SFC. The console that I always wanted back when i was 13.

Reason: Street Fighter 2.
The outcome: Manage to save up and bought myself a........ Mega Drive 2 instead. (Due to 'poison' from my friends. But, fortunately for me and everyone else, Street Fighter was eventually ported to Mega Drive)

I think SFC/SNES was the first console to have shoulder buttons for it's controller, right? Correct me if i'm wrong.

Sadly no, bro. A classmate of mine offered to trade his SNES for my MD, but I refused... I forgetten what was the reason behind my refusal. I stick to my MD and eventually bought another SEGA console again the next generation, which is the Saturn. nod.gif

I still remember when my dad took me to buy my Super Famicom in Sungai Wang from a game shop near the main entrance on the right (think it's a camera shop now) in 1992. Still remember demoing Super Mario World in the store and being so excited and amazed at the graphics, that I died running straight into the first koopa on World 1-1. Think I got Street Fighter 2 as well... was simply in awe of how close it looked to the console version.

Think I gave my Super Famicom away when I hit my mid-teens. Wish I still had it now. Ironically I still have my NES (and Mario 3, still in working condition. thumbup.gif) but I always love the Super Famicom more.

That was my early teens years. I have a SNES and later a cousin gave me his Super Famicom when he got married.

My first SNES game is Dragon Ball Z 3, and later Street Fighter 2. A while later Yoshi's Island. The most memorable games on SNES is...mmm... the Zelda series, Chrono Trigger.... oh yea, Cotton 100% and Ranma 1/2 fighting games.

The CAPCOM's Alladin 2D platforming is excellent, and also another game The Jungle Book. Those days licensed games are great, not like today.

i remember how me and my friends thought SNES were un-cool the moment nintendo started censoring the fatalities in the first mortal kombat. and of course all the different iterations of street fighter II, each one getting better with the minor additions leading up to Super SFII turbo.

whenever i think of street fighter ii, i think of the SNES.... or it's the other way around? rclxub.gif

You remember the port of Super Street Fighter 2 (The New Challenger) to SNES & MD?
I remember the SNES port is not as good as the MD one,
even the "Round 1 Fight" voice was eliminated from SNES one.
I remember my SEGA fanboys classmates constantly rapping on this.

Bro, is it true? Wow, honestly, I didn't know that. I used to own this game for the MD, and at that time I kept telling myself I was playing an inferior version. laugh.gif In those days, as a very young teenager, I always thought that the SNES/SFC was more powerful than the MD. nod.gif

My dear friend. smile.gif
It seems like you are wrong for many many years. laugh.gif
Looking at the spec u will know, MD has faster processor,
and SEGA marketing slogan says "Blast Processing" or something like that.
So it seems.... MD is actually superior. (Not sure myself)

And I am bloody sure Super Street Fighter 2 (The New Challenger) for MD, is better than the one for SNES.
Yes. SNES has no "Round 1 Fight", and that really is no good.

Hehe.. Thanks for clarifying that. After almost 15 years, I learnt something today about the MD. laugh.gif Yes yes, I remember that freaking awesome slogan 'Blast Processing'. Err... I think at that time, I thought the SFC/SNES was more powerful was because it has more colours.

But, if I remember, the "Round 1 Fight" voiceover is available in the first Street Fighter II version for the SFC/SNES (the one with only 8 playable characters), right? No?

I always play SNES, MD at the pay for play shop (which the police always raid) for RM3 per hour back then coz we can't afford to buy our own. The tauke's wife is always sexy and we boys would always drool ahahaha.

Also..the classic moments of playing multiplayer of moto roader and wrestling (up to 5 players) on the PC Engine. happy.gif

Yes, the "Round 1 Fight" voice over is in the earlier SF2 port for SNES, even for SF Zero 2 SNES, but hell no on The New Challenger. And the animation in that SNES port is not as sharp as MD port. U remember Blanka stage where there is an anaconda on the tree? In MD port the snake is lively, the SNES port the snake look like plastic snake sad.gif

Not sure why CAPCOM screw the SNES port, hmm.gif
probably because SNES has no Blast Processing, or SEGA does what Nintendon't. laugh.gif

i think i know that shop u mention about. they got one big 29 inch Sharp brand TV that got a internal super famicom buid in with it.. hehe... that time where super famicom or super nes is HOT topic in town! that time i still in secondary school... always dream of a tv of my own that SUPPORT S VIDEO or RGB input to play game... hehehe... those kind of TV is so luxury for that time. tongue.gif

now those port only collecting dust behind TV since ........H.......D..........M............I arrive

my favourite game that time is... RANMA 1/2.... very fun game... especially the transform mode..pour water.. rclxms.gif even the dialogue clips are all high quality that only can reproduce from Super Famicom high quality sound chip!

then one thing i really admire that time is the box art from SUPER FAMICOM game box... all is so well drawn
(take an example... Street fighter cover art produce by capcom hired artist in japan is always better than US version art rendering)

U.S. rendering on street fighter art always give me goosebump!!! shakehead.gif

another great experience from a game released in Super Famicom is "YUYU HAKUSHO" !!
i remember turning my "LAU YA" tv volume kuat kuat everytime i play the just to enjoy the excitement of "RAAAAAAAAY GAAAAAAAN" (those who play before will know what i mean) hehe.

