QUOTE(l_berd @ Jan 29 2009, 02:29 PM)
next match which team will face Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal?

is it liverpool vs Chelsea? great then one of the team/ both team should drop point there. great opportunity for us to gain maximum advantage by winning Everton (they're on top form now but so do we. we destroyed Wigan 5 match unbeaten record before, rite?)
*
LIV v CHE & ARS v West Ham smile.gif

Everton has been very solid defensively so it will be a tight affair I think. Plus they seems to always raise their games against the Big 4 teams. Not to mention the potential god-mod-goalie syndrome doh.gif

QUOTE(l_berd @ Jan 29 2009, 02:49 PM)
but then we got Rio+Vidic (something that other Big 3 dont have biggrin.gif) so Cahill alone should have tough time in front. the trick is not to let them have an early/last minute goal to create an open game, else it'll become bus parking game
*
Is Rio even fully fit when he played against WBA? If he is still not 100% then might not want to risk him. Maybe sub appearance instead?

Work over going to head home before it starts raining. I suggest people ignore the clown and focus on the most important matter at hand, laughing at Liverpool. It's much more fun.

No offense air_mood but I don't think its appropriate to call someone clown, no? smile.gif

Let's see if I can redirect the discussion back to track.

Question of the day: Do we start Rio against Everton?

We all know his back injury has been troubling him quite often this season so how fit was him @ WBA? 70%? 80%? Or more?

For me, I wouldn't risk him if its anything less than 80%?

ala.

Why isn't anyone talking about my 3-shots-on-target Manucho?

He's starting to perform at Hull dammit! Unlike that kid who scores a fluke.
*
What fluke? He ran riot against Ekotto [against Spurs] and could had score a good goal after dribbled past 3 players. only for Gunter to block it biggrin.gif

Vidic braced for ban decision

QUOTE
Published: 28 Jan 2009

NEMANJA VIDIC is set to discover whether he will miss the crunch Champions League double header with Inter Milan.
The Manchester United star was sent off in the Club World Cup final last month.

Vidic was given a red card for elbowing Liga de Quito striker Claudio Bieler in Toyko.

And FIFA are ready to decide the length of his ban amid fears that he will miss both legs of the last 16 clash with Jose Mourinho's side.

FIFA's disciplinary committee will hear the case on Friday, with a decision expected by Monday.

The ban would be served in the Champions League because he was representing the European governing body at the FIFA tournament.

United will meet Italian champions Inter on February 24 before the home leg on March 11.

QUOTE(l_berd @ Jan 29 2009, 05:52 PM)
then you should look at Michael Ball (hope this is his name) from M.City and Pogatetz from Boro. those are intentional. Vidic's not (IMO mind you).

still remember last season (or last two seasons) where everton lead by 2-0 before we made a come  back to win 4-2. if we lost that match then we only lead Chelsea by GD. hope no heart attack this round. luckily it's at Old Trafford so minor advantage for us in terms of mentality and mood

my XI:

VDS

Gary Rio(Brown) Vidic Oshea

Park Scholes Carrick C7

Berbatov Tevez

Sub: Kuz, chester, fletcher, giggs, evra(we know SAF tongue.gif), tosic, brown
*
Since there was totally no news or even slight hints that Park, Rio & Brown were going to be involved against WBA let alone starting [for Rio], it will not surprise me if somehow Rooney can make it on the bench as well! laugh.gif

Our previous lineups:

QUOTE
Man Utd: Van der Sar, Neville (Eckersley 71), Ferdinand (Brown 70), Vidic, O'Shea, Park, Carrick, Giggs, Ronaldo, Berbatov (Tosic 77), Tevez

Subs Not Used: Kuszczak, Scholes, Fletcher, Gibson

So Giggs is not going to start or might not even in the squad depending on his fitness. Gary subbed off after 70min so should be fine as well. The only possible changes is who will partner Vida?

*
Under David Moyes, they are always a tough opponent to play against. Now that they found their new weapon in Cahill, it will be interesting to see how we can cope with him and also Joleon Lescott during setpiece.

Ferdinand feeling good

QUOTE
Rio Ferdinand made his return from a niggling back problem against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday, and he aims to stay injury free for the rest of the season.

Ferdinand missed nine matches with the back problem, which has actually troubled him sporadically throughout the season.

"I could have played a little bit longer at West Brom but the manager brought me off. I'm fine. There are no problems," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"I've just got to keep on top of it, keep working hard and keep doing my training, and continue to be injury free hopefully."

Fortunately for United, the likes of Jonny Evans and Gary Neville have been admirable stand-ins. And Rio wants to continue where his team-mates left off.

"It is just about continuing what we have been doing," he says. "I think we have been very tight of late. We have got players who are very businesslike at the moment.

"The players want to get the job done, score goals, want to defend - and defend for our lives - and keep clean sheets.

"With that form, you are onto a good thing, but medals haven't been handed out yet so we are not going to get ahead of ourselves. We set ourselves a target, we have got to where we wanted to be at this stage, and we need to continue that now."

Double boost for United

QUOTE
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Patrice Evra and Nani could be at his disposal this weekend.

The Red Devils have recently been victim of an injury crisis, with several of their first-team players sidelined.

However, the Premier League champions have still demonstrated impressive form, while Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown and Park Ji-sung all returned in the 5-0 midweek win at West Bromwich Albion.

