QUOTE(sakuradesune @ Jan 17 2010, 03:53 AM) Eccen uses a Squire Telecaster (copy of the Fender Telecaster that Koyuki uses). It embodies some of its playing characteristics. It's a very clean guitar, good for slow songs like this, probably a little handicapped for rock (but could still try). In fact, after listening eccen play, I realize that he is also playing it in the way Koyuki did when he first started. If you have the chance, look back at how Koyuki played "Follow Me" at that local fair in the anime. But don't be fooled. Eccen's suppose to record God Knows yesterday... using this guitar + ME-20 Boss effect pedal. Somehow kinda got carried away because Chiaki was drumming away this song. |

QUOTE(Thalmes @ Jan 24 2010, 11:49 AM) Thank you. Now I understand how you feel about making collaboration videos of this kind... everyone as that little off-beat that makes editing very hard. Originally I played against the OP and sounded OK, but later when combining, it just doesn't work. So instead I played it against the combined version (had to delay some parts) so that it doesn't sound too off beat. Will need to apply some QC on future recordings. QUOTE(incubus_skj @ Jan 24 2010, 02:33 PM) Hi All, Glad yer wanna join! Saw some of your videos, and gotta admire your guitar collection!Interested in playing with you guys =)) I'm into anime songs and sometimes J-Rock as well.. Here are some of my uploads from Youtube, feel free to comment =P http://www.youtube.com/incubusskj The only problem is that I'm from Penang... Well the plan is to eventually play in performance. But now need to build slowly. Drummer is new. And we still don't have a permanent vocal. On your videos, wondering if the recording could be through an audio-in of a PC, (or better yet, through a dedicated audio sampler). Have to admit that using PC audio-in doesn't always work well because cable/PC noise could ruin the recording. Fellow Malaysian Setsukyie (on youtube) would be a great reference on electric guitar recording. And yeah, after recording the video and sound separately, ye have to combine them Lastly, looking at yer cover for fudepen... hmmm.... (looking for bass tabs) |

QUOTE(Thalmes @ Jan 24 2010, 09:07 PM) What program are you using currently ? So you're still going for the jazz bass ? One thing I wanna tell you before buying a jazz bass , The jazz bass is nice to see and nice to play but it's heavy to play it while standing up . It is bigger than our Ibanez SR200 as well . So you have to take that into consideration . Upon owning a jazz bass , I prefer Ibanez now because of it's weight and size . I'm a small size bassist lol . 1. Using Blender 3D, Windows Movie Maker and VirtualDub for video, and Audacity and Dsound for audio. Yeah too many. Too poor to buy any pro editing software. While it is possible to make precise and perfect vidoes with the combination above, it's tedious. Using Blender3D is like using a propane metal cutter to light a candle. It's cool, but overkill.Practice makes perfect for the editting part , My first few videos sucked ... But got better in time . Hey Clamy , Wanna do something fun in the next collaboration ? 2 bassist ? You and I ? Interested ? =P , Band collab as usual but with 2 bassist lol . 1 with the bassline while 1 with improvisation =D 2. The Jazz Bass has 2 benefits for me a) As a musical instrument, it does give the warm tones that I can't get with my Ibanez - tested and confirmed. b) It is an otaku collectible, just like figurines, posters etc. Plus loaning it cosplayers could generate income too The Ibanez is light and easy to play, yet I've used a heavy bass before (the white TKM). Financially, the Jazz Bass is not too far a reach for me (staring at another dude's interest for the Gibson SG 3. On the 2 bass video... yep, am interested. Would it be the Valkyria Chronicles OP 2 you posted earlier? This post has been edited by Myclamyra: Jan 25 2010, 06:47 AM |

1. Thalmes, wouldn't mind if you would like to do the video editing
2. As for the song selection, well, there's not much left. Kanashimi Rensa was the only 2 bass song I know off. Plus, as per my philosophy, bass is mainly used to form the rhythm with the drums. One should be enough. Non anime songs (classical usually) may have more than 1 bass. 3. FYI, I am assisting chiaki to train up to be a proper drummer, so my time is kinda cut in half. Next up is God Knows, which Eccen has probably waited for 1 year to play it out. 4. Would also love to meet-up with Noir (he's in Kajang too) to probably work out songs with piano. |

QUOTE(Thalmes @ Jan 27 2010, 11:28 PM) Like I said earlier , Just take a song like God Knows , yes one of them plays the original part while the other one improvise on the bassline . That's what I meant . Like adding melodies and stuff . Was running through the songs in my car... then Ranka sang... What 'bout my Star? |

1st piece towards the God Knows compilation... Uploaded on behalf of Eccentrical
QUOTE(Thalmes @ Feb 1 2010, 08:41 PM) Nice song ~~~ I should be able to nail it. If you look at the chords being played, it's just 3 (D#, C# and B) plus some runsI don't think we can play that song just yet . Bass slapping is really hard for me just yet . LOWER YOUR STANDARDS xD But as I said, the instrument I'm using is becoming a limitation. I'll try to 'modify' my bass to see if I can get a more reasonable pop sound. Well, I'll keep searching for other songs too... |

QUOTE(Thalmes @ Feb 2 2010, 12:18 AM) Haha Eccen , What would you do if you ever stuff up the very last bit and you have to record again ??? xD Well we are building the God Knows video... so the contribution option is open. As for being the highlight... we bass players rarely do that. I mean, we build rhythms, rarely goreng. To goreng, need to play jazz. Otherwise someone like eccen is more suited for expressing the song (using a guitar instead of bass).Myclamy , Why don't we just do the God Knows thing ? Or you want the video to only emphasize you ? xD On the bright side, there are songs with poor bass play "Marissa Stole My Precious Thing" is an example... I'm sure there are many other songs that could use a bass upgrade. |

Apologies guys, really wanted to record God Knows bass this week. On Sat, overplayed the bass until both right and left fingers got blistered. Will be a couple of days until the finger tips heal.

We're gonna need a clean recording without the background song if possible (because we're gonna make 2 versions - with and without BGM). I can use this for the GM version (let me test first if the BGM overlap is good enough) |

Firstly, many thanks to the participants, especially the new singer and rhythm guitar
Second, we're gonna establish a bit of twist here. But before that, I'd like to list down our 'strengths' Vocal - female: lovesummer, yuki Vocal - male: steno Drum: chiaki Bass: thalmes, myself, brian O'connor Guitar: eccentrical, kusakabemisao, lightnokira, incubus_skj Special mention: Setsukyie (keyboard/guitar), Noir (piano) As you can see, we are still constrained by the drummer. While he has raw talent, he's still far away in terms of theory, mechanics and experience. This affects the songs we can ask him to play. So for the time being, we have to choose songs with simpler drums. Also, anime songs are difficult to sing, so we have to be mindful of the singer capabilities too. For example, while we have a complete instrument set for Sobakasu, asking the singers to sing it is.... On the list of simpler drums are 1. 1/3 Junjou na Kanjou (Rurouni Kenshin ED) <- NEXT SONG #1 2. Yasashi Uso (Chromed Shell) <- NEXT SONG #2 3. Follow Me (BECK) 4. Lost My Music (SHNY) 5. Kimi ni Todoke Third, and most importantly, I'm sure that the first band song left out a lot of talented people. So here's the deal. Whomever contributes their pieces toward the completion of the above songs will be in it Lastly, we are always open to suggestions. But keep in mind of the current limitation we have. |
