Learned something new yesterday.
All this while, I thought Astro broadcast in 4:3, didn't know they do 16:9 now. Has it been upgrade? or only on certain channels?
Went to a coffee shop last night, they have a 29" CRT and 42" Plasma showing the same channel, 333.
To my surprise, the picture in the Plasma didn't get stretch in horizontal, in fact it shows more contents on both sides compare to 4:3.

similar to anamorphic dvds? didn't know that's possible from astro...but if this is true, it is good news smile.gif

hello sifus, is using those monster brand cables to connect your equipments like video and audio etc really that good compare to using those normal cables? thx smile.gif

Afaik, Monster brand its way overpriced, and no different from lesser brands and yet u saved like 50% off compared to Monster brand.

Just don't get ridiculously low price ones... normal brands like SoundTech, Philips, Belkin will have the same quality as overpriced Monster brand.

Unless u can find very low priced Monster 1.3 hdmi cable for like rm100 or lower.. that would be awesome.. lol

hi guys, I'm very n00b in this computer thingy.
Will be buying a new rig to play games, and I'd like to ask you all some opinion.
Would it be advisable to get a 32" LCD TV with full HD or just get one without full HD.
The price difference is huge from a full HD to a non full HD. Also nowadays the GCs have full HD ?
*
For PC use, definately get FullHD, if not yer desktop will look like 14inch monitor due low resolution.

And yes, ages ago graphic card can do even higher than FullHD.

HD and FullHD terms, imo mainly for non-tech ppl or layman ppl.

HD = 1280x720 resolution.
FullHD = 1920x1080 resolution.

Oops, typo corrected reminded by aria88 blush.gif

Dammm.. now i have think twice getting plasma liaoz... *sigh*... was aiming for 50S10 for its price value.

Like quite mafan to avoid image-retention and burn-in... esp. i like to watch movies on it, as its mostly not 16:9 ratio meaning theres 'black bars' topbottom of the screen... and at the same time wanna play PS3 games on it.. then had to worry abt 'static images', like "HUD, Scores, CommandPanel etc".

Wherelse lcd has no such issue rite?...

Cheers sweat.gif

Ok, what i gather here.. the cons and pros :-

Plasma pros : no lag/ghosting issues, wide viewing angles, slightly natural colors, most have tempered screen glass for durability.
cons : burn-in, image-retention, slightly more power-consumption.

LCD pros : slightly less power-consumption, no burn-in, no image-retention.
cons : lag/ghosting issue but hardly noticable(?), too much contrast lead to picture quality doesn't look natural(?), viewing angles not as good plasma(?), no extra protection for the screen.

(Referring to most common lcd/plasma which its not 100Hz and above, or not Kuro and etc.).

Anything i missed there?.. do correct me, if i list wrong there.. blush.gif

You only use your TV to watch non 16:9 movie?  sweat.gif  Don't use TV to watch Astro, etc.?  If you use it to watch Astro, etc., why do you worry about it?  rclxub.gif
*
What i meant was, normally i watch movies its on "cinema ratio" mah.

I watch abt the same amount of Astro and movies, thats why im worry abt the those burn-in and image-retention, esp. some PS3 gaming.

when reset back to 16:9 mode, can see IR but after a few days all clear back to normal....

that would be an easy way to do it.

I asked jintex's boss what's the best way, he told me there's special CDs that continuously play colour patterns. What I did is download HD demos and repeat-shuffle.

I see.. what demo ur using there?.. title?..

Well, its juz colors... why wouldnt work?..

Thats what i diy'ed (20years ago?) last time when i tried it on those so called "3D comics", as i lost its 3D-glasses, so i used what sam240 mentioned.

And it works the same wink.gif

Oh well mabbe its different to "3D" in movies... no harm trying tho, considering those materials are cheap and pretty ez to find.

Afaik, KURO oso reflective... isn't most PlasmaTVs are reflective?... 99%?... and yet no one say that abt KURO.. lol

Btw, imo isn't the PlasmaTV reflectiveness same as typical tube (CRT) TVs?... so... if u have no problem with yer tube-TV, so u shldn't worry abt PlasmaTV's reflectiveness rite?..

I heard someone said at first Sony's panels its by Samsung, then later by LG.

Kinda funny that Sony (a huge company) didn't make their own lcd panel.

I guess Sony its putting all their resources on their OLED TVs?..
