noob question.. is it advisable to buy a plasma tv as a desktop monitor replacement?
my friend bought one but it seems that the font are all very small. eventhough this could be altered but other 3rd party applications font couldn't be changed.
also.. what about the image retention/burn in effect? if using windows, etc. how long it takes for the image retention?
I think that should be okay if you are going to use it from your bed or something. Im using 37" LCD, a few feet (7ft) away from my eyes. When using FULL HD, yeah, the font is really small but you dont need FULL HD for normal viewing cos its so small. You can set your media player (ie. Media Player Classic) to change the resolution to FULL HD when viewing HD or FULL HD content. I had my desktop at HD (1280 x 720) and the font is thick and easily readable.

can anyone here help me for the problem below?
I bought a philips 42PFL5609s/98 full hd lcd tv recently. However, i found out that this lcd cannot support 1920x1080 for PC connection format after checking the user manual. The manual stated 1360x768 only via DVI/HDMI. I try to adjust the resolution via Nvidia Control Panel but just cannot adjust the resolution to 1920x1080. I m using NEC laptop (8600M GT) via HDMI-HDMI.
So, what can I do to view my pc connection at 1920x1080 on this TV? anyone can share the experience?

Well, maybe you should try another drivers. Laptop drivers usually provide limited resolution. Usually they would go on to modify the desktop card model to accomodate more resolution.
Anyway, dont use VGA connection. Its really sucks. I tried that on my 37" LCD as well. The max resolution is 1366x768. However, PC only support 1360x768 which makes the text hard to read because of pixelation. Normally Full HD is only available via HDMI. Even though the drivers does dictate the resolution availability, I dont think it will deter you from choosing 1920x1080. Make sure you enable 1080p first. Let me try it with my LCD when I get home. I have a laptop with 8600M GT as well. Will keep you updated.
