hi , did you know where your iPhone 3G from ?

**Copy from nokia2003 thread.

Click here for a complete list of all iPhone 3G availability in selected countries (both locked and unlocked).
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937

*hint: always double check the list from the Apple website above against the iPhone 3G Part Numbers (this could be found outside the box or via Settings -> General -> About -> Model) to determine the origin of your iPhone 3G, as there is currently a scam going around the market.*

restoring u mean by reseting the phone? hmm, btw i found out that the iPhone isnt jailbreaked yet, there are no cydia nor installer present, so, it couldn't be yellowsn0w right? as it needs jb-ed iPhone correct?

U have the source saying not all singtel unit are unlocked? Or u mean iPhone from SINGAPORE (the country), purchase from other than the authorized SINGTEL(the telco) retailer could be software unlock?

Don't confuse people ... as far as I know, ALL iPhone offered by SINGTEL are officially unlocked. Only those phone sold at phone shop in SINGAPORE i.e Simlim can or can't be software unlocked.

Like u said its easy .. just confirm the part number and thats it. No need to restore. It will be difficult when people give incorrect information.

p/s - even Apple indicate the phone from SINGTEL are not locked to carrier according to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937

Lol it IS weird, i checked apple support, entered in my serial and my location put as singapore, there is a warranty coverage there, checked the apple site and my part number indicates its from singapore

but after jailbreaking today, couldn't find a signal, the signal only could be found after i installed yellowsn0w rclxub.gif

so, its official unlock set previously or what?

I used quickpwn. Followed the instruction from iClarified, restore official 2.2 firmware using itunes. After restoring, activation msg came out on screen, ignored it, proceed with quickpwn, quickpwn indicates sucess jailbreaked process, iphone rebooted, couldn't detect signal, open cydia and download yellowsn0w, signal detected.

^ is that normal ? lol

Lol, then i guess something was wrong with the restoring with itunes, even though itunes on computer indicate complete restoration, the progress bar was only half on the phone ohmy.gif

Or maybe its something wrong with quickpawn, since i using vista, heard theres some problems with vista side.

Googled return me results like baseband was changed or something rclxub.gif

Maybe thats the problem. You said that on iTunes it said complete restoration but the progress bar was only half on the phone. I'm using vista to JB mine last time so it's not the OS.

What you can do, restore the phone using stock 2.2 firmware, connect to iTunes and let it recognize it first. Then put in your sim card. Does it detect the signal? By right it should if it's an officially unlocked phone. Only after you get the signal then you proceed with the jailbreaking process.

Hope that help. It's not wise to use yellowsn0w on an officially unlocked phone.

Well, frankly, i couldn't get pass the activation screen, and i doubt i will be using the official method of activating it through itunes in malaysia. and since its not activated, i have no idea can it detect the signal or not.

and uhh, any implications to it?

And, could it be because i using a downloaded firmware from US apple site? ( shift click restore )

No wonder. You must activate it first before can use it. Why you don't want to use the official method of activating through iTunes? It's not going to lock the phone if it detect a malaysian sim card or anything.

All firmware are from US apple site. There's no region specific firmware.

Ahh, lol, maybe thats why, but never activated a phone before, not sure hows the procedure works, and.. u sure it didn't involve calling apple up to verify etc? cause i don't know the previous owner who activate plans with singtel etc

iphone activation process only need to key in your detail. Is only a simple process which no need to call apple or otherwise.

Lol, means i can put in my detail? and not the previous owner detail who activated it once before?

EDIT : Lol, its THAT easy to activate? I just restore it recently and let it go on its own, itunes just access the store and after a few minutes, my iPhone is unlocked, proceed with jailbreaking, and now my iPhone is officially unlocked without yellowsn0w ! thumbup.gif
