I have decided to run Vista X64 as I want to fully utilize my 4GB rclxms.gif . Have anyone here used Vista X64 for gaming and what is their opinion. For me it feels slightly faster or the same as XP or Vista 32 bit.

Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
3600.0 MHz (9.0 x 400.0 MHz)
4GB DDR2
Gainward 4870 1GB GS

i installed it on my laptop.

but so far most of my apps n games are installing into x86 folders. so don't really see the point.

gamming wise, i find it to be more or less the same as XP

sorry, forgot to put my specs tongue.gif

Proc : 2.53Ghz IntelĀ® P9500 45nm "Montevina" C 6Mb L2 Cache
RAM: 4096 MB DDR3 1066MHz Dual Chan (2 SODIMMS)
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512MB DDR3

Personally I find the X64 much more responsive and efficient compared to the X32 vista.

Here's my specs:
Intel C2d Quad Q6600 @ 2.40Ghz
MSI 8800 GTS 320mb
2x2GB Kingston HyperX 800Mhz
Creative SB Live! 24bit External

So far, games wise, so good. I have CS: Condition Zero, War3: Frozen Throne, NWN2 + MotB + SoZ, COD4, COD5, Crysis + Crysis:Warhead, Quake4 and Rappelz installed and all ran without problems. I only had a problem with one of Tom Clancy's games, but I can't remember which title. It just wouldn't install. The others games I mentioned above ran without a glitch, and maybe it's just me and the x64 placebo effect, I feel that the x64 actually outperforms the x32 is most of the games.

Bro, I've got a question, may I know what brand and model is your laptop? drool.gif Also, I've tried a lot of games in 64-Bit OS (Vista) but there's no performance game, well maybe that's further contributed by the fact that all my games (which I don't play but install) are 32-Bit.

Tried running GTA IV at 1680 1050. All settings maxed out with only shadows at 8, much smoother from XP 32 bit or Vista 32 bit rclxms.gif . No stuttering at all. Benchmark at 47 FPS.

You might want to upgrade your GPU to at least a 4850. You can play all those games at almost max settings.

im using x64 since june 2008. no problem at gaming at all. and im hardcore gaming.. game without 64 bit functionality, will be install to x86 folder to make it compatible.

my humble spec :

Intel QX6800
6GB DDR2
ATI HD4870

imo, the things you should care when installing x64, run all updates, include windows update, hotfix, driver, display card driver. I would say gaming in 64bit vista really impressive than x86.

i've tried all max out crysis & crysis warhead , my ram took almost 3.8GB ram usage (when im using 4GB ram) now im add another 2GB, im running fine with crysis.. no more virtual memory low appear at taskbar.

that's all. smile.gif im prefer x64 than x86, im gaming & also do editing

Are you using pirated games? AFAIK, if you install the games and cra*k them, the cra*k may disable the game from launching.

DirectX files are not downloadable automatically using Windows Update, you have to manually download the latest redistributable from Microsoft website. And no, it's not really integrated with service pack.

DirectX 10.1 sure already comes with service pack, but what I meant is that the updated redistributable is not. The whatever-version-of-DX10.1 that comes with SP1 is old and you'll need to periodically update your DirectX files over the internet or when you're installing latest games. The redistributable won't contain the core DirectX 10 files, but rather supporting files, that's why it's not available for Windows XP.

No need super computer, the need of X64 mainly is for X64 instructions which should be a little bit (or more) faster than X86, and the ability to use more than 4GB of RAM...

Gather yourself 64-bit drivers if you didn't yet, get native 64-bit softwares to get full performance (or the 32-bit version will do just fine) and finally game with 64-bit support to fully use your 4gb/8gb/16gb/32gb/64gb RAM! thumbup.gif

what did you mean by it is hard to find 64-bit? u meant vista or the softwares/drivers?
as the matter of fact, newer softwares and drivers are able to run just fine in 64-bit OS wink.gif
btw, i am wondering, is there a single 4GB DDR2 RAM stick in the market? all i see are 2GB sticks. i am wondering when will the 4GB sticks be sold at RM60+ price range, then can grab 2 of them, total up 12GB RAM in my system biggrin.gif
