Sorry, can't find. Mind giving me your opinions? The structure of SMA DME course seems to be different from the one offered at ALAM or PUO. I've read through all 60 pages of this thread. Very informative.
*
Bottom line, its all the same, the only difference is in SMA, you have to self fund for lodging, food and first year of studies, wherelse, in alam its all funded by major shipping companies, but its regiment style or army style..

i found this in one of the websites,,

Qualities needed off of a seafarer,

(deck officer)
What qualities & skills will you need?
You'll need to be decisive, calm and able to inspire confidence in others. You'll be a good team member with mathematical ability, an interest in technology, and good written and verbal communication skills. Beyond that, confidence, enthusiasm and self-reliance are essential attributes.

(engineer officer)
What qualities & skills will you need?

You'll need to be practical, resourceful and have a real interest in mechanical and electrical systems, with good mathematical ability. Like deck officers, you'll be decisive, calm and able to inspire confidence in others. Good written and verbal communication skills are required. Beyond this you'll need to be prepared to learn about new technology and adapt your skills to its use.

(electrical officer)

What qualities & skills will you need?
You will have an interest in electrical and electronic control and power systems. Practical trouble shooting skills will be to the fore, with good team working skills.

after 3 month n now i'm back!! thanks to bro destroyer n few other for helping me out during my interview days... it's my 1st sem in Alam, so far i can say that its not that bad... everything is ok! all provided maa... top to toe all sponsored... that's the good side... the bad one, i am worried looking at today's situation... there are cadets who graduated in 2006 are still 'ship'less... a lot of ships anchored at the port... no work for them... i wonder what will happen to us in the future...
*
Thats good to hear.. so what did they ask u during interview?

Are degrees (bachelor and/or masters) required to rise up the rank for a marine engineer? Or is CoC the only deciding factor?
