I think many folks here need to be more hardworking to get what they want. Remember, google is your best buddy. After all, I think a lot of us here who may be what I call more "experienced" found out the hard way too... i.e. research starting with google. For eg. I found out about garmin and all the details by starting with google and then reading forums after forums. It took me a a few days between work to understand everything fully and getting the stuff that I need.
But over here, some pple even lazy to read the very first page!!! Straight away, "How" this and "How" that! For me, its simple, if you want something, you gotta work for it. If you are too lazy, then forget about it. Don't expect to be spoonfed. Like this thread here, no one asking anyone to necessarily read the whole thread from version 1 (altho' you may pick up something extra from doing so). But for god's sake, at least read the damn 1st page of version 5!!!!!
Actually, its all these questions about Garmin and Virtual Key that is getting to me. Please go and do some research! If you are too lazy to do it or no time to do it, then dun use garmin... simple as that. As for the rest of the pple here, yes, point and guide the newbies to the right direction, but dun spoonfeed them thereafter. Guiding and spoonfeeding are 2 different things!

I had an interesting and frustrating experience at the NCC at 1U yesterday.
I sent in my phone to fix the earpiece problem. Ok, went back in 2 hours and it was done. They told me they had replaced (???) the earpiece. Ok, great, new earpiece! Then they asked me to check the phone. So I long pressed "1" on the dialpad to call my voicemail to test the sound from the earpiece. The next thing I know, the phone shut down by itself! I was like, WTF?! I did it again (switch on fone and long press "1") in front of the NCC staff another 3 times, each time the fone shut down by itself.
So they immediately got the technicians to attend to this problem. It took them another 1 hour to fix the problem while I waited there all the time. Finally fixed the problem (the staff told me not sure what technical problem and they had 2 technicians working on it then!). Then I noticed the top right corner of my screen protector was peeled off a bit. Can't stick back properly again. Again, WTF?! But luckily, it was only a very little bit, so i decided to let it go. The staff told me it must have happened when the technician was checking the touch screen. Most importantly, the fone was fixed. Luckily the SP I bought was the Skool one and it only cost me RM18.
Then balik. This morning, took out my fone to give it a good cleaning and wipe down. Then only I noticed another problem, finger marks UNDER the screen. For the third time in 24 hours, "WTF?!" Dem frust! I am gonna go back today and f*** them nicely today.

QUOTE(swteo @ Jan 21 2009, 11:15 AM) yes.. "silent" profile activated and vibrating alert "on" but when incoming call still no vibration.. but in "general" profile i change the ringing to "silent" and vibrating alert "on", incoming call will silent with vibration... Try one more thing... use a default ringtone that came with the fone, then switch to silent profile and test and see. Otherwise, sounds like you have to send the fone in to a NCC to check and fix. What firmware version are you on? You may need to update the firmware. If you are on v10 then should update to v11 firmware and see whether problem still there or not. But remember to do a backup of your fone before you update firmware.

QUOTE(buyou12 @ Jan 21 2009, 12:01 PM) Same thing happened to me. I went back then I noticed that there is black dust inside the screen. In the end, had to DIY to get it out. Very unprofessional. Shld have gone back there to give them a piece of your mind! Really unacceptable standards. After servicing, the phone should be at least like before if not better condition, not create another problem or get it dirtier! Its like taking your car for oil change but the mechanic leaves dirt inside your carberateur or something!

QUOTE(zackloy @ Jan 21 2009, 01:06 PM) Couldn't agree more. Nevertheless, it just goes to illustrate that the service levels in Malaysia for this sort of things have a long way to go to match those in developed countries. My 5800 came back after "replacing" the earpiece with a little indentation in the casing where I think they pried it open, didn't notice it until a couple days ago. After the initial WTF moment, I figured heck with it, there are better things to do than waste time on people that won't change. Some things i can let it slide, like the slight damage to my SP... but some things just irritate the hell out of me.... like fingerprint smudges under the screen! They are supposed to be the pros, man! My principle is: why should i do it myself? If its their fault, they should clean it up to my satisfaction. And if I do it myself, what if I screw it up and end up getting more shit under the screen or damage the casing (if mis-cue)? Then no one to blame but myself. On top of that, I am not sure if the smudge is on the back of the LCD cover or on the LCD itself. I dun wanna mess around wiping the LCD itself. What if I end up scratching it? But if they screw it up, I can demand that they do it again and again until I am satisfied without additional effort from myself (except the complaining part!). And if a part of the phone is damaged due to their fault, I would ask for a replacement part. Our malaysian service culture is like that wan sometimes... if u dun f*** them, they just buat dunno. of course there are great service providers like the Sony Ericsson service centre over at Amcorp mall (Ericserve)... those guys are the best man!

