Somehow in searching more information about it, I found this. Which maybe you all read before. Only 2 which is really conduct fully the courses.
Maritime Training in Malaysia There are 13 institutes in Malaysia identified as being capable of providing seafarers' training. These are listed in table 2. Only two out of the 13 identified seafarers' training institutions provide training for new entrants to the industry. Two are for cadets and only one provides training for both cadets and ratings. The remaining 11 institutions only provide training for modular courses that are required by the industry, for example, fire fighting, survival, communications and security courses. These modular courses are mandatory short courses that seafarers must take, in addition to their main course, in order to comply with STCW 95 and to attain their professional certification. Based on this, only ALAM and PUO provide new entrants, both cadets and ratings, to the industry.
Akademi Laut Malaysia Melaka & Terengganu. Covers all aspect of seafarer training. Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM) is the premier maritime training provider in Malaysia. It provides comprehensive seafarers' training, ranging from ratings to cadets and covers presea and postsea training programmes in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping (STCW) [ALAM, 2003]. Almost all of ALAM’s trainees are sponsored from the moment that they are accepted for training. The trainees are then bonded to service their sponsors. Sponsors include shipping companies, ports and government agencies.
Politeknik Ungku Omar, Perak, Engineering cadets only. Politeknik Ungku Omar (PUO) provides engineering cadets through its Diploma in Marine Engineering course. It began in operation in 1972 and to date has trained 1,285 engine cadets [Min, W.S., 2004]. All engine cadets in PUO start their training as self paying trainees. Some will be selected for sponsorship in the second semester based on their performance. The remainder can apply for study loans, or remain as selfpaying trainees. The records provided by PUO provided slightly different, albeit similiar, downward trend characteristics. This is because those applying to join PUO have the opportunity to choose from a number of land based courses as opposed to marine engineering. The number of applicants in this case reflects only those specifically applying to join the marine engineering course, instead of PUO as a whole.

if u are interested in navigating the ship then nautical studies is for u provided u must have perfect eyesight for this course. If not, marine engineering isn't a bad choice either. Wider job prospect i assumed.

QUOTE(Porkism @ Jul 16 2009, 12:35 AM) as u have pre-U qualification..try to get degree course instead, in UTM. or previously(few pages front) there is one guy who take degree course in IPTA.. not really. unless you got sumthing like CGPA 3.5 n above, then it is really worthless to join ALAM. not that joining with stpm will be waste of tym. there are one guy in my batch already finish his 5th sem in his diploma. but he then quit and enter ALAM. it is not about waste of tym or anything. it is about the chances you'll have once u graduated. job provided, high salary. etc...
