As anyone had heard before, a book has much intensity than a movie adaptation.
In the graphic novel version of the popular The Ring horror movie, it goes even crazier biggrin.gif
Try reading it alone in a dim lit room at night tongue.gif

An exceptionally great book. I'm at Habit #4 now. Dr. Covey really studies deep into human habits and characteristics. I loved that part: Our Center (Materials centered, family centered, pleasure centered, etc.)

This guy is brilliant.

Anyway, this is my review on...

Title: The Jury
Categories: Legal Thriller
Author: Steve Martini
Language: English

Comments:

I really wished there were more legal thriller novels written in this form, where the courtroom action was intense and brilliant. The argument was being thrown left and right by both sides' attorney, objecting each side and fighting for relativity of each opponent's case.

As the trial continues, facts of the case slowly unfolds. This is the technique of plotting a story in which readers are drawn in, I just find myself reading and reading without wanting to stop.

You know the feeling of wanting to skip a few pages? When the story goes on a slow mode, you wanna skip all the slow crap and move to the interesting parts. This book has no slow mode! smile.gif

This book has some suspense element but because the courtroom action was more intense, the author did the right thing; capitalize on the action, leaving only the suspense towards the end of the book. This is the right play coz towards the end, there were no more court hearings biggrin.gif

Ratings: 7/10

Title: My Sister's Keeper
Category: Fiction
Author: Jodi Picoult
Language: English
Where did you get that material: Bookstore (MPH Midvalley)

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about controversial / 'taboo' topics that most people don't talk about. This book involves genetic engineering and to what ends parents might go to for their child smile.gif There are also courtroom drama scenes in, which I really like (gives you a lot of tension into the book), and a very cool twist at the end wink.gif I really like Jodi Picoult's style of writing, and she almost always provoke interesting questions along the way. smile.gif

Title: I Too Am Malay
Categories: Malaysia > Political/ Biography
Author: Zaid Ibrahim
Language: English
Where you get that material:Booqc.com: I Too Am Malay Booqc.com

here's my review:

Initially, I was sceptical. I expected the worst of them all - about racism, or hatred from one race to another. But interestingly, that wasn't what I read. As I turned the pages, I felt the book becoming more & more interesting.

Sure it talks about the Malay race - a lot. On how it can be helped. But this is not the same like Dr M's book. Instead, it critically views the very special programs set for the Malays in Malaysia.

Zaid believes in metricoracy in Malaysia, in order for the Malay race to stand proud of their own achievements.. and not belitteling them, just because some other people of his race has gotten 'the easier way out' by knowing some big names in politics.

But it's not just the Malays that Zaid wants to help. In this book, he also mentions about helping the other races, and supports a nation where every citizen is treated equal.

Apart from this, Zaid too shares his humble background from being raised in the village in Kelantan, how he struggled as a student, but with his perseverance, determination & vision - eventually manage to build the biggest law firm in South East Asia.

Then he went on to dwell a little bit on Malaysia's system - and how it should be reformed.. these were things that he pushed for as the Law Minister, albeit a short one. Many may know about the happenings in the late 80s & early 90s - but for some, this can be an eye opener too as well as he bring insights on Malaysia's political & judicial challenges then.

It may seem that Zaid is supporting the opposition - especially with him campaigning for PKR today. But, cast that aside and read his book with a neutral standpoint.. and we get a view from a true Malaysian who believes very much in a building the nation.

Truly a book recommended to every citizen who want a better Malaysia.

Title: The Night Angel Trilogy
Categories: Fantasy
Author: Brent Weeks
Language: English
Where you get that material: Borders (Boxed Edition)

The whole trilogy is a gripping read until the end, though the 1st book starts quite slow. All the characters are fleshed out quite well and doesn't shy away from the use of excessive violence since the main character is an assassin after all.

One of the best reads I've come across, this book's a cult classic. Written at a relaxed pace with a real good and tense climatic ending. More importantly, after reading this book you would really look forward to having a good relaxing beach holiday biggrin.gif
