To TS:
Something is wrong with your post. Under "Website" link, it redirects me to a Mac Microsoft Messenger link. Care to re-link. Btw, it only took me to download this complete file in 23 mins+/- @ 103 kb/s+/- transfer rate.

TechnoDude94, that's the official, generic link.

It doesn't point to any specific platform page, except maybe it looked up the cookies stored during your previous visit.

Maybe you can clear up the cookies and retry.

It's newer version (maybe it may look the same) but maybe some bugs may've been ironed out.

Added on December 16, 2008, 3:34 pmTo TS:
Ever since I downloaded and install this version of Windows Live Messenger, I'm unable to log in with an error message:
QUOTE
Signing in to Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.
I'll post a screenshot if needed, before I downloaded and installed WLM (latest version), everything was fine. Please help me out here, thanks in advance.

do you have any error code with that msg?

e.g. 81000314?

if u got the error code above, try this:

Goto Start > Run and type "regsvr32 softpub.dll" without the quotes, then hit ok

Added on December 16, 2008, 3:46 pmanother solution is this:

Open with Notepad --> C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

Add these 2 lines to the bottom:

65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com
65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net

Make sure you remove it after 2 days time though as this is just a temporary solution.

Save it and restart msn, should work ok.

If still not working, edit C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts.msn.

Best solution is to try again later as probably tons of ppl logging in with the new version causing network congestion wink.gif

It works in all my computers in XP or Vista OSes. I'd to add WLM to my Norton IS '09, "allowed program list". Also must add to ZoneAlarm Firewall Pro, "trusted program list".

Installing/uninstalling Windows Live 2009 (Wave 3) Release Candidate applications

This site lists all Windows Live Suite 2009 “Wave 3” applications, a download link to the Microsoft Installer (MSI) file, what’s also necessary to install each application and a method to properly remove each without the Windows Live installer. This allows you to install on non-supported Windows versions (Windows XP x64), fix broken Windows Live Installer installs or just to avoid the Live Installer altogether.

Get them here!

It may be due to your Streamyx connection, cause I'm not having any problems like yours.

Heys, Mr. Dumb-fu*k. The messenger isn't stupid. And you know why I called you a dumb-fu*k, dumb-fu*k? Cause you said it's "msn msger" when it's WLM (Windows Live Messenger). doh.gif The file size is big because it's an offline installer and has all the Windows Live programs included. Now, don't be a dumb-fu*k and ask us what's the Windows Live programs, ask Uncle Google. icon_rolleyes.gif

too bad that this fella's 1st post = 0 meaning...

@coolmilo, read post #43 above if you want the 'smaller' portion. Use at your own risk, as usual.

oh BTW, this thread is about sharing utilities/apps and help out others ... use it if you like it, else leave it. WLM is from Microsoft, so maybe you can ask MS to make their new WLM smaller? {{guess not}}

oh BTW again, WLM is part of MS' strategy as part of Microsoft's Windows Live effort, which rebranded many existing MSN services and programs and is to be unified with the other Windows Live programs and Microsoft Office programs.

hint for you: Cloud computing

I have a problem with WLM 2009.

When I click on the mail icon, it directs me to msn.com, it doesn't automatically signs in to hotmail for me. (I think now it opens in your default browser instead in Internet Explorer now.)

Is there a way for it to automatically sign in to hotmail when I click the email icon in WLM2009?

A few confused Messers have notified me of the release of "the final version" of Windows Live Messenger 2009 as hinted by Steve Ballmer at CES, Las Vegas.

However, the build (14.0.8050.1202) that currently comes with the Windows Live Essentials installer is the same as the one from the beta refresh mid-December. Same features, same bugs, so there's no need to update.

Enable/Disable Aero Border Frame in Windows Live MSN Messenger

The ZIP package contains Disable-WLMessenger-Aero-Frame.reg and Enable-WLMessenger-Aero-Frame.reg files.

To disable the new Aero style WLM, double click on Disable-WLMessenger-Aero-Frame.reg to return to classic legacy Windows Live Messenger view with no Aero Frame.
To restore to Windows Aero layout with partially transparent border frame, double click on Enable-WLMessenger-Aero-Frame.reg instead.

Note: When system prompts a warning, click on Yes to continue.

Close and open Windows Live Messenger windows to see the new layout style.

Microsoft today started forcing users of the first public Windows Live Messenger 2009 Beta to upgrade to last month's Release Candidate (v14.0.8050.1202).

Plus! users will find that the add-on is incompatible with this build, but Patchou has let us know he's releasing a public beta of Messenger Plus! Live 4.80 tomorrow that will work with the RC!

The final version of Messenger Plus! Live 4.80 will be released in about two weeks and thanks to Patchou going through a few hoops, it will still support skins!

it's scattered all over the net. as long as it works and from MS, don't worry about it (except for its huge file size!) biggrin.gif

**UPDATE**

Thanks to GuyverTM, i've updated the 1st post with the latest direct links from MS.

