Terre d'Hermes <--- definitely my next target. Tried it 3 times this month alone but still no budget to buy. LOL. Planning to get it by end of this month...

TdH is quite expensive...try to keep a lookout for discounted giftsets.

Come to think of it, it WAS a red bottle. Just walked into Just Parfum, looked at the YSL's they had, and went "that one".

hmm.gif Thinking twice about Chrome now. Problem is i don't have the luxury of dropping by malls to test Chrome out, based on reviews (and the itch to try smth new). Purchasing online anyway, from a fellow forummer. smile.gif
*
then it should be Opium for Women. The Pour Homme version is quite different.

It should be safe la to buy Chrome without a test first. Smelled or tried CK One before ? Chrome is very similar. Anyways if u end up not liking Chrome let me know...I wont mind taking it off your hands.

Will do. Don't think I've tried One before, but then again, "blue" fragrances all smell alike to me generally. Olfactory senses not fine tuned enough yet. Tried Free though, quite okay with it but I don't think I'm willing to pay retail for it. Just not worth the price IMO.

YSLs are hard to come by. That's the price of exclusivity, I guess.
*
YSL frag especially the older ones like Rive Gauche, Opium and Kouros are slightly cheaper than the newer stuff in the market. quite easy to find too nowadays. But not as common as CK and Hugo la haha.

Free is not worth the money because it smells like cheap shower gel.

Any perfumes recommendation for a guy who wants a classy smell ?

How about GA Aqua or Armani Code Black ?

Planning to buy one to go on a date or formal meetings , rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif
*
Aqua di Gio is too common and I don't think very suited as a classy scent.

Black Code/Code is not bad and can work as a classy scent. But there are better options out there like Dunhill Edition, Aramis Tuscany and YSL Rive Gauche.

Whatever u decide to buy, remember to test on skin 1st and not only on the paper strips.

Depends on your age is guess...Paco Rabanne Black XS, Armani Diamonds and JPG Le Male would work if u r younger guy. YSL M7, Dior Homme and Bulgari Black for a more mature guy.

But in the end still down to individual preferences.

I went to sogo KL today, tried out the ysl rive gauche, it smells unique, something like shaving cream, well it doesnt suit me as im just 19, others might think i smelled awkward. I guess it is more suitable for older guys.
*
Rive Gauche grows on you..but I liked it the moment I smelled it the first time and bought it on the spot. I think as consumers we are conditioned by marketing that certain age groups will suit different scents. Well if u do wear Rive Gauche i'm sure the girls will notice u more haha...in a good way of course.

If i'm around my 20s,Paco Rabanne Black XS, Armani Diamonds and JPG Le Male would be okay ? This is for formal dress code right ?
*
Black XS, Diamonds and Le Male would be more suitable for a casual night out.

For formal evening occasions I would recommend YSL Rive Gauche, Chanel Pour Monsieur, Dior Eau Sauvage, Aramis, Dunhill Edition and Chanel Egoiste.

Isn't that what fragrances were created for in the first ?

I don't see the point in spending RM200 on a frag that smells so common that at least 5 guys in the office has a bottle.

This thread has been used by some members to increase their post count. Title of the thread is "Perfume for Guys, share some of ur knowlege and experience"...that's why I don't get it when ppl start posting one liners like "I use Cool Water".

Since the price for Black XS not much differences everywhere and the price range is pretty affordable , at last I made my purchases on Black XS.

Pretty sexy fragrance I must say.
Since I saw someone selling those demo set of perfume @ pretty cheap price , I'm thinking of getting another perfume for more occasion.

How would you guys say about Paco 1 Million , CK free and Platinum Egoiste ?

Oh yea, I have read it somewhere that the smell of Black XS is similiar somewhat to a expensive perfume here. Anyone know the name of it ?

Thank you in advanced.
*
Demo sets as in testers ? Or is it those coffret miniature sets ? Testers are definitely worth it but be prepared as they often come without caps and boxes.

1 Million - In the same vein as Black XS, sweet and fruity. I prefer black xs as its more sensual and playful.

CK Free - Fail ! smells like those cheap men shower gels from Guardian and Watsons.

Platinum Egoiste - Similar to Paco Rabanne XS (not the black version) and CK Eternity. Platinum lasts the longest with most sillage. Also the most expensive among the three. Platinum is more metallic and less fruity then XS n eternity.

AFAIK, Black XS doesn't smell similar to any of the expensive stuff.

salutee...u guys seems to know alot about this stuff!

i need some suggestion if you all dont mind...
i've used Fahrenheit, Polo Sport, Drakkar Noir, Dark Blue, Euphoria, and In Motion
but somehow i still consider Fahrenheit to be my favourite. For me its quite different, mature, sophisticated and fresh (to my nose anyway)

im still looking for another frags which have similar, (i dont know how to explain it) tar/leather-ry/smoky smell to Fahrenheit but until now i dont seems to have found any.

any thoughts?
tx!  notworthy.gif
*
Good choice in Fahrenheit it's one of my favourites too. Unfortunately it's so unique that it's hard to find a substitute. I remember one of the Paul Smith frags to be similar to Fahreheit...it was either Paul Smith Extreme Man or Paul Smith for Men (the old one not the one in black bottle).

