 recover from windows.old

Hi, how to recover from windows.old? can full recover like said xp? all the programs and documents. 2. can i copy to a new hard disk and recover from there? 3. how to uninstall vista and recover the xp information back (i dont have the xp backup, only the windows.old)? thanks

It's quite hard to recover your old files once you've reformatted and reinstalled a fresh OS. If I may recommend, you may try asking DATA recovery experts but it'll cost a bomb. doh.gif

Windows.old folder only contain Windows files. It doesn't contain any programs files and settings.

You can still reinstall those programs. Windows.old folder may only contain registration information for some of those programs as not all programs stores settings in Registry. You won't be able to get any documents from that folder as Windows.old folder only backup <YOUR_WINDOWS_ROOT_DIR>\Windows\ (eg: C:\Windows\). Some programs may or may not work depending on their configuration. If you accidently formatted your disk, you can still recover files from your partition, but if you just upgraded from (let say) XP to Vista, the file is overwritten already. Data recovery will be useless. Data recovery are expensive, RM30 isn't enough.

Adroit Data Recovery Center - Depends on your hdd config and condition. Read here
