did any n79 user try 5800 b4/???
did u guy regret not getting the 5800xm??

any comment???
yes o no regret???reason??
*
yes, my wife has the 5800XM and I just got my N79 2 days ago (Zitron, 4Gb SDHC, RM1300.00 @ Tesco Mutiara Damansara)

I'll give you my reason for not going 5800XM, but that don't mean it is not a good phone, just that it's not suitable for me.

- N79 has FM transmitter
- more "complete" support for Symbian software, some software still need keypad to activate so hard/cannot use on 5800XM, some applications cannot scroll down
- 5MP camera
- I still like keypad and I feel n-Gage works better with keypad, and the shortcut, media key and menu button is useful for me
- can support 3.5G, WLAN, accelerometer, tv/audio out, gps like the 5800XM
- dimensions is slimmer than 5800XM
- got more funky colors.. i like the coral red x-press on covers on my grey unit
- i don't think i'll lose much with the smaller screen.. since i actually intend on getting an E66 earlier

but coming from being an E-series user, i wish that N79 could do the following
- customize my active standy plugin (i.e. take away some of the items shown on the main menu like "search" and "WLAN scanning" ---> anybody knows how? I want to customize, pick and choose and not completely remove, and I don't want to the HandyShell way tongue.gif
- display my first few SMS or email message on the "Home" screen

anybody got the following problem?
the phone keeps asking me to: connect to "internet" via "DiGinet" - accept and set "use access point" "to automatically" but i am not running any other applications.
i am already on SW version 20.175.53.1 dated 06-04-09.

so far so good the phone - battery life is good, no hangs or slowness experienced. but i haven't install much software yet.

(display my first few SMS or email message on the "Home" screen) i'm not really understand. hmm.gif
izzit the phone asking u want to connect internet via Diginet and u just saw it whn you unlocked keypad that time?
haha i just got this problem few days ago... sweat.gif
Erm...1st mayb you can try
1)To delete some apps that you had install recently.
2)If still having problem, try to restore to factory setting.
3)Last, try to format your memory card.
haha, you must have e-series to understand of appreciate.
with e-series, there will be 2 lines reserved for SMS or email. so you can take a quick look at what is the 2 newest email/sms that came in. it has details about the sender and first few words.. so i don't have to go to inbox to view my sms/email and ignore those spam or delete it later.

i fixed my problem already. when i upgraded to the latest software (20.175.53.1), there was additional standby plugins like "share online", "install internet telephone" and "setup email" something like that. all these require internet access, so i just went into the application or click these items and use the settings to remove it from the standby. after that, it stopped asking me to dial internet connection

"install internet telephone" i also saw this but dunno how to use, mind to share???
So in this update will it display the newest sms???
*
you can actually go there and select "Remove shortcut" if you don't want it. what it does is to install an application called Gizmo5 (www.gizmo5.com) which works something like Skype for the phone. I prefer to use Fring, so I didn't install it. And no, this is not the function to show the SMS on your active standby menu, they only have it on the e-series.

and i think got a few people notice their GPRS or Data bill shoot up after using this phone, maybe you want to consider turning off/remove some of these Active Standby application (i.e. share online, nokia messaging/mail for exchange) which i suspect is automatically connecting to the network (if you make the settings as auto connect).

I had removed d shortcut of that Gizmo5 but where to find d installer again in d phone?
Got any idea where to get something like MSN that can use in free?
Izzit share online will also affect phone always ask to connect internet?
*
i'm not sure if the installer already in the phone, but you can always go back to the gizmo5.com website to download.
for free MSN, I alway use Fring as it connects to most services, including twitter and facebook. You can try ebuddy mobile messenger, depends on what other IM service you need.

can't confirm is share online will automatically online for you, i lazy to try, because i removed all the other standby applications one-shot like share online and internet telephony, and the phone never asks me to go online anymore..

Does N79 support 16GB SDHC? On the spec., maximum is 8GB, but why Nokia list 16GB card on their N79 accessory page? http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-so...n79-accessories

Anyone tried before?
*
i googled and found the answer at another forum which says that 16gb will work on the n79, because i quote "Nokia always insist on saying 8gb max" smile.gif

I think is Firmware update Over The Air...

By the way, can someone please explain if Wifi is associate with 3G? If I have a WiFi enable phone, is that mean the phone is also a 3G?
*
nope. 3G is for cellular - related to handphones - running from 850MHz to 2100 MHz
Wifi is originally developed for pc/laptops, then nowadays it can be integrated to handphones - running on 2.4GHz frequencies.

although both can connect you to the internet, it is different technology

FOTA - firmware over the air is much more safe than upgrading your firmware through NSU. Failure during upgrading with NSU (nokia software updater) is very rare.

NSU re-writes your entire firmware and formats the entire phone, but FOTA only patches the required file only.

extremely small footprint means takes up very little memory and file size smile.gif

But y sumtime after i on back my phone in morning, still got show "connect to Diginet (internet) now?"
What is d problem???

Added on May 23, 2009, 12:26 pmAnyone know how to check graphic card version (DirectX)???
N pls teach me how to update it also thx...
*
try to search for any application that uses internet like software update, and turn off the automatic update. ormaybe your clock set to "automatic time update"?

to check your directx version, goto "run" type "Dxdiag" and it will show ur version. i long time never play games liao, and you can always get the latest DirectX installer from microsoft website, there is no partial update you have to install the whole file.
if you want to find out what version of directx your graphic card support, you have to go to the website of the manufacturer.. else you can try GPU-Z http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

nokia will never create the perfect phone for you and me.. if not.. no one will buy their N70, N71, Nxxx to N100 or whatever models they come out in the future...

however, it only lags when bluetooth is turned on
