that was my understand as well. first they ask me to repair using the CD and pressing R. then when i pressed R nothing happened so i was like nvm la, just reinstall the windows but it go and install another OS. so when i startup. it prompts me asking which OS i want to use. One which opens up to a new Windows and the other which asks me to repair
The new windows still has all the other files intact - documents, program files. but i cant open any programs due to missing dlls and such
