There is a global Tern Verge Frame recall notice just out last month.. just check your Tern Verge whether it is affected or not. If it is, just fill out a form to get your frame replaced. In the meantime, you are advised NOT to use your Tern !! ..

Yes, the place to check your Tern is at the bottom of the frame with a 8 character alphanumeric code. key in the code in the following form.. to find out if it is affected. If it is, you can get a FREE frame!! http://www.ternbicycles.com/support/notice/13/05

But a question is whether other brands actually have the integrity to perform a global recall or not, which will incur high costs to execute... I would trust Tern more after this.

I think I am going to get the Tern X20... so fast and furious But lots of moolah!, perhaps the Tern X10 then.... 40km/hour is not a problem, heh heh, of course, that guy is a strong guy and the weather is just so cooling.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J40tuS7IUnEBut cycling to work in Malaysia? Perhaps not, but it would be nice if its just a 5 km ride around PJ or a small town to go to work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbXa5wREMy4But then again, cycling to work could just "SAVE" your life!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4nSo3uTOEE

QUOTE(NasiLemakMan @ Jun 4 2013, 09:33 PM) I cycled to work in KL. 5 km each way. It's awesome! You just have to be smart. I'll avoid major roads where cars go above 60 km/h. Closest to an accident was when a pedestrian crosses without using the zebra crossings. He came out of nowhere between stopped cars and didn't look both ways to cross. On the contrary, I believe cycling lanes in KL if made are more dangerous. Just like what happens to motorcycle lanes. Kudos to you! Way to go, man. Leading by example. But really how many people would cycle to work in KL is what I would like to know. Seems like people are rushing to work in the mornings So I am just thinking out how I can reach KL in the morning by LRT, with a foldable bike, which will avoid me arriving in the office full of sweat, and cycling home to PJ about 12km in the late evening or night riding. Probably I will use the quiet roads in housing areas, and even go through Univ Malaya, if the security let me through.

QUOTE(H2D @ Jun 4 2013, 10:33 PM) i think they dun allow bikes during rush hour on LRT, unless u conceal it nicely, something a brompton can do very well... or those tiny weeny wheelers.... Yes, that is right. I think if I were to get on about 8:45am to reach about 9:10am, shld be ok. And there is that bag to wrap the whole bike making it very neat and clean. They probably won't even suspect its a bike. see=> cost about RM80 from a PJ shop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LSsoqb1-N4This post has been edited by budgee: Jun 4 2013, 10:38 PM

QUOTE(etigge @ Jun 4 2013, 10:49 PM) This bag is listed RM199 in Rodalink. I don't think you can get it for RM80. MBS in BAndar Utama still has 2 in stock! I have 2 of them and one word of caution though. If your crank is without the chain guard, like mine is double chainring, careful when you slip on the covers as it might shread it, if it bites onto the chainring cogs! Wow, that's pricey !! But saw the promo just over.. RM72 !! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=535...&type=1&theater

QUOTE(etigge @ Jun 4 2013, 10:50 PM) Actually Banglas have been riding those China made bikes to work all the time. If they can, I don't see how we can't! Hahaha. I normally see them heaving and huffing... they are tough people already with the kind of work they can withstand. Me, just office worker, how lah?

Have to think about that too, if I put it in the car boot.

Shah Alam has provided cycling lanes, with bike rack to lock up as well... first steps towards a full fledged cycling community for both adults and children, leading to better health and environmental protection. http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file...132&sec=central

QUOTE(mockbain @ Jun 5 2013, 05:43 PM) Ditto. I cycle to work too whenever I can, 15km from Kepong to Bangsar. It's a great feeling going to work in the morning with the cool morning breeze and all. Less so when coming back home in the evening, the traffic is bad & the humidity makes it a not so enjoyable experience. Packed my office attire in my backpack and take a quick shower once I reach the office. At first it is a hassle, but you'll get use to it over a period time. Wow, that's quite a distance! You must leave home early in the morning then to avoid heavy traffic on the major roads. There could be a lot of hill climbing on your way to work too. Did you spend a lot on your bike?

