As title, I'm planning to get a console:

- budget ranging from RM500 ~ RM1000+
- "NOT willing" to b** "original" games
- Don't want Nintendo Wii

*Please state the version/generation that you recommended, along with the market price if possible =)

Emm.. I don't have any consoles yet, why most of you voting for PS2? PS3 is coming out now, will PS2 be outdated very fast?

I checked from Amazon.com, PS2 costs around RM465 from the official stores, and second hand costs around RM214.


Do you guys think is worth to buy a second hand? Since it's half of the new one.

If you havent got PS2, yeah go for it. Still going strong (or probably surviving in the market, i dont know, im not the analysis expert ) but, what i do

know that its has wide range of games selection, some great AAA grade games. Metal Gear Solid series, God of War series, etc. Man talking about these

makes me want to play my ps2 games again. And yeah, u wont have to worry about hardware reliability because just like PS1, it is one solid

hardware unlike one of current generation's.

going original isnt nearly as bad today as it was during the ps2 era.

while those days games more often than not go up to 300 bucks without reason,you can get limited edition versions of today's games at that price.

also you dont have to buy all new releases..you can easily download demos to play

but back on topic: Ps2.
simple reason: cheap,great selection of games,still alive.

I want to recommend PS3 but since you don't want to buy original games, I think PS2 is the best choice. PS2 has enough games to keep you occupied until PS4 comes out

If he wants 360, does he have an LCD tv or monitor. Playing it HD is a must for 360. But with pirated games you can't play online.

Lol.. You can play online if you're smart enough. But ,

1. You can't use the games bought from stores (pirated games) AT ALL!!
2. You need to download your own copy of games online ( i wouldn't recomend public trackers as the games there are sometimes review copies etc. Get it from reputated private trackers)
3. You need to Stealth patch the games before burning them to secure them as to match a retail copy so you can play online without being banned.
4. Never play games early (downloaded games) before their retail release date.

For an average user, you should just stick around with the games you get from stores , and never attempt to go online. If you're knowledgable, willing to learn , and alittle hardworking, you can still go online with a **backup game** . Of course not from the ones sold in store...

For your budget, stick with the PS2. It has loads of titles and so on.

XBOX360 is the best..but be prepared for those lights

I got a 360 Arcade with slightly higher budget.

Make sure you got a Jasper Chipset,
before u go buy your 360 just research how to identify a Jasper 360,
pretty easy.

A Jasper a day, keeps the red lights away.

Maybe h should get a Wii instead, both 360 & PS3 are losers compare to it.

Go for PS2. Wide range of games. Graphics still ok. not that bad. within your budget and you can still borong a lot of games.
if you go for next gen console, its a waste if you don't go ori and online with others.

Don't mod the 360 la,
later got hamtam by MS on live, then Halo 3 & Gears of War 2 not that fun jor....

Asia / JPN 360 punya region lock not very strict, most games from US can play,
so no need to mod it like Wii to bypass lock.

psp can be a good choice....a lots of new game will coming soon....and also xbox 360 but 2hand punya lah...just add another rm200 from ur maximum budget can get jasper ma......

Well.. actually I'm interested in buying a Xbox too, but there is too many questions in my mind:

1) What is Xbox Jasper Chipset? There are so many types of Xbox, they confuse me very much.

3) Is it a must to get Gold Live Membership in order to play online multiplayer? One of my friends told me that most of the retailers are able to bla bla bla and you can play online multiplayer for (free).

4) Is it a must to have LCD to play Xbox?

5) Does Xbox got Final Fantasy (game)?

P/S: 1 more question: Will Microsoft ban my IP address or something else if aware that I'm doing "illegal" act?

1) Jasper Chipset is an overhaul of XBOX chipset. You probably heard of RROD, that was caused by a poorly designed and lousily manufactured Chipset call Xenon. Microsoft released an improved chipset called Falcon that vastly reduced RROD rate. And Jasper chipset "was claimed" to eliminate RROD risk altogether.

