QUOTE(Balaclava @ Nov 10 2010, 05:52 PM) Hey guys, just want to drop a quick question: what do you call the scarf you wear inside of a shirt instead of a tie? Ascot or cravat depending on which type you are referring to. Make sure you look for self-tied ones. Ebay is a great place to start hunting - I managed to get a few vintage silk and cotton ascots for around RM50 each. This post has been edited by Fusion[eX]: Nov 10 2010, 06:23 PM

What happened to Jim Thompson at Starhill? I was looking for them just now but couldn't locate them.

I'd prefer getting one locally. Importing would be my last resort.
I don't remember ever seeing one anywhere though.

So I'm in need of a pair of black dress shoes, but have absolutely no idea what to get. I'm a university student, hoping to be able to get some job interviews in the near future. Need a rough idea of what sort of style/brand. Budget is 100USD. Although hopefully I can skimp even more and get it <60USD

QUOTE(Cheenoo @ Dec 12 2010, 11:48 AM) Canada. Thinking of getting it during the boxing day sales. Though if it's worth it I will be able to get from online US retailers as well.

QUOTE(Cheenoo @ Dec 12 2010, 12:27 PM) Can't go wrong with something like this: But why not consider getting one in brown? Are those called oxfords? I'm pretty confused when it comes down to the classifications. I've got a pair of brown ones, but I only have a black suit, so yeah BTW, can they touch water at all? I noticed that my brown one discolours upon contact with water.

Yes, those are cap-toe oxfords. And you definitely need a black pair for interviews.
You really can't skimp on this. $100 will not get you a good first pair.
Try asking in the "Shoes for (real) men" thread.

I knew my budget would be terrible over there. But that really is what I am able to allocate

Even half decent ones (Loake, Cheaney, etc) will set you back around RM700.
Go to the outlets (like Allen Edmonds), get measured up (try them on), then try to look for bargains on ebay. Don't worry about slightly beat up shoes. They look better anyway. Just give it a good spit shine and it'll work for the moment.
