guys, i was given some shirts and although the shoulder seams are aligned well with mine, the sides (around tummy area) are rather large and I need to get it smaller to have a proper fit.

can tailors do these types of altering? what are these types of altering called?

by sides i mean the cloth under my sleeves are too wide and it looks like my tummy area is very big. i need to trim the cloth down.

the design on the clothes are stripes and checkered, respectively.
