QUOTE(jack~daniel @ Sep 1 2012, 10:46 PM) Then how about jurutera elektrik kompeten examination and jurutera perkhidmatan elektrik kompoten examination at ST? What about them? You are confused, indeed. We talking about Ir. in this thread, not some competencies exams provided by ST. Your question has nothing to do with the topic discussed, to say the least. Ir. by far covered almost all types of engineering disciplines, not ST-related disciplines only.

My concern on electrical discipline After clarification with my senior, IR is title for professional engineer issued by BEM/IEM , but for those who practicing as an electrical engineer in Malaysia, having IR title doesn't mean the person consider as competent person, as stipulated by malaysia electrical law, the person must pass the certain criteria(exam&professional interview) to meet by ST to become as an competent electrical engineer.

Ohh. You should mention that earlier. ST only covers what's under its rules & regulations, and only certifies those who are related to these fields. Your senior is doing jobs that are related to ST, I suppose? Then no wonder his/ her answer and response regarding Ir. is revolving around ST. There are many other electrical engineers, that don't need certification from ST, but still competent in their respected fields.

As i mentioned, under malaysia law, without competent engineer certification by ST, the person consider not competent and cant involved with electrical works such as installation, testing, commissioning or even enter the premises(restriction area-feeder pillar, electrical room,PMU), if he died because electrocution, the insurans company can use this excuse to reject the claim, and the signature not valid for the project involving high voltage.

If you want to talk about ST, and not about the whole electrical engineers, then be my guest.
God forbid someone else comes here and start to talk about DOSH, its competencies, what an engineer could & couldn't do without them, and what will happen if he dies doing his job without the competencies et cetera.

QUOTE(whchin83 @ Jan 5 2015, 10:50 PM) anybdy know how to get Ir title? be Professional Engineer in BEM/IEM, then will get Ir. But maybe not accept by Suruhanjaya Tenaga. question : 1)Jurutera Elektrik kompetent (JEK) from suruhanjaya tenaga acceptable by BEM/IEM ? 2) Professional Engineer = JEK ? 3) Degree that not recognized by BEM or MQA, only study Master degree to become graduated member and be Professional Engineer ? (My case)

(My case) 1) To be a JEK, you have to be P.E from BEM, U can't be JEK without P.E 2) JEK is higher than P.E, P.E is nothing, JEK is for those who work on field. Most of P.E doesn't have set experience and not technically sound. 3) Don't waste ur time, get to another uni.