QUOTE(panasonic88 @ Jan 22 2009, 10:13 AM) hehe thanks to you guys reminder, i have double make sure that no dust or finger prints smudges beneath the screen hehe i made another call to test again, the speaker sound is crystal clear~~!!! Good on you Pana! I actually tried to open the front cover to try to clean the smudge underneath the screen myself. Waaaaaaaaahhhhh! Damn difficult man! Honestly, I dunno how you guys did it. I followed the instructions on the 1st page. managed to open left side and right side, but the top and bottom impossible to open for me! Haiiiyaahhh, sked i would damage something so I gave up. In fact, kena micro dents here and there already around the seam. maybe I am just too clumsy.... So in the end still had to go back to the NCC at 1U. Make noise there. Waahh, I think they get very thick skin already by training! Never apologise or anything, just quickly took my phone to the technician. So they cleaned it in 10 mins. But then I noticed still got left over smudges! So I told them job not properly done. So they said, ok, ok, leave ur fone here for 1 hour. So I did. In the end, they told me they have tried their best to clean everything. But the leftover smudges still there! So I told them this cannot be happening.... they consult each other, then told me got good news and bad news. Good news: They are willing to replace the front cover for me (great!). Bad news: No stock now, must wait till next week after CNY (hhaaiiiiiii). Dem sian liao.

I just tried again to open the front cover after so many encouraging postings! This time, success!!! hahaha! I used my finger nails only!
The hardest part to come off were the 2 bottom corners. Had to try just a little bit harder. But when the corners and bottom part came off, there was a loud "PAK" sound! I wuz like, oh shit, did I just break something???!! Tension, tension! But it was ok in the end.
But putting back the front cover is not so easy. Must align everything properly and use a little bit of force then only all the latches went in properly.
Actually, if this fone allows removal of the front cover without screws, after a long while I got a feeling dust will eventually creep unto the actual LCD underneath. The gaps of the seam and around the call buttons are quite big. The seams have a fair bit of "give" or flex and its especially bad at the top right corner where pple complain the light leaks trhough.
With such a big screen, Nokia really should have sealed off the LCD area tightly with screws and proper seals, esp. if the LCD is a soft touchscreen which is extra sensitive to scratches. But of course, this would mean we all kenot DIY without voiding the warranty oledi loh! Haha!
One word of caution, dun get the phone wet in the rain or something. Water may leak in through the gap of the seams of the fone which is not exactly small!

just a question for those who have opened up the front cover.
have you guys actually wiped the actual LCD screen underneath the cover? What cloth did you use? Any advice to avoid unfortunate accidents with the LCD? haha!
Was thinking of buying a good quality brush with an air pump, those kinds used for cleaning camera lenses. Its basically a brush with a balloon/rubber bulb at the other end. When you pump it, air will shoot out of the brush end too. The brush can also be removed also so that you can just use to pump air out only.

QUOTE(panasonic88 @ Jan 22 2009, 02:59 PM) ahh the air pump, i know, is available at camera shop. like this rite, » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « i did not wipe the LCD screen underneath the cover. partly is because i do not have the professional/right tool, partly oso dun wan to mess the things up. i just wipe the outer screen. Yea yea, looks like that! I oso dun dare to actually wipe the LCD screen. Thats why I was thinking of using this kind of brush to clean it instead. Just now, I only could blow blow with my mouth (that sounds wrong..... LOL!) and pick up any dust on it with the stylus, very very gently. But sometimes blow blow sendiri (that sounds wrong too...) won't be so efficient or little bit air liur (yikes! but very very tiny bit larr) might terkena the LCD if you blow very hard. That time you would have to wait for it dry and if got mark, very very gently scrape off with your stylus too. (I know what I just said may be disgusting, but it happens). But didn't you get even a teeny tiny little bit of dust on the LCD?

QUOTE(buyou12 @ Jan 22 2009, 03:11 PM) When I found out that there are a few dark speckle dust, I simply took some toilet rolls and flicked it off (after identifying where it is first of course). Never ever wipe the inside or outside and I think to complete remove it of any dust, it must be done by the professionals. Toilet roll not too good idea as well... it may have tiny dust particles on it or the fibre from the paper may be left on your LCD/screen. Its really rather tricky.... but hopefully the NCC will honour their promise in changing the front cover for me when they have stock. Then that time (hopefully) they will clean everything inside before putting on the new cover. Maybe I will just tell them to give a good cleaning when changing covers anyway.
