QUOTE(spongebobdono @ Nov 28 2021, 09:23 PM) Just finished The Power by Naomi Alderman, about how a newfound ability in women turns the world into matriarchy societies. The book started strong and engaging, but didn't reach its full potential and was at times a tad all over the place. Huh, these 2 titles sound very interesting. But combining the fast-paced writing and told from the perspectives of multiple characters, I think it's an interesting read. Going to start Today a Woman Went Mad in the Supermarket by Hilma Wolitzer. |

QUOTE(spongebobdono @ Nov 29 2021, 03:19 PM) They are! Today a Woman Went Mad in the Supermarket is a collection of short stories that Hilma Wolitzer has written throughout the years. It's been a while since I've read any short stories. I'm only a few stories in and I like the way she writes. you know i have been giving 1 - 3 stars to most books this year. So The Midnight Library actually walked away with 5 stars. I personally love it. I think it is a book that can be relatable for all walks of life.Do you think The Midnight Library is worth a read? I'm thinking that or Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson after this. Snow Crash because it's where the term Metaverse (recently popularised by FB's change of name to Meta) was coined, and it'll be interesting to see how much of what Neal's written almost 30 years ago is still relevant today. Never heard of Snow Crash but I might check it out once I am done with the fanfic obsession phase again. xD |

QUOTE(spongebobdono @ Nov 30 2021, 09:44 AM) Gonna trust you on this, The Midnight Library it is then. I couldn't imagine finishing books that are only 1-3 stars. So many good books, no time to waste on bad ones. fanfic is up to whatever fandom you like. xD I can't tell you specifically good fanfics, it depends on the fandom you want to be in or not.Any good fanfic to recommend? |

QUOTE(spongebobdono @ Dec 4 2021, 02:33 PM) Ah, might explore that some time. Totally new to fanfics. Ended reading Snow Crash now since there's a long wait for The Midnight Library. Surprised at its popularity. Archive of our own(AO3) is your best friend. In fact many authors were actually super popular fanfic writers before some publishers scouted them and signed book deals with them. |

Usually not a fan of biography but i can't put this down.
![]() https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5496811...he-code-breaker Very well written and open up my eyes in the entire RNA research and business. The basis of our current corvid vaccines. And it's also very interesting to learn about how nature works in a molecular level. The only scary thing is that this RNA research is such a NEW research, so new that it's only discovered in the 2000s, and already we are putting human lives to test since covid sorta pushes the timeline. |

QUOTE(JustAskingOnly @ Jan 16 2022, 06:00 PM) Reading Piranesi now. If it's a struggle then move on and give up on that book.At page 51 and it's a struggle. All about dates, places I can't imagine, statue. It's been sometime since I took up a book. Saw it at popular Googles it seems to be a good book. My favourite author says it's 'Miraculous' Wonder if I will finish it..ever. Reading is supposed to be fun, relaxing. |

QUOTE(spongebobdono @ Feb 15 2022, 06:04 PM) Sound good, I'm gonna give that a read. I really enjoyed the Project Hail Mary, even though i have never been a fan of first person pov.Dropped The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave. It was Goodread's Choice Awards 2021's Best Mystery and Thriller category winner, so I thought I would give it a try. Not sure if the story is good, it was just too draggy and had too much flashback that aren't mysterious or thrilling. Tried my best but kept falling asleep. The Midnight Library 6.5/10. Relatable, but writing style draggy and dull at times. Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir 9/10. Might deserve a 10. Learned a lot about space from it. It's memorable, plausible, exciting, and heart-warming, with great pacing. The Guest List by Lucy Foley 7.5/10. Disappointing ending. Caught up on some classics that I should've read in high school: - Lord of the Flies by William Golding 8.5/10 - To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee 9/10 - And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie 9/10 The Guest List i actually gave up. xD Goodreads awards are not very real i feel. A lot of votes are "bought". |

QUOTE(Benaroo @ Feb 22 2022, 10:03 PM) Haystak too big oredi gave up long ago lol. Nvr look bek sins den. I have read a few specific manhwa. Some are good, but like books most are just trashy shonen stuffs that got popular because the tropes suit them. It's also like looking for a needle in a haystack.Sure manga/manhwa dun hav to imagine much but i notis wen artis veri gud dey can describe beter den novel version A few pointers on manhwa: 1) Manhwa plenty of gud 1s but not many hav eng version so wat pipul do is read "pirated" "fan-translated" 1s n den pay ori version jus 2 support author. If u ok wif dat den u hav many choices. If not den hav 2 wait veri long time 2 c official translation if ever. Sum studio relly dun care about international readers, deswai all de pirate translator come in 2) unlike books, all dis dun come complete, u kno loh a lot of artis work, dey onli release chapter by chapter. De golden age of manhwa jus started not veri long ago so a lot not complete. If u onli wan 100% complete den i can onli recommend 'Medical Return' (doctor/reincarnation stori --- comedy+a bit rom+a bit murder, onli bad thing is ending part over extended), n again dis 1 no official eng version yet 3) might need 2 lern a bit of Korean esp. "oppa" "noona" "ajussi" n "ajumma" but of cors if u read a lot eventually u'll understan anywei, dis oso no tqs 2 pirate translator dey dun translat deez terms. Proly a culture preservation thingy. Nowadeys all manhwa colored. Oso many very violent but dem funny. If u ok with 1&2 above den --- I wil assume u like [comedy+light action] so maybe I'll recommend 'The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor' for starters (vr stori, still ongoing) And most importantly, can't take a review/comment/opinion seriously when the person is writing worst than a child. |

QUOTE(spongebobdono @ Feb 23 2022, 07:53 PM) Any manhwa/manga/manhua that you think was really good? I'll just take the needles you found and skip the haystack, lazy me. I'd take seinen over shonen though. if he has time to write it this way, then he should have the time to find the right books in the haystack. lol. Yeah, Benaroo, isn't writing the way you write harder than writing proper? Makes my head spin too. |

QUOTE(TW_tankengine95 @ Aug 10 2022, 12:45 PM) 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami People just like to trash her because she is successful woman. Men don’t get half the shit if they do the same.I didn't know that she has a new book out! Seems that she is always in the news for non-literary related topics nowadays 🤧 TW_tankengine95 liked this post
