QUOTE(Jackie Lai @ Mar 6 2009, 10:07 AM)
Son only allergic to Toby and not DiDi. Doctor says that there's certain protein on Toby's skin/fur that makes my son allergic. DiDi doesn't seem to have this protein on her. It is a gene thing (according to my vet).

Hi Jackie,

My 2.5 mths girl has nose allergy too. She has been on medication since 2 weeks old. Her doc advised us to keep our son (Milo) away from her - to put him in the balcony or porch or somewhere far farrrrrrrrrr. He said although poodles dont shed but whatever dust on his body will cause allergy when he shakes it. I was so heart broken when i heard that news. My parents grumbled at me. Bla bla bla bla...

I told my hubby i will not put Milo in those places suggested by doctor coz Milo can die of depression. I said i am willing to move to another room within the same house with Milo. HUbby can take care of our baby himself. LOL...

But till today, Milo stays in our room with us. His fur is kept very short and he is not allowed to go near the baby often. Sometimes in the middle of the night, this noty boy will jump onto the bed and sleep with baby and I. He will sniff the baby and sleep on her pillow. sweat.gif

I do not wanna succumb to all these allergy thingy - it's genetic anyway(daughter got from hubby). I want my daughter to grow up with our poodles and not stay away from them.

I'm glad u decided to keep Toby. thumbup.gif

About once in 3-4 months, try to delay if possible. More expensive than my hair-cut  sweat.gif
*
Wahhh...3-4 mths is very long. How do u do that? The longest my boy can tahan is 1.5 mths. That oso all the fur ard his eyes poking into his eyes and causing 'green' discharge.

Yeah, i cut my hair every 6 mths and it is not even half of his monthly grooming expenses. doh.gif

We always ask the groomer to cut short short. Until 1/2 or 3/4 inch only. Looks thin and ugly. Then it takes 2-3 months to get matted and long. Then we drag, delay here and there, busy... normally become 3-4 months  tongue.gif

Maybe I take picture before and after groom this time  rolleyes.gif
LOL...my son only left 1cm long only. Looks like a long sausage. Only the ears' fur is long. Hopefully can last 2 mths this time.

Dear Huey,

Sorry to hear that yr baby daughter has allergy problems. I know yr feeling.

Before birth of eldest son (now 11yrs), I had a Pom and a Shit Tzu but hv to gave them away to friends due to my son's allergy. I was so devastated and heart broken. But my baby come first. Hubby promised that I could hv another dog when both my sons' allergy are better. And it took another 9 long yrs before I hv my DIDI.

There's no cure for allergy. Only to prevent from turning serious. Luckily only youngest son allergy to TOBY n only started these past 3 mths. When TOBY still a puppy, no problem. So now I don't let son play too much with TOBY. Cut TOBY's fur ultra short (n he looks like a hot dog too) and let TOBY wears a t-shirt all the time.

Also, yr baby girl might be allergic to her milk. My youngest son is allergic to cow's milk. So I gave him soya base milk.

Most allergy is caused by dust (dustmite, pollen) and its everywhere. Not only on dogs. I bought a good high power water vacumn cleaner from Karcher and clean the hse daily esp places where baby play and sleep. Karcher has this small apparatus to make suction low and I use this to vacumn DIDI and TOBY too.  N also an air purifier in baby's room. Even with all these precautions, both my sons still get an attack once in a while. D worst is when I hv to rush eldest son to hospital cause cannot breath. Too much phlegm and nose block. And this happened when DIDI n TOBY is not around yet !! So dogs r really not the main problem.

U only mentioned Milo. How about Blossom?
*
Morning Jackie, thanks for sharing. My baby is INDEED allergic to cow's milk. icon_question.gif doh.gif On soy milk now. I dont understand how my room can be so dusty so fast after cleaning each time. We seldom open the windows. We try to change the bedsheet as often as possible and have the air purifier spinning. I also dont understand why the doctor always says my girl's nose is blocked coz of allergy. Blocked with what, i asked. And the worst is her phlegm flows backwards instead of out of her nostrils - this can lead to asthma

U vacuum Didi & Toby? thumbup.gif rclxms.gif

Ohh..Blossom stays in another room. Milo is still in the process of accepting her without dying of stress. Lately, he has not been eating well. doh.gif

Hmmm...actually i think he suffer there lo...He hates baths n blowing n burshing. If u c the time pic was taken, it's ard 6 something. Usually i sent him there very early and only can collect him ard 10.30pm. He will be so so tired after that. HUngry & thirsty.

What to do? coz he is one difficult dog to handle. Val has to wrestle with him all the time to groom.

Ohh..Blossom has completed all her 4 jabs liao.Cried like baby...thot of shaving her coz her fur looks dirty to me and not curly and colour not even. Sigh...i lagi 'sweat'.

Earmites very easy to cure but contagious la. Just drop the earmite liquid for 7-10 days kaotim.

her action really funny, she loves to jump. she usually wil walk backwards then only run n jump. try to jump to bed n always falls down.
*
LOL...this sounds like my Blossom too. Actually i was and still am afraid that she will have brain injury coz she knocks her head on the floor so many times. Inside the cage, she will move backwards and then CHARGE like a bull to bang the cage door open. sweat.gif Dunno wanna say she's smart or not. Then when i say 'UP', she will jump and fall backwards and knock her head or sometimes will do somersault. And when playing with Milo, she will kena BANG by milo and fall on her head.

So, i think i might have a retarded poodle soon. doh.gif

i dont reli know the exact colour of Brendi...his head's colour is deeper than his body..i will try to take his whole body photo....
ya...he make me laugh more..mymom call him as MONDLE= monkey+ poodle...cz he can climb out from a laundry basket that is triple og his height..
he cant sit stil...when i sit on the floor..he must come on my lap...
i tot he will only do that when i sit on the floor..
but i was wrong...when i sit on the sofa..
he wil climb up...look for me...and sit on my lap....
mymom made him a little bolster...
he know how 2 hug that bolster  and sleep....haha...
just like a little baby....
*
hahahah...MONDLE is a new term. I can use it on my red poodle oso. She is like a 'crazy chicken' when released from cage.

if poodles r not active, then there is something wrong. Brendi a boy oso so manja ah? Like my son lo...

Ohh..they behave like babies de. Mine will sleep on our pillow, cover with comforter and SNORE.

We have a birthday party comin soon. Do join us. The organiser is ChristineYap.

I kinda like white ms and toy poddle although I prefer large breed such as alaskan tongue.gif but then both ms n poddle quiet barky right? if I really really really having one might need to train them to not be so barky smile.gif but hard to find parti poddle here right?
*
Poodles r guard dogs - surely they will bark at strangers or when someone is back home etc. Nevertheless, u can train them when to stop barking. It's rare to find parti-coloured poodles. So, when there is one, u gotta grab it fast. There is one with Mervyn but not sure if it's sold already.
