anyone can register to sit for muet.......

it is mandated by the min. of higher education that all courses in msia, both ipta and ipts needs muet to complete......you don't need to have it to enter, but you need to have a muet score to graduate.......and for some uni, as along as you sit for it, even if you got a score of band 1, you can graduate.....

some unis and courses do have minimum muet requirements, but since it is NOT compulsory to process one at entry, they will accept other evidence of english proficiency like 1119 or even spm........

most foreign unis will insist on a more consistent and internationally accepted test like ielts........\

it is relatively easy to get the middle scores, band 3-5 is a very big band.......and it is relatively difficult to get band 6.........there are many instances of students who have achieved ielts 8.5 or 9.0 (native speaker level) getting band 5.....the reason is the marking is somewhat rigid and fixed (just like the usual msian exams like moral in spm)......you can be marked wrong if you give an answer not in the 'right answer list'.......even if you are right....... biggrin.gif

like said many times by various people, muet is needed to graduate from msian unis, but not necessary for admission......whether any unis puts mandatory muet band requirements for admission selection i am not aware, but i know ipta admits all, and provides remedial classes........

like i said, nobody, not even the ipta, takes muet seriously......

actually, a significant portion of msian society would quite willingly dispense with english completely.........it's after all, something 'asing'........

Sorry for dint explain it properly. Several courses do need you pass your MUET with any band(the minimum requirement), except those high level courses.(I forgot what courses do need to such high requirement) So the band 6 really important for entering U? I'm emphasize on moderation, my MUET result is band 4 only rclxm9.gif

that i suppose, is an example of how low the standard of muet exam is........ blush.gif

there is a schizophrenic treatment of english by the msian education authorities........

on one hand, they want to improve the language abilities of ipta students........the poor levels of english and the unemployability of some of these graduates are legendary.......

on the other hand, they view english with suspicion, that it will sideline bm.......and certainly makes no effort to enforce minimal english requirements lest it disadvantages a certain section of msian student population........

so they make an exam called muet, supposedly modeled after ielts.......making it compulsory to take in order to graduate.......and accepts band 1 as adequate.......

go figure.......

like i said so many times, english is NOT an important requirement in many msian unis........in fact, if some nationalistic ngo's have their ways, they will ban the use of english in msia.......unsur unsur asing mah.......menjejaskan ketuanan bahasa melayu.......
