The Intel® Chipset Device Software installs Windows INF files to the target system. These files outline to the operating system how to configure the Intel® chipset components in order to ensure that the following features function properly:
- Core PCI and ISAPNP Services - PCIe Support - IDE/ATA33/ATA66/ATA100 Storage Support - SATA Storage Support - USB Support - Identification of Intel® Chipset Components in the Device Manager

this software runs on ALL Intel chipset-based motherboards.
fyi, every single components that you see in Device Manager has its own unique Hardware ID + Vendor ID. So, there won't be any conflicts.
this software is very safe to use.

this is not a software per se, but a collection of drivers for Intel-related devices on any Intel-based chipsets/boards. The version number is only for the package itself and each individual devices have its own version number. http://downloadmirror.intel.com/16026/ENG/readme.txtread point 10: "The version numbers displayed by Device Manager for a given device may not be the same as the Intel® Chipset Device Software version."

And the installation is very fast, too fast.is it normal? fast = not needed (presumably you've used the previous versions) .... usually, it's a one-time installation .. unless you're using fresh-from-the-oven chipset, you wouldn't need to keep on installing this utility everytime a new version is out
