There's a movie accompanying that poem -- kinda nice too. Just have to google "The Dash poem".. it's beautiful and soothing too.

Massa & Budakjahat: Thank you smile.gif but a small-timer like me dare not be compared to a true poet like Ms. Ellis.

You're all welcome.

I was channel-surfing last night, and Patch Adams was shown on TV2. There's a scene where Patch was reading the following poem to Carin -- then began my discovery of Pablo Neruda.

Sonnet XVII
Pablo Neruda

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

Oh yes, I remember Patch Adams. That guy (Robin Williams) is hilarious, heard it was based on a true story. Did it win any awards? If it didn't shame on the Oscars or Grammy's. Great movie, definitely a classic in my book.

THANK YOU for having such a great thread about poem here! I would like to share something has been lingering in my mind recently by Pavarotti, the O Sole Mio. However the following english translation/wording seems to be too simple/nothing as compare to those of you have contributed, anyway, i still hope some of you would like it, the youtube video is here:
