hello everyone hammies lovers
i've had a winter hamster for abt 8 months now, his name its squeaky. thanks god he is rather healthy and active (cos i have enough pain with sick turtles sad.gif ) .
squeaky is different from the other hamsters i've had before, he makes a whole lotta noise (that squeaky sound) and up to now he is still very aggressive in his own cage (i can't grab it out or he'll nibble! rclxub.gif ). he does funny things like climbing the cage and falling asleep hanging over there, and he loves to attack a small white furry puppet i hung in his cage, he'd attack it whenever i approach the cage. vmad.gif and if i talk to him he'll squeak loud in response blink.gif .
however if i take him out and stroke his fur for a while he'll get all tame and turn around to let me scratch his side laugh.gif he even falls asleep outside the cage sometime. wub.gif
but i'm really preplexed at how aggressive he is!! is it normal?? sweat.gif
also: how do u normally clean a hamster's fur? i used to bath him but neither him or me liked the process, so now i use white bunny powder and whipe him with a wet towel, he looks more white after but dunno if he is more clean.... hmm.gif

Different hamster have different personalities,so mayb wat we think weird is normal to them.As long as it is healthy then is ok.
Glad to hear u already stop bathing it and wipe it wiv towel. thumbup.gif
As for the powder,i hav no idea. But just wipe it wiv damp towel is enuff. smile.gif

Any1 here knw how to toilet train their syrians? Can share some tips with me?tongue.gif
*
your hamster does his toilet everywhere?? thats strange, hmm.gif squeaky always uses one corner of the cage for peeing (although i think he poos anywhere.. but the poo doesn't make the cage too dirty or smelly humm i think...). sometime he changes the corner... i guess for hamsters is normal to set a "toilet" area, but mayb they take their own time to get used to the place and find the suitable spot first... mayb ur hammie is marking his territory...

I try to learn to train it to use toilet so nid some tips frm u all. biggrin.gif

ahia... if like this then don't worry. as far as i know hamsters take care of their own toilet and are rather clean animals... ur syrian will probably find his way to the WC by himself hahahha tongue.gif but for sure he will poo a lot when u try to play with it... mmm that's all abt pick up and throw sweat.gif

it will be only me in this room. anyway, thanks a lot for the tips, i hope it works, logically it will work  biggrin.gif i'll get back here when there is an improvement

you ppl seem to hav a lot of tricks to tame hamster, but as it is hamsters don't like to be handled and they are the happiest in their chages...
i've had squeaky for 1 yr now and i tried a lot of tricks but never managed to impose any control on him sweat.gif ....
he is the fiercest WW in his own cage (100%bites if i wanna pick it), but when i manage to take him out he can be very tame, at the point that he rests on my bed and let me pet him freely laugh.gif but just if he is in the mood!
so u see... hamsters have their own personal rules and moods,
the more u respect them the longest and healthiest they stay. icon_rolleyes.gif

Uh, if a hamster makes grunting noises it means it's scared? Minmin (or muimui see how) was grunting when my dad was talking near the tank
*
sometime grunt means he/she is pissed off or in a very bad mood.... no playing with a pissy hammie sweat.gif
my hammie grunts at abt everyone, not that much at me lately tho...

cute hamster u hv..i like it^^
but i dun like hamster bite..
last nite i get bit by my xiao ke ai for 2 times till blood he dun1 too let go me..
i feed him for 1 year plus rd and last nite 1st time get him bite without any reason..sob sob.. cry.gif
*
yeah i've been bitten really hard when trying to clean up squeaky, he did nto agree with my methods i guess sweat.gif
but he is a WW so rather small, not so much blood spilled. i think you must have disturbed ur hammie from sleep or mayb ur hammie is feeling sick (stomachache, other ache... something), that's why it attack u. animals don;t attack without reason... normall men do that...
dun be sad, try make peace with ur little one k icon_rolleyes.gif

hey did anyone notice their hammie drolling or sweating under the chin when doing exercise, playing in the hamster ball etc? cos squeaky gets his chin and below a bit damp after playing with me or in the ball... btw i introduce a new wooden shelter for squeaky and he pee on it =.= preferring to sleep behind the wheel, hanging on the cage bars... crazy rat :-p
