The Perks of Being A Wallflower

What are your thought about this book? I found it a little difficult to finish it, mainly because some parts are a little too draggy for my taste. When i watched the movie after finishing the book, same thing.

I see you finish reading a book really quick ehhh? Must be really into reading books laugh.gif

A question to those who are reading / have read Gone Girl, did you pick up the book because you heard about it following its success in 2012 or were you reading it in anticipation of the Fiincher movie?

Interesting ancedote about the book. I had no intention of reading it at all. Was just going to watch the movie although i did hear that the MY version would be censored. Did not know why because i had no clue about the storyline. I am a big fan of Fincher's though. So then my mom asks to go get me the book the next time i am in a bookstore and i dutifuly do. Before passing it on to her i read the back jacket and it sounded interesting. Then i thought i'd just read a few pages to see what it was about. Now i am 200+ pages in and i cannot let it go. The dilemma i face is should i read the book and find out what happens at the end, and of course spoil the enjoyment of the movie or stop now and watch the movie and then continue reading on where i left off.

The boy in Borders who found a copy of the book for me did mention that he was reading the book after watching the movie as he wasn't sure what was going on, so he wanted to read the book.

So fellow bookies, any comments to my above dillema?

i just started reading this book too, due to the hype that has been going around (am at the mall part in the book)
however, i don't feel the pull or the i-can't-seem-to-put-this-book-down feeling...
the book is great as i enjoy the current-past storytelling style but it seems to be dragging on with little progress at the end of each chapter (drag-drag-drag-something major revealed-NEED TO CONTINUE READING)
i would definitely finish reading the book before watching the movie as books are always 10000x better than the movie.

Well, i finished the Gone Girl book, then watched the movie on Blu-Ray and am glad i did read the book first as the movie does omit some of the parts in the book which isn't really unexpected as adaptations are notoriously difficult. However, given that Gillian Flynn wrote the screenplay herself she would be the best person to trim down the fat so to speak. And my verdict of the book is a mixture between liking it and hating it!
While i like her style of writing, i have gone out and got her first book - Sharp Objects i cannot say that i liked the Gone Girl characters most especially the Nick character. It started off well but 2/3 the way through the storyline changed and i lost interest in it. And by the end it was a relief to just reach the last page!
*
i agree with you on Nick's character, but i bet that is what the author is going for, making him the innocent and a weak character. all the time i was reading the book i was screaming at him, "GET UP AND DO SOMETHING USELESS!"
oh well, thank goodness my troubled times are over...

currently reading 'Eleanor and Park'by Rainbow Rowell.

Finished the night circus by erin morgernstern, high recommended to those who loves to believe in the impossible, very detailed writing, beautifully ended.

Now reading still alice by lisa genova. A story about a woman life, hectic and trying to cope with dementia, and how it affects her and her family.

sad to put The Hobbit book down so fast! Though it is very much less action packed than the movie, it was an easy read for a newbie to Tolkien's writing, i look very much forward in reading his other works.

now reading: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
book 2 coming out soon so time to tackle this book first!

Just finished this today. Reminds me of Reconstructing Amelia (Kimberly McCreight). These young teens really scare me, very unsettling and disturbing is just an understatement.
Recommended if you like thrillers, mystery and if you've read Gone Girl, Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. Of all her 3 books, this debut is my favorite.

i think his Gone Girl, was a brilliant book, a rollercoaster ride, slow pick up dragging up, then suddenly all the sharp turns and 360 flips!

Hi everyone. I never thought lowyat would have a book club section. Happy there is. Never thought I would be back here even.

Anyway, I am currently finishing Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch and will be reading The Good Luck of Right Now by Matthew Quick soon.

I stop reading books for so long, I lost touch what is good in reading (like Love In The Time of Cholera) and I have been just picking books whatever comes my way.

yeah, ditto! i've been looking around for a active bookclub, lucky this thread has been revived!
