitly does not get stuck again. I've tried it for two days and still have not seen the problem.
Thats my only solution right now.But its better if there's a solution that dont sacrifice the battery.

Weird,maybe i've been doing it wrong at the dfu part.
This time i try the DFU method posted by davidgary73.

Just to make sure that theres no corrupted files in my posession,I downloaded the 2.2.1 fw,QuickPwn and the bootloaders again.
Its working fine now,its been 7hour and the phone hasnt die yet.

Didnt know that restoring in normal mode and restoring in DFU mode can make a difference.
And yeah its not hardware problem,just a newbie error.Got a lot of reading to do after this. tongue.gif

Update again:
Cycorder made my iPhone die/coma/wont wake up.
Im on 2.2.1,maybe not compatible or something.
So gotta restore again.

This is what i found when i restore:
1st restore - Restore by DFU method,
Spyware Terminator & Symantec Antivirus service is enable.
My iphone die in its sleep.Have to push home & sleep to turn on again.

2nd restore - Also restore by DFU method,
Spyware Terminator & Symantec Antivirus service is disable.
Working like normal.No dead in sleep sindrom.

So the main culprit in my case is these two software.
I did update the two software recently.The update may cause it to confuse between good & dangerous objects/files.
These two software is interfering the restore process without me knowing it.

So its not a newbie error after all. rclxms.gif
