This is because 13 is 4 when added up, 4 is 4 itself, 14 is also same as 4, 44 also 4. The number "4" is interpreted by the Chinese as "die" meaning it's a bad luck number.

Many people would avoid using 4 as their house or unit number. Example:
42A, Jalan xxxxxx instead of 44, Jalan xxxxxx
Level 3A, xxxxxx instead of Level 4, xxxxxx

Chinese normally don't add up the numbers and interpreate...only Hindus do that..

13 can be read to mean 'sure live' in cantonese.

Initially only the cantonese believe in "4" as bad luck but now seems like the rest of chinese community being influenced by this as well. Personally I do not believe in "4" as bad luck. I know a manager with car number 444 but keep getting promoted. How? 13 is believe to be bad luck by westerner. Remember Friday 13th?

Although i don't really believe all this bad luck thingy, but I still don't like number 4. Thus my car have no number 4 and i din buy the number

if u have a choice choose other numbers la.. as a matter of fact it affects potential buyers in the future who are superstitious and there are a lot of there.

well, in western countries they wont use 13... in asian countries they wont use 4,13,14

i just stay at kayangan flats at genting.. the unit no. is 2424... so far ntg bad happened except my friend lost during gambling.

I am not superstitious either. Just worried about re-sale value in future only. Well. it depends, I do agree some Chinese they like 4 also. Example:

48 ---> "sei fatt" (keep getting rich)
44 ---> 4+4=8 ("fatt")

Well, it depends on every individuals on how they perceive those numbers.

I'm chinese. so my fav number is 8.

There's no such thing as fav/lucky/unlucky number for Malay.

The superstitious not only concern house buyers. I've seen developers purposely rename their 4th, 13th and 14th level apartment to other number, e.g. 4th to 3Ath level, maybe to 'cater' for the buyers who have the same superstitious belief.

U get those number, next time you sell your property they will step down the price.

actually of house number 4... a lot of chinese no prefer it included my parents...
but i propose my mom locate a chinese word "Fa" "發" beside 4 if we dont want change to 2A number...

Like it or not superstitious plays a significant role - similar to fengshui.

If it's for your own stay, who cares but if you have a plan to sell the unit or to rent it out in future, this should be one of the things you need to consider before buying

Vice-versa, you will get lower price (2nd value, perhaps?) for units with these numbers

so i have no issues with 4

i just buy a new house, house no. is not 44 (developer hv changed it to 42A). This is the last unit of this section. If choose beside section (just launch), it will extra 5k i need to pay.

they are same house and building material.

shoud it worth to buy this 42A or pay extra 5k for beside section (this i can choose a good number no.68)

Depending whether ur chinese or not. But even if ur chinese and the home is for investment, you can always sell to non-chinese. As long as the property is at a good location ^^
