HI,

I have 2 Syrians. I recently got a rodent bathroom for them. But after 2 weeks as a toilet, it's a bed/food storage...Should I just leave it as it is or get another bathroom for them? Just changed it yesterday and they still put food inside =/ I change the sand 2 times a week as per the instruction on the bath sand packet.

just leave as it is...  they might get stressed  if you remove the food from where they put it...its their territory, so let them do what they want lor. smile.gif
make sure the sand is not scented.

syrians are solitary and they MUST be separated... they will not fight untill their 6-7 weeks old...but they eventually will fight to gain their territory.
when my friend bought a syrian hamster her father said kesian la that hamster why don't get a pair...so, she did as her dad told...once she reached home the unwanted thing happened! both syrians fought...so, when she decided to give one away, i took it! so, the moral of this story is do not keep two syrians together.
here's the hamster that she wanted to give away: presenting to all LYN members my little demon tongue.gif user posted image

Thanks for the info. Yeah, my sand is scented... Didn't know it was scented when bought, can't read the Japanese words on it....
But if they do their business in there and eat the food...Isn't it unhygienic? Will they get sick?

Currently I have 2 Syrians in a storage box, a 6 month old and a 2 month old. They get along fine. But I don't want to breed them. Previously bought a wrong sized cage(for dwarf hamsters, the biggest size in the shop), and the male killed the other female. I'm thinking of splitting the box [50(W)35(D)x30(H)cm] from | | > | | | Will it be spacious enough for them?

That Hammie looks like it's smiling =D

You can get a big pack of non-clumping cat litter for their toilet. More economical than the sand bathe.

Anyway syrians don't sand bathe as they will groom themselves.

Hamsters does eat their own poo. Also they sometimes will eat the non-clumping toilet sand.

They can get along when they are still young but they will get more territorial when older. But you better separate them quickly. They are sexually active after 4 months old.

A syrian requires a lot of space. That box you have is only enough space for 1 syrian only. Splitting into half for 2 syrians is a very bad idea.

Thanks again.
Well, mine's the long fur type. After I got the sand bathe it's fur didn't look as messy as before. Just worried about the urine in their food. Seen them eating their poo before, not worried about that.
Alright, just asking for opinion. Even though they're solitary, thinking of keeping them side by side.

my Hammie is not feeling so good and he looks tired/sick...i picked him up and he just sits only...not energetic at all... just noticed just now...i checked him now and then always saw that he moved his sleeping place... his eyes are not alert also...like sleepy/tired only..maybe because of the heat? Cos I left my window open during noon..made my room quite hot...worried...is this temporary because of the heat..or something serious?

help please cry.gif

he died last night...11.48pm...I saw that his breathing changed from earlier.... held him in my hand as he went away...

The day before he was ok..still running in his wheel..since it was daytime I thought he'd be sleeping..so I didn't wake him up... he usually wakes up at around 10pm+...

The only thing I can think about now would be that he fell quite hard off my table the day before...my bf said he had a broken rib when he examined him(***after he died).. And he liked to store his food in his toilet/bath house... And he escaped quite a few times under my bed(enclosed bottom but there's a hole he can fit through) and eat the parquet under there...he likes going there..whenever I take him out to run he always tries to go under my bed, even with a hamster ball.

His cage was fairly clean and not due to change until Sunday..I give him filtered water... concerning his water..He didn't drink much... And he had quite a lot of food stored beside his water bowl...(processed green veg that I got from Pet Safari)(I know Vitakraft is around but i'm waiting for them to finish the veg and harry hamster mixed seeds...before I get it)
