Woah... so nice can get cheaper 2nd hand FL36.

Harrychoo mind to teach me some basic techniques with FL36?

lol, I'm not really good in flash even when the time i'm using DSLR.
I'm not really sure whether did TTL works with LX3 or not (i think it works) but i dun really like TTL.
If u ok by using manual, there is option for u to adjust the Guide Number, GN, that's to adjust the power of the flash.
If the place u shoot got a ceiling, try to use bounce as much as possible to prevent harsh flash. Bounce it 90degrees or 15 degrees to the back.
If u are at outdoor and want to treat it as fill in flash only, u can use direct flash, or bounce it with a bounce card, or buy omnibounce to diffuse the light.
If u want to conserve ur flash batt or prevent slow refresh rate, try to boost up ur camera ISO so u dun need to use full power of ur flash, else u need to wait very long to fire another shot.
U can see the LED lit on when ur flash is fully recharge back.
