Tyger! Tyger! burning bright,
In the forests of the night, What immortal hand or eye Could frame thy fearful symmetry? In what distant deeps or skies Burnt the fire in thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand dare seize the fire? And what shoulder, and what art? Could twist the sinews of thy heart? And when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand, and what dread feet? What the hammer? What the chain? In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? What dread grasp Dare its deadly terrors clasp? When the stars threw down their spears, And watered heaven with their tears, Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the Lamb, make thee? Tyger! Tyger! burning bright, In the forests of the night, What immortal hand or eye Dare frame thy fearful symmetry? The Tyger - William Blake |

I like the poem by Jalaludin Rumi and the haiku I read in yasmin ahmad's blog. Really simple and meaningful.
and farewell, my country by Jose Rizal is great as well. The collections of poems by geisha and kisaeng are also great. The title of it is So,what is this love? "So, what is this love? Is it round or flat; is it long or short enough to be paced off or laid beside a ruler? Some say it lasts as long as it lessens; mine breaks to a sharp edge within me. |

You're all welcome.
I was channel-surfing last night, and Patch Adams was shown on TV2. There's a scene where Patch was reading the following poem to Carin -- then began my discovery of Pablo Neruda. Sonnet XVII Pablo Neruda I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz, or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off. I love you as certain dark things are to be loved, in secret, between the shadow and the soul. I love you as the plant that never blooms but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers; thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance, risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body. I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way than this: where I does not exist, nor you, so close that your hand on my chest is my hand, so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep. |

Oh yes, I remember Patch Adams. That guy (Robin Williams) is hilarious, heard it was based on a true story. Did it win any awards? If it didn't shame on the Oscars or Grammy's. Great movie, definitely a classic in my book.

THANK YOU for having such a great thread about poem here! I would like to share something has been lingering in my mind recently by Pavarotti, the O Sole Mio. However the following english translation/wording seems to be too simple/nothing as compare to those of you have contributed, anyway, i still hope some of you would like it, the youtube video is here:

Triumph of Life
Writer : Caramel aka Myself =p From a child's journey to adulthood, Hurdles in life, are often inevitable, Like an old axe that cuts through wood, Faith in life are falling little by little; The tunnel is ahead, visible from afar, Upon entering, path uncertain and darkness awaits, Haunted by the past and swallowed by fear, Is this where I stop, where my future diminished? Time's ticking, got to get moving, For the sun has yet to set, Failure or success, it matters not, For as long as I try, there's no regret; Don't be disheartened if you can't find the ray, Trust your heart and you will find the way. |