And Ferguson has revealed Evra (ankle) and Nani (groin) are both set to return for the home clash with Everton on Saturday.
Looking up

The Scot told the Manchester Evening News: "Things are looking up and players are starting to come back.

"Patrice may have a chance for Saturday against Everton. If the game had still been on Monday I'd say he'll definitely play. But he's still got a chance of making it.

"Nani should also be fit for Saturday as well. The ones still unavailable are Jonny Evans, Rafael and Fabio, and Anderson."

Meanwhile, United captain Ferdinand has praised the side's recent displays while issuing caution over maintaining their focus.

Medals

He said: "We have got players who are very businesslike at the moment, wanting to get the job done, score goals, wanting to defend, and defend for our lives, and keep clean sheets.

"With that form, you are on to a good thing. But medals haven't been handed out yet so we are not going to get ahead of ourselves.

"We have just got to the top of the league and we need to consolidate on that now, try to keep the momentum and get more points on the board.

"If we continue to do that, in the manner we have done in the last few games, we have got a great chance of picking up some silverware."

QUOTE
Sao Paulo attacking midfielder Wellington is attracting attention from some of Europe's leading clubs, according to reports in Brazil.

Wellington, full name Wellington Aparecido Martins, has only made one league appearance for his club but already has the big boys circling.

According to sources in his homeland the youngster, who has just turned 18, is being tracked by Manchester United, Real Madrid and Roma.

The starlet is the latest 'next big thing' to come off the conveyor belt of talent in Brazil and Sao Paulo are reportedly keen to keep hold of their newest prodigy.

The Brazilian club have already slapped a 15million euros (£13.9m) valuation on the player following speculation that Roma have contacted the midfielder's family over a possible move.

United are said to have been in touch with Sao Paulo over a possible transfer while Real Madrid have been alerted by the interest but have yet to make a formal enquiry.

"My dream is to play in Europe. Really I do not have a preference but I am very ambitious and I desire to enter a big championship," the player himself stated.

"I watch the television for the big matches in Europe and I intend to play in these games some time."

Moment of the weekend - Man Utd's landmark

Manchester United set a new Premier League record of 11 successve clean sheets with another shut-out in the 5-0 win over West Brom on Tuesday.

Edwin van der Sar and United's defence eclipsed Chelsea's record for consecutive clean sheets with another commanding display at the Hawthorns.

United have not conceded a league goal since the 2-1 defeat at Arsenal in November and their defensive strength has been the driving force behind their rise to the top of the table

If Van der Sar and co keep out Everton for 72 minutes on Saturday the Dutchman will break the Football League record of 1,103 minutes, set by Steve Death for Reading in 1979.

Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid rumours resurface

QUOTE
Cristiano Ronaldo is, as ever, the talk of the Spanish transfer press, with a sprinkling of Lionel Messi for good measure. Sport, the Catalan daily newspaper, reported yesterday that Jorge Mendes, the Manchester United forward’s agent, has signed a long-term agreement with Real Madrid worth about £91 million. The deal reportedly includes a penalty clause that would force Ronaldo and his agent to pay Real €20 million (about £18 million) if he does not appear at the Bernabéu at the start of next season.

The accuracy of the news as reported by Sport is dubious, not least because there would be a slew of highly paid lawyers beating down Mendes’s door if he had signed on behalf of Ronaldo. However, Real used a similar tactic in 2000 when they lured Luís Figo from Barcelona. Whether such a “penalty clause” would be enforceable is another matter. A further wrinkle is that this supposed contract was signed with Ramón Calderón, who resigned as president of Real two weeks ago. Whether it would be valid now is anyone’s guess.

Either way, the Ronaldo-to-Real drumbeats continue unabated. The Madrid club’s players are asked to weigh in on Ronaldo daily, with Christoph Metzelder, the Germany defender, saying yesterday that he thought that Messi, the Barcelona and Argentina forward, was better. Which may explain why Barcelona are reportedly firing back with big plans of their own.

Chelsea and City join chase for Tevez

QUOTE
Chelsea and Manchester City will join Real Madrid in the scramble for the services of Carlos Tévez if the Manchester United forward prices himself out of a long-term contract at Old Trafford.

United are in negotiations to sign Tévez on a permanent basis once their two-year lease arrangement expires in June, but progress has been awkward, with Kia Joorabchian, head of the companies that own the player’s economic rights, maintaining that they must pay a fee of £22 million in addition to the downpayments of about £10 million that have already been made and a salary well in excess of £100,000 a week.

Other clubs have been alerted to the impasse and while Real’s interest is well known, Chelsea and City have also made clear their desire to be kept informed of developments.

The Argentina forward has expressed a preference to stay with United but, as well as the financial complications, he has been frustrated at times this season by his demotion to third choice behind Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney. Madrid would be his preferred destination if he were to leave United, but Chelsea and City would offer further options.

City officials have discussed the feasibility of such a coup with Mark Hughes, the manager, since the failed bid to sign Kaká, the Brazil forward, from AC Milan this month. The fee for Tévez would be £32 million, but Chelsea appear to be willing to match that valuation in the summer while also bidding to sign Luis Fabiano, the Brazil forward, from Seville.

City are hoping to make one last, big splash in the January transfer window as Hughes prepares to pursue an alternative striker in the event that Blackburn Rovers do not accept the club’s final £18.5 million offer for Roque Santa Cruz.
