The automatic configuration for connection setup doesn't work really well isn't it?
When selected "Maxis 3G", it will do the necessary connection settings. But still, it isn't connected to "Maxis 3G" but ordinary "My Maxis".
Was prompted the "New connection setup database found", and i downloaded it through wifi.
After that, when sending an MMS, it failed to dial through edge. Connection setup settings were all mapped to Maxis.
Requested a manual setup for MMS through Maxis web portal, a message shown something like "Connection setup configured by <Maxis>".
Tried to resend another MMS, worked well but was connected through Edge.
Checked Connection Settings and it seems that "Application that connects to the Internet connects through" has changed from "Maxis 3G Internet" to "Maxis MMS".
Manually changed it back to "Maxis 3G Internet" and tried to send another MMS.
Again, it worked well but was connected through Edge.

What is all these anyway? The settings are same, but requires a manual setting through the Maxis Web Portal before an MMS could be sent? What is the logic behind it?

How to get connected to "Maxis 3G"?
And, do I need to manually configure each settings by selecting each and every settings available through the web portal one by one? (i.e Internet, 3G Internet, MMS, etc)

Don't understand how it works and is confused on how to setup these connections.

Help from anyone please? Thanks.

sweetcow, before u send MMS, do you see "H" or "3G" icon at your taskbar? During sending MMS, what animated icon do you see on the taskbar?

I have no problem using Maxis 3G settings and need not to manually set anything since the first time I set it. What I experienced is, at area where 3G is weak, the phone will revert back to GSM mode, "G" or "E" icon shown, and all MMS will send via GPRS / EDGE mode.

Can you try again at area that has very strong 3G or "H" ?

Thanks for your reply.

Everytime the device restarts, it will first connect to 3G for few seconds, and then revert to "E". The problem is no matter where i go, i will still never get "3G" even though people around me has "3G" all the time. I guess its the settings problem at my side. I'm using Hotlink by the way. Maybe that's why i need to manually get those settings?

Now, after i get MMS settings from Maxis website, as long as i "touch" anything related to internet, i will be connected to Edge. Now i have a problem to disable it. Eventhough i deleted all the settings in "Connection Setup" (i.e "Maxis 3G Internet", "Maxis MMS", etc), i will still be automatically connected to Edge. How can i disable it?

Er... there's nothing to show isn't it? Its the same old default today screen and main concern is only the icon on the status bar, namely "E" or "3G".

Let me explain again.
Upon boot, the icon will change to "3G" for few seconds (maybe 2 or 3?) and then disconnected.
After that, it will change back to "E".

So, i wanted to connect to Maxis 3G (icon to show "3G"). When u first put in ur SIM, the device will prompt you for auto configuration, and i selected "Maxis 3G", it then says that it will configure the phone automatically, i selected "Yes". Unfortunately, the auto configuration doesn't seem to work. Maybe i'm on Hotlink that's why?

This is what i did:
1. Checked my phone's Connection Settings (It contains MyISP, MyWork, Maxis 3G Internet, Maxis MMS, Maxis 3G WAP)
2. Tried to send an MMS but failed (It says "Could not dial the number to connect" or something like that)
3. Go to Hotlink's website
4. As the HD was configured automatically, the website shows i'm using "BLAC100" (logically, it is also the Touch HD, but it says it doesn't have the settings for BLAC100)
5. So i manually get phone settings for Touch HD (I selected "MMS Settings")
6. Received an SMS stating that my phone was configured
7. Tried to send an MMS, and it went through successfully using Edge
8. Now all internet related application will automatically connect to Edge, i do not want that to happen
9. Deleted all Maxis related settings in Connection Settings (which means i'm left with MyISP and MyWork, the default settings)
10. Sent another MMS, successful and again using Edge
11. Updated weather information, successful and again using Edge

Why is this happening? I deleted all the settings and it still connects to Edge for data connections??? How do i disable/undo the settings?
And how do i get connected to Maxis 3G, which was my main motive at first?

@sweetcow, ah, now i understand what u mean. wish everyone would give clear information like what u did lol.

okay now, go to start > settings > connections > connection set up

See if your operator is NOW under Maxis3G or plain Maxis

Make sure its Maxis 3G. If u changed, wait for the device to configure then it will prompt for soft reset. If its already on Maxis 3G, just to be sure, change it to Maxis. Soft reset. Then change back again to Maxis 3G. just to make sure.
Did this, doesn't seem to make any difference. The settings just changed from Maxis3G -> Maxis -> Maxis3G sweat.gif

After that, download Advanced Config, under "Data Connections" make sure everything is enabled
Don't have Advanced Config, but i wanna disable Edge, not enable it. sweat.gif
I just want to be connected to 3G so that i can make video calls, don't want any accidental connection to the internet.

QUOTE(Baronic @ Mar 2 2009, 10:41 AM)
finally go to start > settings > Personal Tab > Phone, Band tab. Make sure everything is auto.

That should be enough to make sure everything on your part is settled.
All bands are already auto by default. Checked that already to make sure. Yeap, all auto icon_rolleyes.gif

Now, once everything is done, call up Maxis, (123 i believe) and go straight to customer support. Ask them if your number is 3G activated. If its not, tell them to activate. (even if u recall is activated do it again, sometimes they screw up and deactivate it, dun ask me how) This should resolve any issue from their side. Also make sure your sim card is a 3G simcard.
Hmm.. mine is Hotlink, so no 3G SIM card, all Hotlink SIMs are 3G ready. I think that's why i have to manually get the settings from the website to enable it?