Went all over bike shops. Tern X10 is not available at all until next year. So decided to look at other models, and finalized on a Tern verge P18.
Will try to slowly build strength so that I can go for long rides.

QUOTE(hanjo55 @ Jun 10 2013, 06:47 PM) All as in including Roda Bangsar? When I called Botanic last time, they said Bangsar still have 1 unit. You mean they had one more unit of Tern Verge X10 left? Was it very long ago? No, I really went everywhere, called up and asked, no luck, no more new Tern X10s in the country. Only can buy second hand if anyone wants to sell. I did see one demo unit in Vans around the end of May last mth, but I checked the frame and it was one that is affected by the global frame recall. So no point me buying it and then chuck it one side in the house because Tern insisted that you do NOT use it until you get a frame replacement.

I can now appreciate how much technology has been used to build the foldable bikes. I really enjoy riding bikes once again!
I was only riding occasionally a small children steel bike, 26 inch wheels, but its frame is heavy, gears are hard to change, brakes are dodgy, but bought for about RM 180 in 2001.
I now can see a vast difference with my new Tern. Just now went for a night ride and almost crashed in the dark, as I went over a large rock and with small front wheel, it can be disastrous.
Somemore got chased by a dog.... Dammm, I jumped off and put the bike between the dog and me, slowly it backed off as I shouted loudly and slowly walked away.. ... Gonna bring a hockey stick next time!
And because the front brakes are on the left handle, I almost lost control during hard braking! I used to ride motorbikes before and have always controlled the front brakes on the right side. Time to take it slow and relearn all these. Or I could switch the brakes the "right" way!!
One thing is that the bike can go quite fast on level roads.. I suppose its the way foldables are built, small wheels, and the technology that goes into it.
What I need now is a right mirror and a if I can find one, a helmet with a visor. The dust really gets to my eyes..

QUOTE(etigge @ Jun 11 2013, 05:14 AM) You can find rear mirror. Brands like Zefal makes them. Either they slot into the handle bar's grip ends or some onto your helmet. As for bicycle helmet with visor, the latest Giro design incorporates a visor and the visor is made by Zeiss opticals. This helmet is really suitable for riders with glasses. Check it out, They already started importing it in BBS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWwFjuiPX8kThanks a lot!. I am finding out that I love the bike more and more, the gearing really helps me to climb hilly areas with the 18 speed. In fact, I would now prefer this to the Tern X10 which only has 10 speeds, although I don't doubt the bike's ability to have low gearing to climb hills. Nevertheless, the P18 is what I would want in a bike for all road situations. In addition, its a lot cheaper because of the lower speced wheels, derailleurs, crankset, but I don't mind as the weight is not all that significantly heavier ( 11.5kg to 9.7kg). With the savings, I can plunk in a nicer set of pedals, a rack at the back, a mirror, and have some extra for a nice back pack to carry my drinks and clothing change.

Rodalink is now having their mid year sale. Went their Bangsar branch to have a look. Looking for any accessories that I could use.
But the sale is not like the one at Van's Urban where you could get 50% off certain Tern accessories, where I got the Tern Carry on cover.
I think their Botanic Garden branch would have a lot more things to see and intend to visit it this weekend.

QUOTE(id192313 @ Jun 11 2013, 06:56 PM) I'm looking for my for my first foldie and right now in a dilemma. Been thinking of getting a Tern D8 but when I went to GW bike shop, they are selling Tern C7 upgraded to 8 speed for RM1600. Is it worth it to get C7 instead of D8 since it sell for RM1800. Please advise. I would go for the D8 at RM1800. The frame joints and handlepost which are different. http://www.ternbicycles.com/bikes/link-d8http://www.ternbicycles.com/bikes/link-c7