If you have previously download the RC, don't bother download again because MS just elevated the RC -> Final only.

Size still the same fat installer. Version # still the same. Therefore bugs/problems still the same as RC rclxub.gif

Hi all I encounter problem during installation of the new Windows Live Messenger.

Below is the screen shot, how do I solve this problem?

I am using Windows Vista SP1 32-bit by the way. Appreciate any help.
*
Anybody has any idea on this? I closed all the programs but still the installer says got program conflicts.

Do I have to uninstall my current version of Windows Live Messenger?

Ok i just tried out the new messenger so here are what i think compared to the 8.5:

-the installer is DAMN BIG. why dont they just sparate it out from the other programs.

-When a chatbox is open, you cant see the recipients email address on the top like what we get on the 8.5

-The taskbar icon doesnt blink in orange when you receive a msg.

So far have been using one day. Lets see what more can find out about this thing.

Oh btw theres a msger live extension compatible for this windows messenger 9 for the guy who was asking this on the above

Hmm, for the taskbar doesn't blink in orange... it's actually a bug from messenger live plus.

Just disable tab chatting and it'll blink normally. smile.gif

Installing only using messenger.msi will give u an error. U need to install contacts.msi as well. if u do a search on the net, u will find WLM 2009 standalone installer consists of 4 setup files, i.e. messenger.msi, contacts.msi, crt.msi, dw20shared.msi.

Both the messenger and contacts setup files must be installed in able to run WLM2009. If errors still occur, just install the remaining 2 setup files. U can easily search for the standalone installer on the net.

i just update my messenger to the latest version. checked the "Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live\.cache" folder, 2 updates were done (based on the date modified), named "WLXSuite" and "Messenger".

i'm planning to upgrade the WLM on my sister's computer at my kampung that has slow dialup internet connection. the WLM installed in that computer is the previous version (the one with new UI that's only being updated about 2 months ago doh.gif ). cos i know that if the update is not done, she can't log in WLM.

so, i plan to copy the files to that computer for offline installation. do i need to install both "WLXSuite" and "Messenger"? or just "Messenger"?

hmm, my post earlier was not backed-up due to the lyn's crash yesterday ...

anyway, there are 2 projects in MSFN.org that lets you compile your own WLM installer ...

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=124818

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128918

2nd link is recommended as it has GUI to select which MSI to compile ...

Anyone experiencing difficulty to send out message in MSN? I'm using the latest WLM 2009 and recently I hardly able to send out message. It keep prompting me with "The following message could not be delivered to all recipients". It only happen to most but not all contacts in my list. And if someone send me message first, there's a high possibility that I could reply the message. However, if let the Windows chat idle for a few minutes, it could revert back to "The following message could not be delivered to all recipients".

Anyone know what's happening and possible remedies? I even uninstall and re-install my WLM 2009 sweat.gif

I'm currently installed the latest version (build 14.0.8089.726) and everything goes just fine. One thing that I encounter which is abnormal is I can't actually change my font. I can access to the option and select my desire font with no issue but it will end up with no change at all (maintain the original type). I hope anyone can help me out. Thank you.

Upgrade to Windows Live Messenger 14.0.8089.726, or be upgraded

QUOTE
The Windows Live Messenger team announced a phased upgrade to the quietly released 14.0.8089.726 build, which addresses vulnerabilities in Microsoft's Active Template Library (ATL) as cited in Microsoft Security Advisory 973882. The upgrade also comes with unspecified code fixes and feature enhancements.

Users of Windows Live Messenger 8.1, 8.5 and older 14.0 versions will be asked and later forced to install the update.

First Phase, Optional Upgrade:

1) Starting Aug. 25, customers using versions 8.1 or 8.5 were asked to upgrade their client.

2) Starting early Oct., all customers using versions 14.0 (but not the latest release 14.0.8089) will be asked to upgrade their client.

The upgrade at this time is optional. Customers who haven't upgraded during the optional phase will be required to do so during the second phase.

Second Phase, Mandatory Upgrade:

1) Starting mid-Sept., all customers using Messenger 8.1 or 8.5 will be required to upgrade their version of Windows Live Messenger.

2) Starting late Oct., all customers using Messenger 14.0 will be required to upgrade their version of Windows Live Messenger.

Thanks for the update. Why when the apps is installed , it doesn't prompt us to download the newer version ie version check tool?

For those who does not like Windows Live installer, I have uploaded the extracted Messenger installer. Tested to successfully upgrade my WLM. For new installation, you may need another 2 supporting components such as "Contacts" and "crt", which I can upload upon request.

Instruction: Download and extract the installer using your favourite archiver i.e. winrar, 7-zip. Run the extracted file.