QUOTE(Baronic @ Mar 2 2009, 10:41 AM)
Once all the steps are done, your phone should be able to accept 3G services. If it cant, it probably means at that area the connection for 3G isnt stable and hence it decided to access Edge. Try going into KL or Sunway area lol, should change to H or 3G

My area now should have 3G as people around me are all connected to Maxis 3G! doh.gif

I noticed that sometimes when i turn on the screen, the phone beeps and displays that there is a new SMS. The problem is that the SMS received time is not the current time (i.e more than 30 minutes or even few hours ago).

It seems that it does not always ring when a new message arrives. If i'm not mistaken, this does not happen on all newly received messages.

Maybe it will only ring when i press the power button to switch off the screen, but will not ring when it is left alone to standby by itself? Just a wild guess.

Anyone encountered this problem?

Hi there,

Try HD Tweak there is an option to "WakeUpOnSMS" or something like that, set it to "enabled" (it's disabled by default).

Cheers!! biggrin.gif
Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, i do not want the device to wake up on newly received sms. Instead, i just want it to ring as soon as it arrives on the device, not only when i turn on the screen (which happens sometimes due to unknown reasons).

Any ideas how to fix this? icon_question.gif

Just want to ask all, are you settled with the BIG flip clock comes with TF3D?? I do not like it so installed Max Blue Theme which reduces the size of flip clock plus a analog clock.

However I wish to go *further* to eliminate the flip clock altogether, leave only the ANALOG CLOCK in the center (sort of like Android's appearance tongue.gif). Anyone has any idea how to get rid of Flip clock on cook roms??

Your help is very much appreciated. Thanks buddies!!!!!:D

I also thought of this before, but i wished that the TF3D has an option to change it, maybe the TF2D analog version? (Because i'm still using stock ROM and dont plan to flash it yet). But i know there isn't. It's good to know if there's any apps out there though.

Well, i'm still happy with the big flip clock at the moment. biggrin.gif

After taking pictures, or browsing pictures using the default album (HTC Album), what is the fastest/easiest way to transfer the picture to another handphone through bluetooth?

I have to go to the pictures folder using file explorer, select the file and beam the file from there. The problem is it only shows the filename, so it is hard to detect which picture it is and I have to open one by one to find the correct picture, which took very long and is very troublesome.

I also found out that it is easy to beam a file to multiple people. All the recipients showed up on the list and I only need to tap to send. But it seemed that if i selected multiple files using file explorer, the "beam" option is disabled. So how do I beam multiple files simultenously/let it queue?

Another funny thing is that after finishing the file transfer process, the same handphone name will appear again. It is a bit weird as I've already send the file to the other person, but it seems that it treats it as another person. Or maybe it is an option for you to resend to the same person? I'm just guessing, but it doesn't really matter anyway, as long as it gets the job done.

Thanks!

I do not check the phone very often. But i do check it sometimes. When i switch on the screen, the phone will ring indicating that there's a new SMS. The problem is that the message was an hour or more ago. If i do not switch on the screen, it will never ring, meaning that it wont alert as soon as the SMS is received? It just wont trigger the notification. But this does not happen all the time, only occasionally, say 3 out of 10 times? (rough figure) Sometimes i am notified promptly, sometimes only when i switch on the screen.

Do anybody experience this problem as well? What could have gone wrong?

@ Giovanni and Sweetcow,

Are you guys using cooked roms?

Nope. I'm using stocked ROM.

happened to me once or twice within a day or so.. make sure u clean ur ram, the phone will become sluggish if u have many programs running in the background.. if u try cleaning up ur ram often with 3rd party apps such as CleanRAM, then it will be fine.. i'm experiencing this prob only with WM6.5, non with WM6.1..
*
I usually terminate programs when they're not in use. I'm not sure about RAM cleaning and never tested on it. But i guess it isn't a RAM issue because the HD has a lot to spare.

I've also notice the "Today timed out" setting in Start > Settings > Today. It is set to 4 hours. I'm not sure what it does. Maybe it is due to this? Default is set to 4 hours, maybe after 4 hours of inactivity, it goes into some sort of state that doesn't alert for new notifications, probably to preserve battery life? Just my wild guess.

QUOTE(maesus @ Apr 23 2009, 11:56 PM)
danlegion and sweetcow, for your SMS late notification problem, try this registry edit:

HK_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL
"DisableSMSWakeUpEvent"=dword:0
Or you may use HD Tweak to enable "Wake Up on New SMS".

*
QUOTE(termignoni @ Apr 24 2009, 12:25 AM)
that is a different prob bro.. that edit is for when your HD does not wake up (lights on) when an SMS comes in..

this prob is different, u have to switch the phone on from standby, then only the msg will come in or appear.. sometimes u need to open the messaging program, tap on inbox then only it will ring and the message appear..
*
Yeah, i think that registry is to turn on the screen when a new SMS comes in. That is not exactly what i wanted though. I prefer the screen to remain off upon new notification. If possible, don't want it to even turn on to notify it's battery is running low. Switching on the screen consumes more battery isn't it? Why does it automatically turn on the screen when the battery is already running low? rclxub.gif The LED indicator is already a notification, maybe just another beep to alert.

QUOTE(maesus @ Apr 24 2009, 12:15 PM)
strange, that WakeUpSMS trick actually works for me. As I understand about the phone operation, disable this WakeUpSMS will cause the phone to NOT notify you about SMS arrival when your phone is in SUSPEND mode.

*
If it works for you, i think the screen is turned on too right? I wouldn't want that if possible. That is why i didn't apply the changes.

QUOTE(termignoni @ Apr 24 2009, 06:05 PM)
my guess is that it's ROM related also.. smile.gif

I probably agree with you. Maybe HTC could provide a hotfix for it?
I wonder whether HTC ever knew this issue.
