Just went through the specs sheet on honda's website. Some changes:

1) Heat absorbent glass for both 1.8 and 2.0
2) Side mirror turning light now available to 1.8 too thumbup.gif
3) Single CD player and USB input for 1.8 and 2.0

This is from a previous post, but not sure if this is complete. No pics yet but it's nothing radically different.

Added on March 13, 2010, 7:07 pmHey guys, it's already confirmed that on Monday, the interest hike will kick in from current 2.7 something to 3.25 and 3.5 (I think depending on loan duration). As I know even today or tomorrow is not too late as some banks' (esp. those workaholics in Public Bank) loan officers are staying back the weekend in anticipation of last minute applications.

Also, wanna get some advice from you guys, should I get a 1.8 or 2.0? I know the "technical" differences well enough, but from a long term use perspective, are there differences? For example:
Is 2.0 really that much more powerful?
Will 2.0 use up a lot more fuel compared to 1.8 which is using a newer version of engine?
Is the 2.0 engine (plus some additional features) really worth the increase of RM 16K in price?
Will servicing be more expensive for 2.0?
How does engine reliability compares between 2.0 and 1.8?

Arghh... I am so undecided. Help!
*
If you are undecided, read this.

Basically, for normal driving conditions, the 1.8 does not differ much from the 2.0 according to this review. It is at high rpms and top speed that the 2.0 really comes to play cos of the bigger cc and DOHC. If you are using the car mainly for city driving, a 1.8 will consume less fuel than a 2.0.

Quoted from the article, "Like the K20Z the R18A feels very torquey, especially for a 1.8l. Is it equal to the 2.0S ? To put it bluntly, yes ! In fact, in low and medium low speeds, I had a pretty hard time trying to find the difference in power between the 1.8S and 2.0S. The higher power of the K20Z only really becomes apparent at higher rpms as the R18A loses breathe at high rpms. Indeed the 1.8S won't be that much slower if one does not push the car hard !! For driving at 'sensible' speeds, up to around 140-150kph, ultimately only the lack of the sequential shifter will be the one big disadvantage of the 1.8S over the 2.0S." See, how often do we drive at RM140km/h?

Of course if you think about the extra things for the difference of RM16k, it is kinda worth it BUT how often do you use the extra features? If budget is not a problem for you, then by all means go for the 2.0 as it is "Baby-R" and more glamorous when ppl ask you, "What you drive?" and you answer, "I drive a 2.0 Civic ONLY ma". But if budget is a concern, then you will have to sit down and look at the spec sheet and think if the "extras" are a NEED or a WANT.

I know it is a difficult decision as I am also pondering over 1.8 or 2.0 but I am not those lucky types that can afford a FD while in college or even fresh out to work. No doubt it is very tempting to be able to own a 2.0 cos of pride but sometimes we need to decide based on practicality.

So, it is up to you. It all bores down to budget and the NEEDs and WANTs. You can do a lot with RM16k......like, you can go outside to get a bodykit, fit leather seats,etc.. and still have money left in the pocket.

That's my 2 cents. FD2 owners please don't flame me.... notworthy.gif

ZeroSP, drgnkid, thanks for this informative discussion. I think all this helps a lot. You guys really know your car well. Feel like Initial D here with those chassis number flying around ;-D
No problemo bro, but don't hold my word to it. What I know is mainly through articles and reviews which I found through forums and internet. I don't own a Civic but I hope to one day.

Nope.. For Civic the PPS system costs 500+... I got a better yet expensive alternatives, but it is far more secure than PPS, recommended by director of one of the Honda 3S center. The Operations Director even scratch his applied GTR with coins it just works...

*
1.8 or 2.0?

1.8 should be around RM90+ K close to RM100K
2.0 should be slightly above RM100+K

Best to check classifieds in the newspaper.

Added on March 16, 2010, 10:57 amBtw, anyone knows if we buy brand new by cash, will we get the car faster?

Well, I can assure you that there are ppl who take a 9 year loan - I am one of them. Of course a 5 to 7 year loan is ideal but sometimes there is no choice. Your comment is kinda degrading. What's wrong with taking a 9 year loan?

Haha..nvm...i found the answer in your signature, "OmniMech - Bringing You Ultimate Sarcasm Since 2006"

Yes... Although info not revealed yet... But think of it like this...

Civic 1.8S = Accord 2.0 VTi
Civic 1.8S-L = Accord 2.0 VTi-L

I guess it goes that way... It will be around 120K OTR...
*
Hope it is not too close to RM120K or else better get an FD2. Furthermore, if close to RM120K can get leather seats and BK from outside, still come up to about the same amount.

I hope I am not out of the topic.

Keen to purchase a Civic 1.8 but was told by friends that the current model is due to be replaced by 2011.

Checked with Honda's SA, most of them say not sure as the demand for the current model is very good.

I wonder if any forummer has any info re the tentative date of the launch of the New Civic. If within 2011, I am quite prepared to wait....

Thank you.

New civic is "rumoured" to be out late 2011/early 2012. If you can wait, then by all means... smile.gif

If you look back a few posts, you will notice that it is also "rumoured" that a new minor facelifted model is due in July. Supposedly FD2 (2.0) fittings on the current FD1 (1.8). Something like the current Accord, where they have the normal 2.0 and the 2.0 vti-L. Just cosmetic differences like leather seat, side mirror indicators and probably cruise control (hopefully) if it follows the Accord.

Lancer vs Civic... I guess the answer is obvious... But you gonna decide which to buy just because one can smoke one by a bit? Or you gonna take a look at the feeling sitting inside first?

Civic 1.8S-L variant will be launching mid July... Pretty much like Accord VTi-L, FD1 fitted with some FD2 stuffs.

And the Ultra Glass... As long as I am here, the price stays haha... And also those sewed coil mats... All special price... Perfect fitting...
*
Sigh..the Lancer vs Civic dilemma. My personal opinion is:

1) Lancer is more "exclusive" (i.e. not "a dime a dozen" like Civic). Nowadays, everywhere you look, you are bound to see a Civic. So it has lost its "exclusiveness" in a way. Maybe the trend is changing for Lancer as they are offering free 2 years maintenance now so maybe we will see more Lancers on the road in the coming months?

2) Civic is more classy and executive whereas Lancer is more "boy racer" type. If you are the type you likes to come out in a group driving the same cars, then Lancer will turn more heads than Civic (my personal opinion).

3) Lancer's design will get dated fast whereas Civic is more "future-proof" design-wise. For Lancer, it's the spur of the moment thing. For Civic, it's for keeps. To put it in layman terms, Lancer is for a fling but Civic is the one you take home to be your wife. Hahahaha....

4) ~Disclaimer: This is my personal opinion~ I am not fond of P1 so this point might be biased so here goes - Lancer's service center is EON! Also, Mitsubishi's affiliation with Proton makes it dangerous in the sense that, maybe in a couple of years, you will be able to buy a rebadged Lancer for less than RM90K. That would suck BIG TIME!

5) I think Lancer is heavier than Civic and has bigger rims so FC is questionable.

6) Lancer might be a bit uncomfortable for touring as it is more of a performance car.

So there. My 2 cents.

Bro zero, any idea what the price is like for the Civic 1.8S-L variant? For the Accord, it was a difference of RM7000 which I think will not apply to Civic cos if RM7K, the 1.8 will be more expensive than 2.0! I am really interested to know more info. Do share if you have. Thanks smile.gif

If all goes well and I get my Civic, I'll definitely look you up for the Ultra Neo coating smile.gif