2) XBOX need HD for u to save games, download trailer, download games.... etc. If u opted for XBOX 360 Arcade which has no HD, it will gives u a Memory Unit to save games. Yes, u can upgrade the HD or add HD on your 360. But mind u, it is not cheap.

3) Yes, u will need a Gold membership to join multiplayer. Pls dun save on this, coz it is really fun. Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead & Halo 3 are great when u played online. Your friend is probably right, but pls dun do something silly (Bla bla Bla) on your 360, coz MS is good at identifying them and kill them later, and also because it is probably not legal to do so.

4) No. LCD/Plasma is not a requirement, but 360 looks much better on LCD/Plasma. Well, they look pretty decent on an old TV as well. But if u are on Old TV, you might find it difficult to read some of the text on screen, especially Chinese Character.

5) Yes, FF13 is coming to 360. But it will arrive on PS3 first. And also note that 360 has some of the best JRPG library this gen, second only to Nintendo DS.

P/S If u r a Dragon Quest fan, get a Wii instead. Dragon Quest X is going to Wii.

Hahaha, man go for ps2 or xbox 360 arcade set (jasper chipset) cause those 2 console price is the closest to your budget..

1.) Xbox Jasper chipset is the latest chipset that ms release that has 65nm CPU and 65nm GPU wic reduce the possibility of getting the famous RROD.

2.)Xbox need harddrive to save games, music, pictures, or even download games...XD..

4.) IT's better to get a LCD with HD or Full HD features on it so tat you can enjoy the xbox 360 game punya graphics wic is obviously very stunting if compared to ps2, xbox 1st generation, gamecube..bla bla bla..

5.) From what i heard they said got...xbox got FF game but havent release..

Just buy xbox 360 JASPER set. Don't worry it will get RROD cause it claimed that failure rate has been reduced to the minimum.
If u still get it, then u are damn bad luck.

Not recommend to buy last gen console.. PS2, just go with the current gen console, no turning back and u will never regret.

Yes a 16:9 ratio display is a must but an LCD TV, not really. Can still play on the LCD monitor, but that depends on u. For me, if i could afford it, a display

the graphics is just stunning & impressive. No way last gen console can even compare.

Lol dude, that's a different story. I buy the car but I still willing to pay for the fuel because I don't have a second choice, unless there is pirated oil that works absolutely fine and safe, then I will opt for the pirated one. This is same when applying to the "not buy ori" thing, "most" consumers surely go for the lowest cost but still get the same satisfaction thingy.

Rough estimation, I believe 80% of Malaysian buy pirated...

hii everyone..i think better start to stop talking about lanun games or else this thread will be closed..i can see that this thread is quite useful for somebody new..my opinion for TS is that he only can choose xbox 360 based on his preferences (ps2 is out as he seems to look for the new generation)..the main hindrance is his price range.. for all i can see the new xbox 360 arcade is around rm1200 but this package has its own weakness..

first it only has composite cable, (need at least component cable to enjoy the true new generation games better HDMI cable ), 2nd its only one controller (need to add at least another one coz many xbox360 has best coop games such GOW,GOW2, COD5) u cant play online cos u don want ori one (will get banned), 3rd obviously its don hv any hardisk (need it so u can save n install games)

so i think u will need mayb rm100+rm160+rm160 at least for all that..that makes that u need at least rm16xx for u to really enjoy it..my advice get this complete or u regret it its the advantages of xbox360..

or if ur budget is too constrain u can looked at used set (only falcon/jasper)..saw some good deals at our garage sales..btw i hv both ps2 and xbox360..bought wii for my lil bro..so i think the xbox360 suit u perfectly..hope ps3 owners can comment on this thread even though its out of TS preferences...

The three consoles have their strengths and weaknesses, most of which are known only to the people that usually stick to the three console Subforums, and rarely check this specific neck of the woods.

if you are really serious about getting a console, i would suggest going into the 3 sub-forums and having proper discussions with them, rather that putting a blanket question here and expecting useful answers. Thats the kind of homework you should be prepared to do if you're thinking of spending RM1000+ on a machine. Say what you want that is a lot of money.
