Hello everyone,

Hunting zombies lately?

The ESPGL (Electronic Sports Professional Gamers League) Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare council will be responsible for your first Left 4 Dead Tournament.

lol. Is having steam account thinggy compulsory?
*
Nope. All you need is your team. Registration fees paid and ready to kill some zombie players (with their non-player zombie friends). The cafe that hosts the game has 200 cdkeys which are licensed to them. So i doubt it will be an issue.

Lol, there are no cheats in the tourney. Thats just an example on how to train your "zombie" smacking skillz.

Well guys, the tourney should be in feb or march. The Registration fees will depend on the prizes, if the prizes are high, generally there will be a registration fee.

Adv VS mode is playable. Although Survivors may die early, its about who scores the most points. Regardless, you have more chance moving and winning with one or 2 man, rather than an entire team, but that would keep the scores more even and keep the game challenging as is.

When i play with pros on normal VS, they seem to just run through the entire map ignoring the normal zombies. Only stopping to kill during an attack. Otherwise, its just move and shoot with scores sky high, since the survivors are all alive.

In advanced mode, its rare that survivors survive episode 3 or the finale, but scoring there makes it more interesting, since its a hold and attack situation for 5 minutes.

Remember however, its a survival game against human infected players, not the campaign. smile.gif

How bout adding Time Trial mode as well, with additional rewards?
*
We can, depending on what the sponsors are providing.

If the offer is good, we can break some off for a different side event.

here's some advice you can practice on:

Well, in advanced mode, my advice is, stay together as survivors, 1 shotgunner, 2 rifles, 1 sniper.

the shotgunner is always in front, when engaging, crouch so the M16 can fire from behind.
The other M16 watches the back, the sniper taking most of the shots. The shotgunner should melee most of the time.

Some good boomer players will hit you 90% of the time. Generally, what you do in advanced mode is cuddle in a corner with the front members continously meleeing, while the guys at the back fire. In most cases, you can melee all the way, but you wont clear them fast enough before the next infected spawn. Play the game enough and you'll know where versus zombies can spawn. Maps are different in VS and campaigns with certain parts of the map changed.

Close doors behind you. Zombies need to break them before they come in, closing doors behind you is a good tactic to slow down infected players in enclosed spaces.

Always save a molotov for a tank/witch. Engaging a player controlled tank is dangerous and usually ends in horror for the survivors. burn him and run. take pot shots from time to time. You might lose a player but VS mode is about how many can survive or how far you go to score.

Communicate. Telling your ally theres something behind him is always a good thing. He's either your bait or a dead man. So its best to keep him/her alive as bait rather than you being the next target. The more baits you have, the more chance your team will survive together smile.gif

difficulty at normal is enough
*
Ladies and gents, seeing that the input towards the difficulty is leaning heavily to normal, we might just change it. We at ESPGL listen to the public and would like to keep it that way. As for the versions, we would very likely use the most stable. Stable as in connection wise, gameplay wise, etc etc.

The argument of dota using the latest map, i will not argue about it as clearly you don't notice there are 2 segments available for downloads usually in getdota.com (one the most stable/suitable for tournaments, one the latest) Here the link to your dota -> http://getdota.com/

However, seeing that valve themselves are the spearhead to the development of L4D, we will most likely be using the latest versions, which also includes balances in infected characters (boomer cooldowns, spawns, damage etc etc)

Before i jump into any more "conclusions", i would first like to explain why the difficulty was chosen as advanced and not normal.

1. Makes the game faster
2. Although debatable, normal zombies are not as "persuasive" and their numbers are small, compared to an advanced difficulty setting. (check server.cfg if you don't believe me)
3. Far more obstacles = more interesting to view, for the spectators especially. Again, debatable.
4. Camping teams have less chance of winning in advanced, simply because they die faster.
5. Prevention of camping is important, simply because we might not have the time to accomadate 32 teams playing for 2 hours per session.
6. Seeing that an entire episode could last from 45m-1 hour (which is standard to any competitive FPS) each session will only consist of 1 map of all 5 episodes, including the finale. This makes the first 2 easy episodes more important to score, rather than to attempt to complete the finale.
7. TK damage is important. It requires a certain amount of skill to shoot accurately, a large amount of communication to not hit your mate. IF Tking is a big issue in your team, work on it more.
8. Despite being a "fun" tournament, i want the teams that put actual effort in the game to win, not some team to win by some fluke. If indeed Garena teams/players are awesome, i hope to see them in action during this tourney. Skilled players help in promoting this game smile.gif

I have played online many times, have seen hunter jumps do instant kills. Honestly, those who can do that require tremendous skill. If a team has that skill, they deserve to win. Hopefully we can get some good prizes for all of you with some goodies too smile.gif

Brian

Edit : For the lulz if some idiot doesnt get it

Your replies are.. kind of immature.

For someone to say "if you dont have time, dont host", all i can say is "the world does not revolve around you" or perhaps "the world doesn't owe you anything". But lets not talk about that.

Anyway, a friend of mine who is in contact with L4D Devs says that Versus is by default Normal and shouldn't be changeble. With the devs saying this, that pretty much strikes a majority off that list. In newer versions, L4D Versus in any other difficulty besides Normal is considered a bug.
Since a majority of our tests were based on older versions, i believe this shouldnt be a problem once we finalize tourney settings. (this problem has been addressed to the proper "authorities" in regards to advanced mode versus)

Therefore, your normal L4D training will not go to waste it seems. This debate has brought us some good after all smile.gif

Looks like our tourney will be sooner than we thought and it looks like its NORMAL tongue.gif

Regards,

Brian

why not get some support for eClub. they will definitely support games like L4D.

Well, we have to go to them either way, they're the license holders.

No one can run a valve related game tournament without going through them in Malaysia smile.gif

Unless u wanna get sued ler.

Looking at things, it will most likely be a full campaign. This is because the time it takes to complete a campaign in normal is usually below that period (1 hour) I believe that if both teams are skilled, the game will actually finish faster (probably within 45 minutes) simply because both teams know how to score. (If its too fast, it defeats the purpose)

Generally the auto-score recording mechanism makes things easy to handle, which reduces the down time usually.

Even if they are halted by the infected, it could simply mean they're taking their time to heal up or pick up ammo. Take it as an expert mode campaign time frame. Usually between 1-1.5 hours.

As for the Auto-director in L4D can be disabled and replaced by configs, but that way, most of the spawns and numbers will be the same. The auto-director tends to favor the losing team with spawns (tank particularly) but by removing that, you may lose the suprise factor of the game.

Generally speaking, L4D isn't made for professional gaming, more towards semi-casual to semi-competitive plays.

We want to make it fun, challenging and let people get something out of it in the end smile.gif

E-club is hosting the time challenge, ESPGL will still host the VS compy in march. So don't worry. Join the E-club one, have some fun (you might see us there too) and we'll see you again in March for the VS compy! smile.gif

haha, we may use pro extreme for L4D. Since the design of the place is pretty much suitable for L4d. 4 pc's all around.
