Well the thing with normal gathering is, even though the individual is present, they may neve get a chance to introduce themselves or talk about themselves as much as another person.
A speed date gives everyone equal opportunity to intro themselves. Here is how things work. u are given a list of the people of the opposite sex. A line is formed corresponding to the names on the list. each one is given 2-3 minutes each to talk about themselves afterwhich they move down the line. Once everyone has gotten a chance to share, they will tick names on the list of whom they might be attracted to. this list will be compared with everyone else of the opposite sex. If the feeling is mutual, u get phone numbers so u may continue to pursue that relationship. Simple as that. Fair and safe.

yeah but gathering not regulated like speed dating. In gatherings u will see some ppl standing in one corner not wanting to socialize or only socialize with a certain group of ppl.
With speed dating this gives equal opportunity to everyone to converse and share a little about themselves.
Actually, if all think there might be a better way of doing this, can share here.

I think the difference is to hamsup with style or hamsup without style.
Hamsup is one thing la, but there is oso hamsup while showing respect for the opposite sex.
