Just to add to this discussion, will a match be a whole full campaign?

To everyone else, how long does that take usually (1 whole campaign versus game)? At the end, does the game tally the points from all of the maps in the campaign as well and give a grand total? Does it announce who the winners are?

it has to be a full campaign. coz the winner is determined by the total points. and yes, it does say who wins(total points) after the finale (also shows points after each stage of a campaign).

1 whole campaign versus game normally takes about 1 and half hour to 2 hours. but the time all depends on the AI director as in whether He gives a tank or witch to create more damage or how good the team is (whether they can take the whole team down early in game).
The game can also be cut short by human error such as players misjudging the height of a building and jumping down to instant incap.

Referring to above post, it does not have to be a full campaign. competition can either have full campaign format or individual level format.
But the level will be played twice so that any uneven distribution of zombes can be somewhat avoided.
Team A and B: 1st round A as survivor B as infected, then swap to A infected B survivor. the game is then repeated on a 2nd round with B starting as survivor A infected, then swap to A survivor B infected. the scores will then be added up together to get a total.
this is an example on how to even out the random distribution of the zombie but if there are other ways which i'm not aware of please enlighten me.

Foreign leagues play only 1 section of the entire campaign (EG: No Mercy is divided into The Apartment, The Subway, The Sewers, The Hospital, Rooftop Finale), chosen by competitors.

Thanks for the replies.

So on average a whole match is around 1 and a half to 2 hours. I think for a tournament, that lasts too long for just_a_match. No wonder for international rules they just changed it to one map. With that in mind, I am assuming a match to be from as short as 5 minutes to half an hour depending on the skill level of both teams.

if 1 map per match, somemore it's hard difficulty, let say each team down in approximately 6 mins each, 12 mins total, imagine u just set up your shiny uber gaming gears. After 12 minutes then need to plug out, bla bla bla. Then after waited all teams played for only a few minutes, then u play then need to plug in and all sort of the thing. Just my 2 cents xD

Looking at things, it will most likely be a full campaign. This is because the time it takes to complete a campaign in normal is usually below that period (1 hour) I believe that if both teams are skilled, the game will actually finish faster (probably within 45 minutes) simply because both teams know how to score. (If its too fast, it defeats the purpose)

Generally the auto-score recording mechanism makes things easy to handle, which reduces the down time usually.

Even if they are halted by the infected, it could simply mean they're taking their time to heal up or pick up ammo. Take it as an expert mode campaign time frame. Usually between 1-1.5 hours.

As for the Auto-director in L4D can be disabled and replaced by configs, but that way, most of the spawns and numbers will be the same. The auto-director tends to favor the losing team with spawns (tank particularly) but by removing that, you may lose the suprise factor of the game.

Generally speaking, L4D isn't made for professional gaming, more towards semi-casual to semi-competitive plays.

We want to make it fun, challenging and let people get something out of it in the end smile.gif

E-club is hosting the time challenge, ESPGL will still host the VS compy in march. So don't worry. Join the E-club one, have some fun (you might see us there too) and we'll see you again in March for the VS compy! smile.gif
