generally,
classical uses 3 nylon + 3 string wounded with metal thread acoustic uses 6 steel strings classical got wider fretboard, so its easier to play, but need to stretch. acoustic, vice versa. classical is usually used for plucking, and playing classical songs. acoustic is usually used for strumming. both can do those anyway. acoustic got brighter n louder sound due to steel strings. classical, vice versa. for me, classical is better for beginner, as its easier to 'press', it wont hurt, and ur finger wont grow 'thick skin'. Correct me if i'm wrong. |

for beginners, these are the essentials for basic guitar lessons:
1. common chords (C, Am, F, G, Dm etc) 2. tablature reading 3. strumming and picking methods - need lots of practise next proceed to play some scales to improve your solo skills....... |

QUOTE(yan5619 @ Dec 31 2008, 01:15 AM) generally, Agree with what you had said there. classical uses 3 nylon + 3 string wounded with metal thread acoustic uses 6 steel strings classical got wider fretboard, so its easier to play, but need to stretch. acoustic, vice versa. classical is usually used for plucking, and playing classical songs. acoustic is usually used for strumming. both can do those anyway. acoustic got brighter n louder sound due to steel strings. classical, vice versa. for me, classical is better for beginner, as its easier to 'press', it wont hurt, and ur finger wont grow 'thick skin'. Correct me if i'm wrong. It actually depends on your interest in playing which guitar. For me, I learned how to play using an acoustic guitar. Your finger tips will start to 'sore' a little in the beggining but you will get used to it the way I do. If you are into acoustic, get a good guitar like mine. Yamaha F310P, suitable for all ages and with good strings like DeCaprio, you will be satisfied by how clear the treble and bass. The key to learning guitar is keep practising. |

Classical = More to plucking. (I like plucking... Hehe...)
Acoustic = More to strumming... |

Also, Classical can take exams and get paper. Steel string Acoustics usually dun have exam one.
Also, I think it is much easier to learn steel strings than classical by yourself...seeing my bro take classical guitar lessons like damn complicated liddat ( thumb + 4 fingers also used) |

QUOTE(yan5619 @ Jan 1 2009, 03:47 PM) IMO, classical. Actually you can do that in acoustic also.Classical u can do plucking, love songs and classical etc.. So u can perform and show off around~hehe To me there's not many difference between acoustic and classical. It all boils down to which you like most. Trust me, you'll grow 'thick skin' even if you're playing classical. |

here is something which will be quite useful.
if u plan to take the guitar and sing and play along with it, then use the acoustic. Cause with the acoustic, u can play any song and sing along with friends and family. Whereby the classical is a plucking instrument. is not much of a sing-along instrument n requires much more learning. eg. this is what you play with classical guitar And this what you do with a acoustic guitar. Depending on what you plan to play, you pick one of them. IF u wan to play n sing alonng with friends, learn the acoustic. If u want to play solo melody, then learn the classical. BUT NOTE THIS, if u know how to play CLASSICAL, you can play acoustic. cause acoustic basic consist of strumming+chords, you can play acoustic eventhou you learn classical. I learn the classical for 1 year, and then stop =D I can play both anyway without learning acoustic, it came naturally=.=" This post has been edited by BelowAverage: Jan 1 2009, 06:20 PM |

QUOTE(xcen @ Jan 1 2009, 03:51 PM) Actually you can do that in acoustic also. Hmm, there's a word for 'thick skin' rite? mind to enlighten me? To me there's not many difference between acoustic and classical. It all boils down to which you like most. Trust me, you'll grow 'thick skin' even if you're playing classical. Well as i'm a beginner, i've tried to 'feel' and touch acoustic, classical and electric~ For me, the steel string of acoustic and electric hurts, while classical, it's better. And my personal preference is classical because of the wider fretboard, i tend to make less mistake.
