Hi there si fu-s =)
My dad is planning to get a new TV and his budget is around 4k +-500 like that.
I've read the thread about the difference in plasma and LCD. However I went to seng heng the other day and I've seem some of the plasma there, the colour doesn't seem to be very nice compared to the LCDs. Or maybe its just those plasma that I saw wasn't very good o.O
Anyway do you guys have any good TVs to recommend? Either plasma or LCD, at 42 or 47 inch, full hd.
Also I saw two samsung TV, one with 100Hz and one without and to me the difference is huge. But I want to know is when watching normal Blu-ray and astro, will it make a difference?

QUOTE(sam240 @ Oct 2 2009, 01:24 PM) sometimes is just the setting color/contrast on that TV and make sure they are using HD source + HDMI cable and if possible direct input (not passing splitter), then you only can make your own eyes decisions Alright, when I know which models to check out I'll get to test some BD on them =) QUOTE(rhys86 @ Oct 2 2009, 04:53 PM) For LCD TV u can try Sharp 42A66M or SHARP-LC-42A77M .. QUOTE(gnsumas @ Oct 4 2009, 08:21 PM) Pana isn't number 1 Plasma You forgot Pioneer Kuro Also, Sharp very berpengalaman in LCD, but I don't think they are the best anymore. Sure, Sharp is reliable, make panel in Japan, etc., but there are LCDs with better PQ these days oo, which brand has better PQ than sharp? Cos I went n check out Aquos 42A66, most likely will be getting this one.

QUOTE(gnsumas @ Oct 4 2009, 08:59 PM) Don't get me wrong, Sharp is awesome. But got better brand nowadays. I use A77, which is one step down from the highest one, and my PQ is definitely not as good as Sony's Bravia Z and X range (PQ itself is actually not as nice as W series from what I can tell, but W backlight sucks). Sharp PQ is great though, just not class-leading anymore However, even A77 not as mahal as those I just mentioned. If you looked, you can find better looking for sure, but with Sharp, you can sleep knowing that it won't kong next day yeah from what I saw, sony's PQ is awesome..features too..but price is very "awesome" too haha. Guess we get what we pay for =)

QUOTE(KLX213 @ Oct 6 2009, 12:52 AM) I just got myself a sharp lcd 42A66M. since i only viewing it on dvd and astro in the electrical shop, i just found out it was terrible on Xbox360, even my LG plasma better than it. btw, im using a component cable only. or anything i should adjust to make it better ? I'm not too sure about Xbox360 but i'm quite sure it shouldn't look terrible. Try to use HDMI cable and also adjust the resolution of the xbox360 to display in 720p. As far as the PS3 is concerned, sometimes when u change tv then it will revert back to the original SD resolution so that the tv can display some output. QUOTE(bertz @ Oct 6 2009, 01:00 AM) fruitaleman: cheapest i got so far was 5180...not sure where i can get it for 5000 anyhow any difference between Samsung LA46A750R1R and 46A650? Thanks ! =)

QUOTE(robertngo @ Oct 7 2009, 12:11 AM) Full HD is just a marketing slogan by the tv manufacturer, if 1080p is full HD then 720p should be label as "less hd" or almost HD" instead of "HD ready" which is just confusing people, does HD ready mean it can someday become HD? what is it getting ready for? QUOTE(gnsumas @ Oct 7 2009, 12:18 AM) Ready to become obsolete when 2160p comes out Luckily I'm getting Full HD so its not ready to be obsolete yet lol. Btw, Seng Heng says they have a promotion now, limited stock for Samsung 5 series 40B530 for RM2899. Its a good deal right?

QUOTE(myhat @ Oct 7 2009, 01:35 PM) hehehe in my case my CRT TV just kaput need to find replacement n thought of having a better version of TV rather than gettin another CRT thats y wanna think carefully and seek experts views so that its a one time purchase (at least in 5 - 10 years time)... my type of usage.....? mainly TV....sometime DVD and PS2 What's the lighting condition of your room? If it's mainly TV, DVD and PS2 (All of which are Standard definition (SD)), from what I gather here plasma performs better for SD materials. I went to shops and see LCD and plasma side by side for SD materials and it does seem to do better (smoother, doesn't seem pixelated). However plasma's screen is more reflective so watching in a room with a back light source you will see reflections. I think you'll do good with the P42S10K

QUOTE(Lone*Wolf @ Oct 8 2009, 02:17 PM) Just choose the one that your eyes agree. Take the shop's recommendations with buckets of salt, most recommend based on their sales incentives. Agreed. Take a blu ray disc and play it on both tvs on the default settings, see which one you prefer and get it.

QUOTE(robertngo @ Oct 10 2009, 10:59 PM) is it the way that motions like suddenly spend up on these tv, because that what i think i am seeing. The video will look very smooth...in fact too smooth I think, doesn't feel like you're watching a movie. It gives a very "fake" feel to it.
