Yes, bcoz it uses ur SIM card to assist in determining your location. The charges are minimal..but if u want total free..juz deselect everything else and select the intergrated gps only

Battery life are acceptable for some. Most AP users are complaining..no idea why..but so far if you get ori set..battery can last you for 2-3 days

Just install Garmin 5.00.30, not much difference than previous version for N85 as this version focuses more on 5800XM..so if got free time only upgrade ba =p

It is safe to charge while using it. I suggest you google around as there are some tricks out there to reduce battery comsuption from garmin

oh ya, few days back i was trying to take some picts with my gal..but stupid N85 like "zoomed" in ady...can see our "big" faces only. I dunno my hand short or the camera memang not suitable to self take?

well, if you only have 1300 chun chun..den go for 5800...if you have like another 300 to spare..would recommend for n85..built quality is much much better =)
