Sony & Samsung share the plant which make the LCD panel for them to market.
Although they are using the same LCD panel, however, the video processing technology behind that panel are different thus you can see different characteristic of pictures quality between Samsung & Sony. Each have their own strength & weaknesses.
Sharp does sell more LCD TV than other brand in Japan but outside of Japan, it's totally diff. Samsung stays at #1, Sony at #2 & surprisingly LG at 3rd spot!

When buying TV, trust your own eyes. Get the one you like most.

Sony outsource some of their LCD panels from Taiwan manufacturers eg Qisda (BenQ) and a few others. But those are for small size LCD. IINM 37" and below (IINM bigger ones still from Japan). But PANELS only! the processor, graphic engine software, other circuitry, etc are still by Sony. So the performance is different from other brand/company buying panels from the same panel manufacturer.