You could also wait for the new Fahrenheit Absolute to arrive here. It was released in Europe sometime late last year but is yet to make an appearance in local Dior counters.

hey tx alot for the input, jonny4!

didnt know they released Fahrenheit Absolute already. but would it be similar to the original Fahrenheit?
i've tried my friend's Fahrenheit 32.. but its nothing like the original!

i'll look into that Paul Smith's.
btw, have you tried Diesel's Fuel for Life..any thoughts on that?
*
From what I read about F.Absolute, it's similar a deeper version of Fahrenheit because of the oud wood note. I hope it's good as I love Fahrenheit. To put it plainly and roughly, Absolute would be a cross between YSL M7 and regular Fahrenheit. But this is just my really rough estimate la.

Fuel for Life...I find it nice and fruity but a little too synthetic. More for the younger college going crowd.

I just got the Armani Mania for men. I've yet to open it though.
To the people who have used this scent, what do you guys think about it?
*
Personally I don't really like Mania because it's quite weak and boring. It's a very safe scent that won't attract much attention. Great for the office and college.

I use DKNY- forgot wat name - seldom use.. bought it 4 years ago... still cant finish it, hahaha!

Bvlgari Aqva - Nice for formal and casual usage.. my favourite

Bvlgari Marine - feel relax and smooth, I use it mostly for outdoor, when i go to beach.. or walk around garden..

SeanJohn Unforgiven - hmmm.. seldom use, dono y i buy this...

CK Euphoria - I like this one!! ALot!
Any Burberry fan here? any men cologne to recomment?
*
As long as you store your perfumes properly having more than one is fine. I got 70+ bottles LOL.

I like Burberry Brit and London but both the longevity kind of bad.

From your collection, I see that u tend to like fresh fruity scents. I recommend Davidoff Silver Shadow Altitude, Solo Loewe, Gucci Pour Homme II, Paul Smith Story and YSL Live Jazz. My suggestions are also fresh smelling but are a little more unique compared to the usual stuff in the market.

Just got and applied Azzaro Chrome. First few things that came to mind were 'Adidas' and 'generic'. We'll see how it progresses.
*
Chrome's not that bad. It was released in 1996 and wouldn't have survived more than 13 years if it wasn't good. It's more of the opposite for me...when I smell Adidas I think "another Chrome clone". However I do find that Chrome "inspired" a lot of other scents but Chrome's still one of the best in the genre for me.

Go try YSL L'Homme, Gucci Pour Homme II, Versace Pour Homme, Bulgari Aqua and Burberry Brit.

For something a bit more daring try Versace The Dreamer, Dior Homme, YSL Jazz, Dunhill Edition, Aramis and YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme.

nod.gif It began to grow on me. Now i love it, especially its longevity. I don't smell its metallic tone though, it just smells really pleasant, almost baby-like after a long time. Only gripe i had was when i asked my sister bout it, and she said i smell like one of her guy friends.  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

Anything with similar longevity, jonny?
*
Not many fresh type frags can match Chrome. The one I can think of are Versace Pour Homme, Bulgari Aqua, Chanel Allure Homme Sport and Chanel Platinum Egoiste. None of them are very similar to Chrome...hard to find something like chrome with similar longevity. Lots of guys use it and a lot of perfumes copy Chrome so not surprised your sis gave that comment. A lot of my friends can recognize chrome instantly. Chrome for me is a workhorse frag...nothing unique bout it but it lasts a full day on me...and not very expensive too. I kind of regret giving my bottle of Chrome away to my bro cry.gif

Regarding joey's suggestions, I can only agree with Kenzo Power...the rest have just average longevity and are not at all similar to Chrome. Actually even Kenzo Power is very different from Chrome. I do own all 3 frags suggested by Joey LOL.

Are you looking for a frag similar to Chrome with good longevity or just any frag with Chrome's longevity ?

Similar (or better) longevity, but preferably different smell. No point having two bottles doing the same thing for me  laugh.gif
*
Similar longevity in same fresh genre: Versace PH (v.good sillage), Chanel Allure Homme Sport, Bulgari Aqua and Chanel Platinum Egoiste (longest lasting).

Other long lasting frags (diff genres): As mentioned by Joey (except Gucci PH) and I'll add YSL Opium PH, Hermes Terre d'Hermes, Paul Smith London, Dior Fahrenheit, Gucci Envy, Thierry Mugler A*Men and Bogart Pour Homme (one of the most longest frags lasting I've ever sprayed on!).

Longevity and sillage is very subjective and even varies from person to person. But the ones I suggested won't disappoint you. Another thing is it's quite rare for a fresh aquatic (blue) frag to last as long as Chrome. Usually the long lasting ones are overly woody masculine, sweet and spicy or a mix of all 3 or more. Those kind of smells tend not to be up the alley of the average Malaysian and don't fare too well in hot weather.

Despite my indifferent initial opinion of Chrome, now i find it awesome. Its exactly what i'm looking for, sans the generic smell. Your words described it perfectly; its a workhorse fragrance. I'm up for something spicy/woody, as long as it doesn't smell like Arabian Oud. No offense intended to anyone, but that just ain't up my alley.
*
If arabian oud aint up your alley then there is a very high chance you will dislike YSL M7. Although not oud dominant, there are prominent hints of oud in M7 (yes Joey I know...but no matter what I still get the oud LOL). But that is what makes M7 do damm unique though.

There are numerous woody/spicy frags...the ones that are easier to pull of on a daily basis are Gucci Pour Homme, Gucci Envy, Cartier Declaration and YSL Opium PH EDT.

any idea between eu de toilet and eu de parfum?? biggrin.gif

Eau de Toilette contains between 5%-15% aromatic oils. Most male fragrances come in EDT concentration.

Eau de Parfum contains between 10%-20% aromatic oils. Some female fragrances come in both EDT and EDP.

Generally EDP will last longer than EDT.