Really, the split screen SNES / MegaDrive Dragon Ball Z game is a classic.

I really wish Bandai could bring it back, maybe release a smaller package via WiiWare or Live.

Anyone thinks SFC graphic looks more smooth while Sega MD gives more "Raw" image? I can really tell between the 2 systems if you put random games on it without showing which is which.

Anyway when I played SFC SFII it was rm5 per hour. rm3 per hour was for the Nintendo FC. The Neo Geo AES was rm10 per hour... buy 2 get half an hour free. 2nd controller i think need add another rm1 or 2.

But I find playing in shops more fun than playing at home nowadays, maybe becoz last time u pay for the hour and it's always short so you get those excitement.

Anyone managed to finish Kido Senshi Gundam Z RPG on SFC? It's so long I'd like to skip the shooting section and go straight to RPG section.

yes pretty good. but the shooting part is too long.

If you played kidou senshi 0079 on SFC you will have better idea.

0079 is RPG turn based where you can use range or meelee attacks. You gain level and points to upgrade your units and unlock new attack moves. You have to enter certain commands to pull off the move and once it reaches 100% you can select the attack without entering the move. I think the damages increases too.

Before start you need to make sure you have balance of points & items like health packs and ammos.

Story wise very close to the original shows. But also very lengthy game. Difficulty quite high because you don't know when the stage ends you might end up not having enough healths. After the end of 0079 I think you get to play the story of MS-08th team or something.

-------------------------

Also if you like Gundam Z you should try SD Kidou Senshi Gundam 2, it's platform shooting which follows the Zeta story, style is very true to original except you get BB Gundams. You get to choose from 3 robots they have different paths and also different final boss. Zeta you fight Zero, Hyaku Shiki you fight Quebeley, Gundam MK-II you fight a super zaku.

Nope, there's nothing you can do about it. My SFC also suffer from the same problem, but luckily both my SNES are still looking good. Although all of them are made from the same material, some turned yellow some not even if placed under the same condition. Very strange. But well the main reason behind this is the cheap plastic + coating material Nintendo used. The hardware can take some beatings but the shell can't even live through the flow of air sweat.gif

Awesome thread Gundamalpha! rclxms.gif I'm glad you started this thread as the SFC/SNES is indeed, one of the most important home consoles made by Nintendo. I have since got myself one a few months back and I'm really loving it. The yellowing is due to the plastic retardant Nintendo used back in the day that was easily prone to oxidization when exposed to UV. They fixed this problem in the later models (i'm guessing after 93 or 94). So if you have a yellowed SNES/SFC, chances are, you have an earlier model which also has the soundchip separated from the motherboard smile.gif It's good to know that some of the guys here still have their original SNES back in the 90s!! Groovie!

Btw, does your Super UFO unit still work? That's now a rare piece of hardware man... brows.gif

The closest experience I had with an SNES was during my flight to Singapore on MAS. I had Street Fighter 2 for the whole hour. Pure bliss. smile.gif

WAH!!! Kyo conspefirmed OKK!!! go SG take MAS, so that he can get the closest experience with SNES!!! shocking.gif

orang kurang kaya like me, normally take bus or train only...

anyway... I used to enjoy playing the following SNES games at friend's rumah back then:
01) Life Game (JP) - my friend can read, so he'll guide us all through, if I can remember correctly, the game can support up to 8/10 players. It was total FUN & HILARIOUS EXP!!!

02) 聖劍傳說III – 2P CO-OP on 3 Characters, very few action RPG can provide such fun. I believed this shaped the path of action RPG...

03) Super BOMBERMAN – with 10 controllers hooked on the adapter/convertor... chaos+fun is totally out of control!

Wow. seems talk abt SNES brings back a lot of good old memories.

My first game on SNES was a loan game from my couse FF2 ( US ), then Dragonball Z 1 ( fighting game ), then SF2 champion Edition. Afterthat, i saved up enugh money to buy Super WildCard, always go to Sg wang there to copy games. 1 Disk = RM 10 bucks.... A lot of nice games, like you guys mentioned. Yuyu Hakusho, Donkey Kong, Super Mario World, Fatal Fury 2, World Heroes, Ranma 1/2, etc etc.

Wow. Thinking all this , i think i gonna download emulator for those games!! haha biggrin.gif

Believe it or not, I only manage to buy this SNES around 2005 at a shop, that shop was selling GG & NGP. Too bad I'm still a secondary school student that time. So limited funds. I got this SNES as a gift from my grandma. Liked it a lot. Cost her 90 bucks, full box condition but I think they repaint the whole housing. happy.gif. Too bad the shop close down when I have enough $$ to buy GG & NGP. Now that boss is selling yu gi oh cards at another shop nearby. T_T
