QUOTE(Fyrekat @ Feb 3 2009, 09:00 AM) This is nuts. We've bought him at the beginning of the season for 20M and halfway thru we've sold him back for 12M + add-ons? The financial loss on this deal is one thing, but we didn't even bring in anyone to replace Keane! And if (touchwood) Torres gets injured or just tired due to the many fixtures we're playing, who are we going to count on to play up top? Reading RAWK, a fair lot seem to be glad he's left.Yes, we have Kuyt and N'gog but neither of them are more convincing than Keane. Babel to play as striker? If that's the plan, shouldn't we have been grooming him for that role instead of using N'gog? Maybe Rafa was impressed by Everton's performances without any recognised striker and wants to play Stevie as a makeshift forward. This is just nuts. |

QUOTE(Monstar @ Feb 3 2009, 10:47 PM) The biggest difference is Keane is 29 this year. And it wasn't 7 million. More around the region of 3-4 million. And it doesn't matter how much we bought him for. Its a sunk cost. So what if we kept him for another 6 months and have him sitting in the stands? Paying someone wages to sit in the stand its not exactly the best bit of business. The issue here is, Rafa does not rate him. Don't ask me why. I don't get to watch Keane train and what not. You wouldn't call wages for him as sunk cost. Think of it as an insurance policy if Torres were injured. But just one question, okay Keane wasn't Benitez' choice but do you honestly think that Benitez gave Keane a chance at Liverpool? Because every time Keane finds some form, he's placed in cold storage. He gets game but performs abysmally - due to a lack of playing time and is taken off. I mean, have you seen Tevez coming off the bench without playing any games? He looks rubbish as well but look what a run of games has done for him? And you wouldn't want to know what is happening in Anfield's boardroom now. Its just a mess. The only reason we got Keane is because Clown Parry didn't want to pay 18m for Barry. Yet he was convinced that Keane was worth 20m. And don't even start with the owners. Don't even start.... Fooking yankie doodle shiatfaces. Its a miracle that we are still challenging with the amount of shit being thrown around.... I would have preferred Benitez to accept him into his plans and gave the lad a chance. As of now, Benitez seems to be using Keane as a politcial puppet. For me, Benitez is having a field day trying to make Keane looking absolute rubbish so he could go on and use this to his advantage in his contract negotiations with the fans behind him. Out of curiosity, doesn't just apply to Benitez but if managers say that certain players aren't their signings in the first place. Why not call the player so and so and say, "You aren't my signing, my club brought you here and I don't think you'd fit into my plans....." *Conspiracy theorist* This post has been edited by kobe8byrant: Feb 4 2009, 01:13 AM |

QUOTE(Monstar @ Feb 4 2009, 03:51 AM) I think Rafa gave him his chance. Yes, Rafa could have been more accommodating but Keane is 29 this year and came with a reputation as a proven League player. And Rafa is not going to change his philosophy and tactics just to accommodate 1 player. My word, do managers ever think of resale value when buying players? I mean, with the exception of Arsene Wenger. If so, impose a cap on players above 26.And I doubt Rafa would intentionally make Keane look bad just to strengthen his bargaining power. I don't buy it. That would directly affect the welfare of the club. You could doubt his tactics and policies but I think its fair to say that he has proven that he loves Liverpool. And for him to do something to jeopardise our chances? I think it is highly unlikely. On another note, I do think that Keane was part of Rafa plans. But definitely not his plan A. I think Keane is more along the lines of plan C or D. And Rafa probably expected Keane to be able to fit in into Liverpool's formation or be willing to play second fiddle all season. And I don't think Rafa wanted to pay that much for him. The issue with this whole saga is, Keane cost us 20.3M. IF he cost us around 10M I doubt Rafa would let him go. Because this 20M has serious implications on this coming summers transfer budget so Rafa is trying to salvage as much as he could for the next window. I think he just did. Whenever Keane played well, he was taken off for a few games and placed back on only after a few games when he's cold again. |
