So is it worth it to buy Pioneer 428XG now? I just checked and price quoted is still RM6000 - RM6299. Anyone know where to get this cheaper?CLOSED

QUOTE(edwintey @ Feb 13 2009, 04:03 PM) Yes, go for it. This price should be the plain nett price, right? Without Mini HT System. I also heard that Pioneer has no more stock of 428. But isn't there a 9th generation Kuro available? Even though production has stopped, the latest generation is the 9th Gen not the 8th Gen. Do you think they will bring in the 9th Gen Kuro to sell? If not - will consider getting the 428 now.Pioneer Malaysia has no more stock (428 or 508). Make sure the shop has the stock not the use or display set. If you didn't buy you would regret. Trust me, chose Pioneer Kuro not other, whatever those has Full HD or even 100/200Hz, tak boleh lawan lah kawan. Because Resolution is not the only & main issue, as long as output 1080p video signal. I have evaluated the 428. Honestly, for Astro, it's nothing spectacular. For movies - it's superb but needs serious calibration as soooo many settings to play with. Just browse through the hundreds of pages of discussions on Pioneer plasma tv settings on AVS Forum to see how complicated getting the optimum settings for this unit can be. Therefore, I prefer to wait for the 429 if they are bringing it in (of course - the price of the 429 will also be a factor!!!!!). This post has been edited by ProComplex: Feb 13 2009, 10:52 PM |

QUOTE(deepan2004 @ Feb 15 2009, 07:59 PM) I second that. Just got one and addicted to it. Used to waste a lot of time remuxing mkv files.Colors are great! Video output from the WD TV seems to be very well calibrated. Colors come out rich and vibrant - even better than Oppo and PS3 for color. No regrets getting one. Price of Pioneer 508 dropped to RM9,500.00 for brand new set because of stock clearance. Worth it or not? Was paying that much for a 43 inch set only 2 years ago! Its for the 1365 x 768 native resolution model. The 50 inch full 1080p version is too expensive for me. Demo set going for RM14,999.
Any comments? |

QUOTE(mpyw @ Apr 6 2009, 10:01 AM) RM9.5k!!! for 508XG? grab it...u won't regret....if you r sitting 10 feet a way from your screen....u can see the effect of the full HD anyway Thanks for your advice bro! Ok will grab. Bought Blu Ray disc from you last year. Sold the disc already to another forumer. I don't collect discs - once watched, I would rather sell it off.Comparing the full HD 508 and HD ready 508, I couldn't really tell the difference. In fact, the blacks on the HD Ready set are very very slightly better. The salesman said its because the full HD set has more pixels. Of course the plus side of the full HD set are more pixels/detail. This post has been edited by ProComplex: Apr 6 2009, 10:41 AM |

QUOTE(anfieldude @ Apr 6 2009, 11:41 AM) This might be the LX508. Not the KRP-500. Heard KRP-500 new set is selling ~ RM18k in KL Dude - I'm always impressed with your knowledge of Pioneer Plasmas! Will let you know how it turns out. I have a X-rite Eye One calibration tool. Apparently you can use it to calibrate plasma tv's - but no time to figure it out. Probably will use the auto setting for the time being.Added on April 6, 2009, 11:43 am Also PM me when u get it. Ask mpwy on how the calibrated set looks like.... The salesman lied on the blacks being better due to more pixels. The AR coating is slightly different between the Full HD and the HD Ready. Thats what makes the blacks blacker. The KRP-500 has even deeper blacks. |

QUOTE(anfieldude @ Apr 20 2009, 10:20 AM) I believe I did not only quote that Pioneer has only the best blacks. It also has a lot of the other things that I quoted (gamma, grayscale, colour encoder, colour accuracy). And you are spot on, the general population does not give a damn about how great the picture quality looks. I was merely responding to what was an inaccurate statement that "nowadays Panny is as good as a Pioneer". Hi - keep your comments coming! I've always found you incredibly knowledgeable about AV in general and plasmas, especially pioneer plasmas, in particular! I, for one, really learn a lot from your posts! By the way, I'm also a fan of Pioneer Plasmas.Let me give you an example, if you go back in the history of the plasma, the current gen plasma for Panny is 12th Gen. Panny was the leader in black level and overall plasma picture reporoduction until the 9th Gen. During the fierce competition of between Fujitsu,Hitachi, Pioneer and Panny (Sony dropped out just before this year) to improve on picture quality, Pioneers released the 7th and 8th Gen plasmas. After that they leapt ahead. Panasonic made a strong comeback in the 11th gen but was not close enough. Fujitsu actually made consumer plasmas that were superior to Pioneer in all aspects except black levels, but the chose to exit 2 years ago and now Pioneer. My worry is that with Fujitsu and Pioneer exiting while Hitachi focusing more on LCDs, plasma technology growth might stop. Again, if you are interested in future PDP growth you will find that the plasma have 2 more stuff up their sleeves. Namely 5 lumen and 10 lumen technology. What does this do? It enables brighter pictures and lower power consumption both of which is is LCDs strengths. You are already witnessing some sort of semi 5 lumen tech (Neo PDP) that is released in this years Panasonic. If you check last years CES you will find that Pioneer demo-ed a Extreme Contrast PDP that was supposed to be done using their patents for producing 5-10lumens tech. The development on Plasmas and LCDs are an interesting area of science that a lot of people take for granted. You are confusing a good product to a succesful product. Panny is the best company to bring costs down, just see how their pricing strategy on their plasmas are. It is a known fact that the guys that sell more survive. That was the downfall of Pioneer and Fujitsu in the display technology. Again, I believe that Samsung will continue to drive innovation even in the Plasma division. I hope that your prediction of plasma becoming extinct does not happen. For the sake of the end user you would like to see continued innovation in display technologies. I mean no harm, it is obvious that some here do not like to know the correct information. My post was meant to try to explain to people that if you compare data, the statement was inaccurate. I will refrain myself from posting information as these in the future. I would like to state also that I am not a Pioneer fanboy or a plasma fanboy. I only want to be able to view the best the technology has to offer. If LCDs improve and we all win, I don't care what the public think as long as they are happy. How about sharing your latest settings for pioneer plasmas for watching Astro, DVD and WD TV? Any difference to the settings for each of these sources?
