Me too hope this thread will remains.. smile.gif
So this problem is hardware related?
Will it be another reason for Nokia to keep on delaying the date they launch Nokia 5800?
It was expected to be launched way before Dec 2008.
*
If they delay to fix such problem..why the owners now are facing such issues?
Its a very simple issue that Nokia missed...
there are few solutions online..some claim that it worked..but the ways are actually contradicting... hmm.gif

I have re-open the original thread by visionew and merged it with the revival thread created by Razr.

I realise the importance of the topic for creating awareness among user and potential buyer too. And such topic usually will generate very worthy discussion as well for such a popular hot-cake phone.

I apologise on behalf of the mod team for closing the thread earlier.

combined pulak...

seriously..can u guys assign that MOD to be in charge of kopitiam? his efficiency can make a big difference in kopitiam..really.

Stuff are like these are done at moderator's discretion, FYI, there arent strict guidelines for stuff like these. If you disagree, u can always PM the moderator who did what (in this case me) and argue your point, and i would gladly work together with you. There's no need for sarcasm. if u have a problem with me, so be it. now do stick to the topic on hand. thank you.

u got me all wrong man..

Got another problem...

"Walao eh, found out another defect just now.

Was listening to Oasis thru the stock headset, then my fren called, I cant lower the volume!!!! Not thru the remote and phone itself.

Aiseh.. Nokia service centre, please take note!!!"

this is a quote from Demitri from the 5800 v3 thread...

this a a very new phone, and fyi nokia hasn't made a touchscreen phone for quite some time.. some reports screen having permanent horizontal lines, screen becoming dim, etc..

nobody can safely say there's no major hardware defect as nobody has used it more than 2-3 months or more.

the earpiece prob also happened after a few days and for some after a few weeks using the phone..maybe in 1-2 months more there could be another prob. we can't really be sure..
*
its a waiting game...wait for them to fix those issues...then only potential users are safe to buy one..

QUOTE(guest321 @ Jan 7 2009, 09:05 AM)
i think this thread title is misleading.
it's not the phone has problem so the phone is selling off cheaply.  blink.gif

Selling cheaply obviously got no relation with the phone problem.
*
just his opinion..he didnt state its 100% true..i bet readers can judge it themselves...

QUOTE(tunertoobe @ Jan 7 2009, 12:09 PM)
Wow, pretty easy.
But I wouldn't do this very early though.  sweat.gif  I'm pretty brave at fixing mechanicals, but electronics, not so. Electronics are still too "magical" for me.  laugh.gif
*
YES its easy..but read back my post on page 1..

there are 3 different ways to fix it... which one is the correct one then?
do u wanna take the risk?

BAD REVIEWS from Gsmarena.com.

Main disadvantages:

* Limited 3rd party software availability
* UI is still immature with somewhat dodgy user experience
* Touchscreen sensitivity not the best in the class
* No smart dialing
* Poor image quality and no GPS geotagging
* No voice-guided navigation license
* No office document editing out-of-the-box
* Doesn't charge off microUSB

QUOTE
Anyway, the exterior gives a nice sturdy impression, which however is ruined by the almost constant unwelcome creaks by the rear cover - the Nokia 5800 looks and feels more like a wobbly slider than a monolith block.

QUOTE
Unfortunatelly the legibility of the display under direct sunlight is rather poor.

QUOTE
Nokia 5800 XpressMusic uses a resistive touchscreen as opposed to the capacitive displays in devices like LG Prada and Apple iPhone 3G. This means there's a need for a bit of extra pressure to the screen for a click to be registered.

QUOTE
At this stage we're not looking at an elaborate touch interface but the first stages of touch-optimizing an existing UI. S60 is more of a curse than a blessing at this point. Honestly, at times we felt as if Nokia is using all 5800 users as a giant focus group to test out various elements of their new interface - try this scrolling and that scrolling - which one do you prefer?
QUOTE
the interface is obviously immature and the touch implementation inconsistent. The great asset - which could prove vital in the long run - is the familiarity, predictability and comfort of the original S60.

QUOTE
In fact, we can't help but notice Nokia 5800 fails to make the best use of the screen estate that's available.

QUOTE
The picture quality of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is our main concern though. It falls well below the average performance of the 3MP cameras. The images look bad even on the portable screen itself let alone on a desktop computer
QUOTE
Thumb scrolling is an option everywhere but in listed menus it gets really bumpy. Instead of a smooth roll in response to every sweep (think Apple iPhone, LG Renoir, Samsung Pixon or Touch Diamond), there's a notable break as each line slowly revolves up or down.

QUOTE
The main disadvantage of the Symbian 5th edition to competitors is its inconsistency. It uses one click here and double click there, you can flip through photos with finger sweeps but not SMS and emails - this whole thing is rather confusing, and annoying.

QUOTE
OK then, what we have here is two newbies in the touchscreen league. A fact's a fact, but it's not exactly the kind of newbies everyone will look down at. Market leaders Nokia and the top selling smartphone platform

QUOTE
introducing a mid-range handset to debut the touch-enabled S60 sure looks a smart move. It lowers the expectations (flaws are less of an issue) and makes sure the platform sells well so that it can build up a wider user and developer base. And once it has enough reach - and testing time - the real flagship descends to reap the benefits.

QUOTE
For an even more effective camouflage, there goes the XpressMusic branding[cool.gif. And Nokia have done well to eclipse potential touch UI glitches with the best audio quality the house has pulled off to date.

QUOTE
Sure you get an interface that's immature, inconsistent and quite clumsy but the package you get for that kind of cash is a bargain and even Nokia's sworn enemies admit that.

QUOTE
And you can bet that there's a bargain at the other end too. Nokia's gain is feedback on its new Touch UI. We just hope that feedback gets smartly used.
