Hello all, just wanted to understand the difference between

Ram at 5-5-5-18 at 1.8V

and

Ram at 5-5-5-15 at 2.2V

currently in bios, the voltage settings is 1.8V, what is the impact of setting the DRAM voltage to 2.2V? will it be faster ? lol

btw i am using kingston hyperx cl5 ram

increasing voltage will lead to higher temps for the ram... but to go from 5-5-5-18 to 5-5-5-15 doesnt require u to change voltage la, so little tightening nonit increase voltage >"<

but understand from the kingston document

Timing Reference: 5-5-5-18 at +1.8V / 5-5-5-15 at +2.2V

it seems like i need to set the voltage to 2.2V before it really can operate on 5-5-5-15 ? right?!?!? tongue.gif

JEDEC specs are as follow for ur ram

800mhz 5-5-5-18 1.8v
1066mhz 5-5-5-15 at 2.2v

u should state wat ram u were using at 1st... well im to be blamed too for not asking u >"<

well jedec says u need 2.2v to operate 5-5-5-15 1066mhz, so follow it biggrin.gif... but u can always try to tighten the timing u know

not consider oced la if didn't adjust the timing but increasing the volt may lead heat / overheating. gd luck.

well the jedec specs says 2.2v on 1066mhz... so if u put 2.2v, thats not considered overclocking, i wouldn't even call it overvolting...

overclocking simply means, ure going OVER the factory specification, and same goes to overvolting

So that is why all the high performance RAM with high clock speed have the heat spreader + fan because they generate more heat? am i correct?

So they are just overclocked RAM with high price? ph34r.gif

no.. higher speed higher v's it consume.... heat sink prevents da ram from getting hotter n u can play longer

forget about tightening ram timing.
its really 2 much time spend, too little gain.

ram timing has very very small effect on gaming performance. u'll only c a little gain in benchmarking..........

most important is capacity, den speed & timing.

notworthy.gif thx all pro for the reply! smile.gif

anyway i have set it to 2.2V tongue.gif, ehm but in the cpu-z it shows like memory.jpg

and in spd shows like spd.jpg

Just curious in SPD, why there isn't any timing at 5-5-5-15 2.2 V? did i got con ?!?!?!....

more over it show max bandwidth is 6400 but what i got is a pc2 8500 ... please advise

In memory its 534.4 X 2 = 1068.8 hmmm so which is correct ?!?!? ...

btw, the ratio is 5:8, understand from google that ratio 1:1 is the best, any idea how to set it to that ratio?

spd will refer to jedec standard la @@...
ur actual frequency and timing will be under memory section...

if u wan put 1:1, make sure the multiplier for ram is 2... lets say ur bus speed 400, then ur ram must be ddr2-800 biggrin.gif

Dude, those ram are costly for a reason
They have better SPD programming, more layers pcb, best chip and bin nicely.
