is there any difference on the bond duration if a candidate only gets sponsored for PhD overseas and does his master on his own?

I'm an IPTA undergrad myself. from what i see, most of the lecturers in my faculty do not have industry experience too. Some of them knows their stuff well, but their lack of industry experience makes it difficult for students to gain industry insight. This in turn makes student less prepared for working life IMHO.

as a person who is highly educated, why didnt you spend a couple of years in the industry before venturing into academia?
