I was wondering a windows xp 64bit can support up to how much ram?
Would I need the extra RAM supported in the 64bit to play World of Warcraft to achieve greater performance/much higher fps 100+?

vista 64-bit would be less troublesome than xp 64-bit from what i read
and what so bad about vista? i have asked in so many threads but nobody seems to care to provide any rigid answer for it
for gaming, even 4GB is considered enough already, what's important are the 3D card and processor

Vista x64... hmm

Home Basic - 8GB
Home Premium - 12GB
Business - 16GB
Enterprise/Ultimate - 128GB or more

enough for u???

anyway, Windows limit each program can use at most 2GB RAM only...

it's only a virtual memory limit.
to change the limit, go to the boot loader (boot.ini) and add "/3GB" at the end of the partition path for example if i wan to change the limit up to 3GB.

usually, a typical application will not used up to 2GB memory.

in my opinion, for gaming, i prefer vista still. coz 1 reason: directX10. ntg much. if u only play new games, of coz use 64 bits, it does loads faster in real life application.but most consumer motherboard only limit u to 8gb-16gb ram nowadays.even 4gb ram sticks i cant find yet.so if X58 chipset core i7,max ram tht can be bought NOW shud be 2gb(per stick) X 6 sticks( 6 memory slots)=12 gb.32 bits OS max limit 3.5gb, 64bits OS can fit till terabytes of memory in theory.

Frame rates depends more on ur GPU and CPU regardless of bits in the O/S. Having more RAM is not going to help you achieve insane frame rates if ur main factor (CPU + GPU) sucks. I suggest u save ur money to upgrade those first.

btw..why do u need 100fps?? 60 fps enuff already-lar...

If not mistaken, last time a fellow forummer did a comparison of 2X 1GB/4X 1GB/2 X2GB of DDRII 800MHz Kingston HyperX Performance RAMs but there's no difference in frame rates. doh.gif

with 64 bit OS..
actually we got

2^64 byte of rams..
=
18446744073709551616 KB

once before with 16bit OS we stuck in
2^16
=65536 KB or 64MB laugh.gif
